And this is why they take the knee and rightly so

So, social media was awash with racist comments aimed at Rashford, Sancho & Saka following the defeat last night from some of our wonderful fellow countryman. For me that is far worse than the defeat and makes me feel sick, angry and sad.

What is wrong with these people? What makes them think like this? What sort of people are they? And why are there so many of them?

So for those of you who say it should stop and it is a political statement and only belongs in he USA then you need to have a good hard think about that mindset because it's your opinion, but it doesn't make you right. We are always going to have racism and prejudice in society, here and abroad, but it is something we need to eradicate as much as we can.

You have to feel for those young lads, they were in so much pain last night and then they get that shit.

Well taking the knee clearly isn’t working is it. What will work is finding these mindless idiots and throwing the book at them, make an example so that others will think twice. Then of course it’s education, I’m sure kids a primary school won’t grow up racist, they’re mixing with more and more kids from other backgrounds.

Absolute bell-ends. Same muppets would have been cheering on Sterling in previous games and hailing Phillips tackling snd work rate.
However FA have been part of the kick it out campaign for years now, and today we see BLM and taking the knee. Neither will have an impact on the cocks abusing the players. This is a deep learned mechanism.

Is it a generational thing? Will it just die out over time as the country continues to marry across communities and have children accordingly? As children grow up with friends at school from all spectrums and skin tones it seems more likely that that will make an impact rather than these campaigns.

Sadly it will never be eradicated.
In my view each individual should be dealt with severely but it is very difficult to hunt them all down.

It is not just a white minority who are racist either.
Racism comes from all parts of society.
Only last week I was talking to a white man in Yorkshire who is abused racially, on a daily basis in Morley, by young men of Asian descent.
None of it is right.

We crossed over there mates. That’s my feelings too

I think what needs to be done in this instance is finding the perpetrators, addressing this issue and coming down hard on them.
Hate crimes carry lengthy judicial sentences now. We need to make these sentences very hefty as a deterrent.
I would take the knee, but it isn’t a deterrent and it hasn’t helped these young lads at all.

It is a symbol though and I think an important one. I agree that racism is ingrained and has been across the world since time began. It isn't just white British, of course it isn't it happens everywhere but we need to do all we can to stop it. I was never saying taking the knee would stop it, but it is a few seconds before a game that keeps the awareness going and that has to be a good thing.

Taking the knee was always an attempt to highlight the abuse some players receive, a show of solidarity from their team mates, to boo it and then try to attach some third rate excuse to your actions was always ** stupid and the people who boo or complain about the gesture are ** idiots.

I just don't understand why they don't link an ID with a social media account. Not difficult.
Exactly this above…it’s okay the govt coming out and telling us how appalling it is…why not just make opening a social media account the same as say an online betting account?…

Complete Bellends. Didn't even cross my mind to think what skin colour any player was. They were just our England boys. Just feel for all of them especially the guys who missed. So much pressure.

I haven’t read any of it as this is the only social media I do. But spoken to my daughter and apparently it’s horrible.
We need to make a complete example of these nasty racist ***** .
Find them, and punish them so harshly ASAP.

Every League Club in the country should introduce a permanent pre-match taking the knee to combat this sort of bullshit.

Do you really think Boris is responsible for these morons? Get real, he was talking about the right to express yourself, and yes, he should have qualified it by saying he abhors racism and supports taking the knee, but to blame him is frankly ridiculous.

There will always be disgusting, social inadequates in society. Social media gives them a platform they previously lacked. On this occasion Facebook took down these comments from their site and closed several accounts. However, as a society we need to reject the populist myths that sow division. We need to become more comfortable and accepting of each other: men of women, people of different races of each other, ethnic and religious divisions must be rejected. Neville is right. It is not just about those at the top of Government but they do have a big role to play in setting the national tone and in providing sensible leadership. Dismissing so-called wokeness is a pitiful misuse of their position. As for our citizens, we have a role to play in rejecting populist language and the vulgarity of intolerance. Social media is the most accessible battleground where this will play out and we should be up for the challenge.

The more I think about this the more I think it’s some sort of organised racist disruption campaign by a complete set of arses…they may not even be football fans or from this country.

He's the Prime Minister, it comes with the job, or it used to, before half arsed chancers took over. He also took no action against his Home Secretary who described the player's actions as 'gesture politics', that coming from a cabinet completely comprising of nothing but gesture politics.

The buck stops anywhere but here.

He and others in the government condoned the booing of a stance against racism.
Johnson doesn't abhor racism, in fact he has written several racist things himself in the past. This man is our PM.
It starts at the top.

I make the OP and Lytham FY8 spot on. We have a deeply embedded problem in this country and absolutely no leadership on the issue from the people who should provide it. But if you have a society that contains a poorly educated, feckless and self-entitled underclass, it is hardly surprising.

But the problem actually goes wider than that. You only have to look at this forum to see it. Every time the issue of race comes up you get the same people making the same badly-hidden apologies and justifications for it - you can almost set your watch by some of them. If there is one thing that really disappoints me about the moderation on this forum - which is generally very well judged - it is that the people concerned seem to largely get away with it. We all know who they are, they are pretty vile in their views and I think we don't do enough to call them out on it. Perhaps the mods would do more if we did.

I couldn't believe some of the comments on twitter last night. An absolute disgrace. I can honestly say that the colour of the players who missed the penalties had not crossed my mind until I read the tweets. I don't even understand that kind of mentality. Totally agree that today's young people will not grow up with that mindset. Kids are far better integrated these days. I also agree that taking the knee is a dead duck and needs to be left behind.

He didn't support taking the knee. That's the point.

There are plenty of people who are bigoted; sadly they now have a platform which allows it to be amplified. Twitter is a toxic sewer at the best of times.

Because traditional media rely on a clickbait funding model, they trawl it to get more hits on their own pages, thereby amplifying the perceived problem and impact.

The vast majority of people aren't like it and aren't on it. Today they are disappointed that 3 England lads didn't score their penalties.

It's an easy way for state actors to get people at each others throats that for sure.

Just a thought, Beckham had effigies of him being hanged and death threats in 1998 for getting sent off v Argentina - and that was in the days before social media.

Perhaps, we have a group of inadequates who don't like losing and will take it far too far?

You may be right.
Or maybe we see that as a possibility because the overall majority of us cannot conceivably understand racism at all.

That was West Ham fans though, we're talking about actual humans.

I think you could be partly right.
But most wouldn’t bring race into it unless they’re racists in the first place.
It’s possibly just another excuse for these morons to express their vile opinions.

Same goes for so called fans who trash things after a bad result. Giving football a bad name. There are too many morons.

Good comment, but I hate to think what detrimental effect the constant white guilt pushers will have on those kids.

I've just read some of the comments, seems like a lot of these people have had their accounts hacked because they would never write something like that.
Well they would say that wouldn't they!!
Out of interest has anybody on here ever had their twitter account hacked by somebody posting racist messages or indeed just any sort of message!
Just sounds like an unlikely thing to happen, whereas being pissed and typing stuff you regret sounds highly likely!

These are moronic bellends. We know this. Every country has them, and we certainly do.

However, they are in a massive minority and the reports confirmed that 167 were classed as a serious risk of racist intent.

Racism is not tolerated generally in the UK by the majority of people. It doesn't happen at football grounds anymore without being deal with, and it doesn't on the street.

These morons are cowards, spouting their bile behind usernames. Root them out, prosecute them and bang them up. Simple.

I tried to make that point in the "Taking The Knee" thread, but there are obviously those who imply disagreement.
