Andy Lyons

Given how vulnerable we are to crosses it should be the first task to stop them coming in. For me there have been too many times this season when we've just allowed it to happen, particularly the ones where the wide player draws the fullback then knocks it back to someone following up who clips it into the edge of the 6 yard box. I think this has had as much to do with our midfield setup as any failing at fullback though. Defensive shape is going to remain a major work in progress.
Would not be so much of a, problem if Eki and another tall cb and keeper were playing

One of the few bright spots this season has been this guy. We've signed a proper good 'un I think, a player with quality, a great attitude and has taken to Championship football like a duck to water. Looked equally comfortable on the left as he does on the right.
In fact, if him and Gabriel stay injury free, we won't have to worry too much about the full back positions next season.
Let’s see how long he stays with us then !

Gabriel is good going forward but defensively weak and Lyons is much better all round. Gabriel would be good as a wing back if we played that formation.

I’d have said the opposite tbh… I think Gabriel is stronger and more powerful in the tackle and has more recovery pace and I think he’s better positionally too …Andy Lyons was is great going forward and contributes to goals, but he seems weaker defensively.

Both are young enough to improve and both will be a cut above most of what L1 has to offer.

Just hope that if we go down, no other Championships clubs have noticed his potential and try to buy him - we need good players, not money.

it speaks volumes of his potential that we are expecting the kind of big things of him this season that would make him a POTY contender.

proper coaching and clear messaging will do him the world of good defensively and attack-wise there should be space galore for him to exploit at this level.

it's also comforting to know that he has an unofficial mentor in seamus coleman.

Excited for this season. Need a quality ball-playing midfield signing, this Aussie guy from Scotland sounds decent.
