A likeable guy ?

From the Oliver Eagleton book called The Starmer Project.

Not a fan of Starmer personally.

That's funny, I thought he was an MP and leader of the Opposition. Thought you had to be elected to both those positions but I'll bow to your superior intellect.
Rubbish attempt at sarcasm.

Starting to give up with you lot to be honest, theres just no debate anymore, Recidivist will be along shortly to try and piss me off. Getting bored with it 66
Just no debate? You said Starmer was completely unelectable. I asked why and you didn't answer. That's why there's no debate.

Clearly picked the bits out of my post you wanted to and ignored the rest, your getting as bad as Mex. I rest my case.

What?! Your post said, "and completely unelectable." That was it. There was nothing to miss out. I then asked why. And that was it. I've scoured this thread and there's nothing else.

Again, you have totally ignored my second to last post. I answered yours. Mex in disguise.

Based on what analysis?
Based on what analysis?
You can’t always quantify an opinion so I guess his ‘smarminess’ is just based on my personal analysis of his annoying demeanour.
The non-event evaluation is based on interviews I’ve seen and watching his weary exchanges on PMQ. Even Angela often looks bored witless…
You might argue that he has a measured approach but I would say that he’s passionless and doesn’t appear to have any conviction…

Whereas Theresa May and Boris Johnson were shining examples of who we need in charge.
Saint Theresa?

She had more morals in her little finger than Lying Bastard could even dream of, but wasn't right wing enough for the Nasty (Nazi?) Party.

Where did anyone mention those two ? We’re talking about keith the total wet wipe. Why can’t Labour supporters admit he’s useless. I’ve been critical of lots of MPs from both sides, including May and BJ

So if May and Johnson are as bad as Starmer, then he clearly is electable.

OK that's reasonable. I Don't agree but at least I now know where you're at.

I ain't a big fan of Keith but I think his 'dispassionate' approach is a deliberate attempt to distance himself from the conviction politician style of his predecessor. Labour are a bit damned if they do and damned if they don't. If they have a tub thumping passionate type, then they are 'loony' and if they have a technocratic approach then they're 'boring'

I find him a bit wooden, a bit stilted but to be fair to all politicians, appearing to be all things to all people is just about impossible and I think what Starmer has done is to attempt to position himself as 'sensible and boring' in contrast to the chaos of Johnson (like or loathe, Johnson is chaotic) which isn't a bad tactic as generally, after a period of chaos and charisma, an electorate craves a safe and serious type.

I think his big problem with be if Sunak wins as that's exactly how Sunak is pitching himself.

Hmm, maybe you’re right but I do firmly believe that the way he presents himself actually isn’t contrived and that he’s just innately incredibly boring! Perhaps I’m being unfair but I just find him very irritating..

Possibly. I listened to him on a football podcast and whilst he's definitely an actual football fan, he was very boring.

To be fair, why shouldn't a boring person be a prime minister? The notion that we need some kind of inspirational figure is a bit weird. I don't really get why we all need a pep talk every week from some fella who we'll never meet. I could give a cracking pep talk I reckon, but I'd be shite at balancing the economy and all that stuff.

Agreed
John Major was perhaps the most underrated PM we have had in modern times
He delivered a budget surplus and got us into a great financial position after a few hiccups (like the EERM fiasco)
he was undone by a tidal wave of sleaze emanating from the Conservative back benches and because he appeared to have no big ideas. Sometimes it is better to just fix what we have rather than start a new initiative every few months. I suppose he did under invest in public services, remember the very high hospital waiting lists, and he could have spent more given the situation.

His eyesight was so bad he hooked up with Edwina no doubt thinking he had pulled a stunner and did a bit of sleazing with her in No.10.😜🤣

After WW2 the British people dispensed with the charismatic Churchill in favour of the uncharismatic Attlee. If television had been invented some 80 years earlier Lincoln may never have been made President. A shiny cover does not a brilliant book make.

Just googled it and he ‘supports’ the Gunners,’ so that’s done it for me….I just couldn’t endorse a boring Arsenal fan I’m afraid …you put up a good argument though without a hard sell!

Because people are idiots who will vote for the shiny one promising shiny things.

Seems that Boris isn't the only "liar": https://order-order.com/2022/07/26/listen-starmer-admits-hes-scrapped-his-ten-leadership-pledges/

Sir Keir has finally admitted his 10 leadership pledges, signed on the dotted line just two years ago, have bitten the dust.

Appearing on the Today Programme just now with Nick Robinson, Starmer claimed – before losing signal halfway through his answer – that changing circumstances meant his solemn promise to reheat Corbynism is off the cards.

The phrase "sauce for the goose............" comes to mind.
