50 years since we were European Champions

Nice one. Some great British sides have been able to say the same.
Celtic, Leeds, Liverpool, Aston Villa, Notts Forest and Chelsea.

Think that's it.

I think we are stretching it to call it a "European" trophy based on the fact it was between English and Italian sides.

Bit of "World Series" logic going on there. And if anyone says "It was played in Europe" or it was "between European teams" so is the FA Cup.

Aye but a certain club down the M55 reckon they were League Champions at one point, when there were only a handful of games with jumpers for goalposts and gravel for a pitch.

They started it 😁

I think I remember it being on the TV till full time - they didn't show the extra time because Dr Who came on, fuzzy memory not sure if it's true.
I do remember going to Talbot Square to see them with the trophy - it was packed 👍

In all the years I have followed the “Mighty” this is the one game I really would have loved to have gone too.
Remember watching on the TV and then as they say the extra time was not going to be shown( till this day I don’t know whether it was) but my Dad asked me to take the car and fill it up at the local petrol station...still can’t believe he let me drive the car😉

Can we call winning the FA Cup a European Trophy too? Its played with English & some Welsh teams

😛😛🤪

The stat I like best is how only 3 English clubs have had the current ballon do'r winner playing for them, United, Liverpool and us.

A fact that seems so obvious but never registered until reading it then.

We are the only Lancashire club to win a European trophy. Brilliant that!
Unfortunately not correct. Manchester United won the European Cup for instance in 1968. Manchester was still in Lancashire (*) back then before the ridiculous boundary changes in 1974 following the Local Government Act of 1972.

(*) and still is for those who support Real Lancashire, along with the likes of Southport, Liverpool, Barrow, Coniston etc etc)

I did think that might be a technicality due to traditional counties, Manchester and Liverpool at one time being part of Lancashire

I'm willing to ignore the facts if you are though 😉

And Lancashire play cricket in Manchester, they really should move.

Great goal from Mickey Burns and one I saw him score many times. You just knew when he cut in and skipped past a couple of players, the ball was going to end in the net, every time.

One of my favourite Pool players. I recall him scoring 2 just like that against Luton at Bloomers. And that header v. Arsenal 😁.
