Does anyone on here know why he will not be available for the Sunderland game. This transfer has been arranged for weeks so has someone cocked up.
Other teams who have made signings ahead of the January window will have their players available on 1st, including Millwall, who have also made a signing from Shamrock Rovers.

We signed him in September. Odd.

The Millwall player will not be available. The transfer window opens on 1st January but to play on 1st January the player's paperwork needs to be with EFL by noon the day before. As paperwork cannot be completed until window opens it will not be possible for Lyons to play on the 1st.* No cock up by anyone.

* Unless EFL show some flexibility

I know the transfer window opens on 1 January but Appy seemed to suggest the registrations couldn't be completed on that day presumably because it's a Bank Holiday and the EFL won't be working.

Appleton is unclear whether the former Bohemians player will be eligible for the New Year’s Day league clash against Sunderland with a debut against Nottingham Forest in the FA Cup six days later more likely.

While Lyons doesn’t formally become a Blackpool player until January, there is still doubt over whether he can be registered in time for the New Year’s Day clash against Sunderland.

Player paperwork needs to be with EFL by noon the day before - as the window is not open then this is not possible as paperwork can only be completed once transfer window opens . EFL red tape the issue.

It’s only 1 match. It’s the rest of the transfer window I’m more bothered about.

Surely you can fill the paperwork in now and have a date the registration starts from the 1st January. A bit like pre ordering something

Maybe someone could inform the EFL that there is something called email where you can send documents which can also be signed electronically.

I thought that but clearly someone needs to be in the EFL offices on NYD with the rubber stamp which won't happen because its a Sunday (and nobody tels the EFL what to do).

A player has to be registered by noon the day before the game ! The window doesn’t open until the 1st of Jan so the Andy Lyons deal can not be completed until then ! Oh , Insy they will be working on New Years Day !

I am being a bit mischievous but I fail to see why the paperwork can't have already been completed with a forward date on it.
But then again I could never understand how the EFL allowed Owen Oyston to pass the "owners or directors" test or asked Karl to mentor another Club chairman.

It doesn’t matter what you do with the paperwork, a player cannot be registered until the First of January.

Here is the relevant regulation and guidance. From the guidance it appears that even if our game was played on the the second he would not be able to play so as not to disadvantage those teams playing on the 1st. The EFL could always surprise us and agree that he could play by bending the rules a little.

'43.5 Where the opening date of the Winter Transfer Window (whether in accordance with Regulation 43.3, or following a determination of an alternative date in accordance with Regulation 43.4) could (having regard to the operation of Regulation 44.8) result in some Clubs being unable to register Players for the round of League Matches scheduled on or around that opening date, but others would, then The League shall be entitled to withhold confirmation of registration (for the purposes of Regulation 44.8.2) until the next following League Match.

Guidance

The purpose of this Regulation is to give The League an element of flexibility in its application. By way of example, in Season 2020/21 it was applied as follows:

  • the Winter Transfer Window in Season 2020/21 opened on 2 January 2021.
  • in the Championship division, Match round 23 was scheduled for 2 January 2021 and some fixtures were moved to 3/4 January 2021 to accommodate TV selections.
  • in order to ensure that all Clubs were treated equitably for Match round 23, the League withheld confirmation of registration for applications lodged on the morning of Saturday 2 January 2021, until after completion of match round 23, so Clubs selected for TV did not gain an advantage over the majority of Clubs who would play at 3pm on the Saturday.'

According to the O/P "Other teams who have made signings ahead of the January window will have their players available on 1st, including Millwall, who have also made a signing from Shamrock Rovers."
If this is correct what is different about our signing?

International. Presumably, both FA's work by the book with no flexibility.

I think 25 man squad is full, and that is including Lyons for Ward
So who leaves to make room for additions or are they benched for rest of season?
Recalling Apter as he does not count in the squad numbers, but it would be a massive step up from Scunny?

Or even better, the EPL not following up their requirement iaw their regulations that Scarecrow shall relinquish his involvement as a Board member due to being convicted and jailed for rape!

Why are our fans so quick to blame

It's not correct - the Millwall player is in the same situation as Andy Lyons.

I am just going off the BBC football transfer website. On there it says the Millwall signing will be completed on 1st January, whilst it says our signing of Lyons will be completed in January, which obviously may not be the1st!

Look at the BBC football transfers website. It says the Millwall signing and other signings will be completed on 1st January, whilst our signing of Lyons will only be completed in January, which coupled with what the manager has said, would lead you to believe his transfer will not be completed on 1st!

The last time I looked January 1st was in January. You are looking for things that are not there.

Any transfers completed on the first of January won’t be able to play until after the 2nd of January

Would we have thrown him in straight away anyway? Would it be less risky for him to play against Forest.
Thankfully at least it's another body in the squad!
