All Electric Vehicles.

It's only banning the sale of new petrol and diesel cars from 2035. So we'll club together to buy you Corsa Les's old banger.

I hope that electric engine technology evolves quickly over the next 15 years then, because I personally don't think the current electric car is good enough for long journeys. The infrastructure of charging points also needs to be improved big time, lots more space needed at motorway services and in urban car parks.

AS above.
We have elderly and ill relatives, 530 miles away. There is no electric car that can get even lose to us getting down in one journey when we have the need. Not sure about motors, but battery technology is not even close yet. In 10 years, it's a big technological leap. I see no mention of buses and lorries, which produce a huge amount of our transport carbon use. The other item is source of electricity, renewable energy needs huge investment to produce all our needs, otherwise it is simply swapping one carbon source for another

I know people with hybrids who can't get from Manchester to Leeds purely by battery. Technology is miles away at present.

There are at present 32.5 million cars in the UK, assuming half are used during the course of one day that would need a huge amount of electricity for charging the batteries probably at the same time of the day that many would be preparing food, and turning on the lights, TV's an computers.
I am not altogether sure how in some roads where the terraced houses meet the pavement where charging points can be installed, and when the bins are out it is a problem passing them as it is.

Does that include trucks, vans and commercial? Can’t see Eddie Stobart running a 3.5t truck on battery power alone 🤯🚛

Anyone knows how long it takes to charge an electric car, the reason im asking is the station where I usually fill up at has multiple charging spaces and when I pull in I see these cars plugged in, I fill my tank and leave and all the electric cars are still charging.

Looks inconvenient if your in a hurry with the current (pun intended) technology.

Not sure but a taxi driver told me he has to go off the road and charge for 40 minutes at a time he says its an inconvenience when they’re busy and have to come off the road to charge their car

You cant beat a diesel guzzling plumbers van with tools and old bacon butty wrappings on the dashboard 😃

That depends on what type of charging point you're at. A standard 240 volt mains port is a 10 hour charge, a fast charging port, which is what premier cabs use, fully charges a battery in about 15-30 minutes. The downside with using a fast charging port? Battery is fried after 3 years. Standard charging gives a max life expectancy of approx. 10 years. Cost of a battery? Probably more than what the car will be worth, think it's about £3,000 for a new one.

My thinking is that it will cause huge problems. people will not get anything for a non-electric vehicle in part exchange. How are they going to finance buying another car etc? Will the Government buy their old car off them? No chance.
