5 subs

I meant to mention that.
One of the worst bit of time wasting I've ever seen.
It took the guy at least 40 seconds to hobble about 20 yards. Then when the game was re-started he was on like a shot.
What is wrong with these useless Referees allowing that?

Its not just the time wasting, it breaks up play, disrupts the side applying pressure to score.

Why don’t we make it like American football and change the whole team according to circumstances? That would make it into a 3 hour game.

Awful decision.
Just another excuse for more time wasting and halting play for the winning team, after 85 mins, which will bore the pants off supporters.
Taking the ball to the corner flag is frustrating enough, but this will be even worse.

Our manager hasnt got the hang of subs yet and hopefully Colin Calderwood can wise him up a bit. Our substitution policy this year has been too little too late and often the wrong option. Its a benefit to us given our strength in depth BUT only if we use them properly.

This I something I've thought a lot about over the years, mainly for the timewasting reasons you've all detailed above.

I don't see why the game has to stop at all. Give the fourth official something to do other than holding a board up and getting grief from managers.

Play can continue, fluid subs but one at a time. Declare an area, say, 10 yards wide in front of your own technical area, the outgoing and incoming player both have to go through that point. The fourth official controls it and informs the ref, who really should see it happening anyway. The manager will have to decide when it's safe to make the sub, in case it leaves them shorthanded somewhere, but at least you'd see players actually getting off the pitch quicker.

It would prevent the rousing moment where someone who's had a good game gets the obligatory standing ovation (should we ever get to give one again!), but we can do that as they walk to the bench anyway.

Obviously wouldn't include subs for injuries where the player has to be helped off etc. Play does need to stop for those. But just for tactical changes, can't see the problem.

The only problem with this suggestion is the in case of injury bit. Certain managers would instruct players, at a given signal, to drop as though they have been poleaxed. This would negate the continuance of play rule and the game would be interrupted once again. Call me cynical if you like, but after watching just about every time wasting tactic known to man in over 70 years of watching football I know it will happen.

This massively benefits us with a large squad and plenty of strength in depth. Particularly so if we’re going to play a high press. Will also help in giving the youngsters the opportunity to develop and allow Critchley to build a squad in this image. Not a fan of it normally but Blackpool are one of the clubs who could really and greatly benefit from this.
Switching front 3 around and freshening up the midfield after 60 minutes let’s us go for the jugular. Most teams in this league don’t have that luxury

The point of being able to allow more players to be taken off to give them a rest because of the absolutely ridiculous schedules they're being asked to play appears to have been missed by some on here.
The increased amount of injuries top flight players are having because of the shortened season will no doubt begin to work its way down through the leagues, especially when very few lower division teams will have access to the kind of facilities big clubs have.

Until we get back to some sort of normality, allowing 5 subs really isn't that big a deal.

The officials are supposed to add on 30 seconds for each substitution?
With teams playing so many matches it seems sensible to prevent burnout, especailly during a pandemic

It's not like the EFL to grasp one of the more important nettles. Oh....

I don't like it, but I accept that it could help teams cope with the fixture congestion this season. As long as it doesn't become a permanent rule, fair enough.

Great news as above, our strength in depth (all praise Critch) will really come to the fore. A lot of teams in this league with decent first 11s but not much beyond.

We have 8 weeks coming up of 2 games a week. It wiĺl help prevent injuries through tiredness by rotating players.
