Albanians seeking asylum

Given Priti Patel, was rightly saying we need to improve the entire immigration system in this country (and have needed to do it for at least 20 years) they posted loads of information on various websites today.

Anyway, Albania is in the top 3 countries people seeking asylum in the UK originate from.

What's going on there to make so many people seek sanctuary here? Anybody know, because I've not seen anything about it.

As soon as I’d discovered an Albanian trying to enter the UK illegally you’d process the case to remove them, fairly straight forward, when it got close to them being removed they’d claim asylum to delay the removal.

On more than one occasion I was told there was no detention space and we were ordered to bail them to return for their removal in a few days or for theor asylum case to be heard. Can you believe it, they never turned up for their flights home or their hearings.

So stupid you couldn’t make it up.

As big hands says, coming here to participate in serious organised crime.

You’d be surprised.

Modern day slavery plays a big part as well, plenty of road side car washes and alike are loaded with Albanians “paying off “their tickets to the UK.

With stuff like this I tended to stop believing the official figures and trusted what my own eyes were telling me, I think the true figure for stuff like this would shock a lot of people.

And what have the UK Government done for half of those 20 years and yes, ask yourself why these people leave countries like Albania - well the collapse of Communism is one reason in the 90’s - only 3 mill live there and 10 million live away from there and just over 13,000 (half the population of Fleetwood) live in the UK

so we’re clearly in danger of being taken over

Good point about why are they shouting about it now.

This Government have had 11 years to secure the borders and have done nothing but cut staff in the name of austerity.

Now they're bleating. Trying to blame immigrants for everything. Been here before and it doesn't end well.
 
When I worked on immigration (the stats were laughable) the new (Tory) Minister wanted to do ‘a weekend statement’ about the No of Ethiopians coming in —we had to advise him ‘not a good idea’ as an x Ethiopean, whose uncle (opposition leader) was murdered by their country’s leader was about to win the World Championship Gold for guess who ?

we didn’t say anything about Ethiopean refugees that weekend but that man did win his Gold for GB ! his namesake plays C F for Liverpool

There are 10 times as many Irish and Scots in America than in the homeland of course. Immigration literally works both ways

As for the British on the Costas...
 
There’s absolutely no way only 13,000 Albanians live in the UK.

Like I said, I gave up believe the official statistics on this stuff years ago.

No government have done anything about people fleeing persecution for 20 years.

The reason I asked the question. I can see why people would leave Iran, Iraq and Afghanistan etc. I hadn't seen or heard anything about Albania. Are you suggesting they are using the asylum process for economic migration reasons?

And why the stupid comments about being taken over? I never suggested we were/are being taken over. I know that our population has increased far more quickly since 2000 than the previous 50 years, but I haven't commented on the relative merits of that.

Yet they were encouraged under the Bliar 'stewardship', as he was advised by people of the ilk of 'Mandy' they will be good Labour voters.

Let's cut through the crap. My local Albanian friends tell me it's virtually all economic migration. I have to say the ones I know work bloody hard and are really decent people.
 
A lot of Albanians entered during Yugoslavian break up civil war saying they were fleeing the war and were ethnic Albanians in fact they were from Albanian not Bosnia

Never been to Albania but I visited Romania in late 80's and genuinely thought it was the fkn pits - totalitarian , corrupt on another scale ,really shite food and the people so miserable- was told Albania was significantly worse
Genuinely cant imagine that ,I'm sure some of you have visited more rotten places but would like to know
