One of the few bright spots this season has been this guy. We've signed a proper good 'un I think, a player with quality, a great attitude and has taken to Championship football like a duck to water. Looked equally comfortable on the left as he does on the right.
In fact, if him and Gabriel stay injury free, we won't have to worry too much about the full back positions next season.

Can he recommend any other irish players? Surely he should know?
And what about asking him who his most difficult opponent was?
Good point, there must be some. Seems like a good place to search for hidden gems considering we've had players like Wes as well (even though he came from Livingston).

Great signing and on a three and a half year deal too....seems almost wasted at full back with his attacking instincts and eye for a goal.
I see his team mate at Shamrock Danny Mandroiu who was recommended on here by one of our Irish avftt'ers signed for Lincoln and is doing well for them from all accounts...a free scoring midfielder ..just what we need.

Lyons has done well. The goals are a welcome bonus.
Some of us also recommended Phoenix Patterson before Fleetwood signed him.

He went to the same school as my old man, albeit about 70 years apart!

I watched quite a few Rovers games last season and he was fantastic. My Dub cousins, Rovers fans, say he was outstanding all season. He mainly played as a wing back rather than a full back. He only played for them that one season having signed from Bohemians. Rovers won the league easily last year, but have struggled like hell in the first few matches this season. I think we've definitely got a good one!

I think everyone inside football is aware of players in Ireland, both north and south. If you want to know who the good Irish players are look at the international squads, including the age group ones.

He looks like a great signing and he is the right age too. I wonder if we will receive any bids for him in the summer. He's settled really well into the Championship and has continued his scoring run. Promotion should be the aim next season and he is just the type of player that can help us to achieve that.

My glory hunter mate at the game yesterday and also Luton picked out Lyons and Yates.

Particularly Lyons who he felt had extra quality about him and looked assured with the ball at his feet.

Said those two were probably the only two Championship level players which for me is too harsh - a good many of the players in our squad are fine at this level just not now with their confidence destroyed and playing with fear.

I was thinking about the squad and who's going to be good in League 1 and completely forgot Lyons. Shame on me for that. He looks like he's going to be a real asset. As others have said, one positive from this season.

I thought we bought a cb for Development squad, but yes Ireland and Scotland are areas we need to concentrate on.
Dobbie will have loads of Scottish connections, and Lyons, and Lavery will attract other Irish interest.
Another reason I want Dobs to get the head coach job permanently and why I want Lavery to get another contract

I remember asking a Shamrock Rovers fan if he could step up to the Championship. His reply was succinct: "He will be good enough!" He said. A few others were equally as certain he would be a big success.

4 goals in 15 appearances from full back is a great return. He got 9 in 46 for Shamrock.

he's an outstanding talent. his eye for goal and intelligent forward play is a huge asset but he is a full-back first and foremost and there is plenty for him to work on defensively (not unlike many modern full-backs tbh). that said, he is clever, eager and willing to learn and improve, and has a terrific attitude from what i can gather. i'm a massive fan but also totally biased as he's from the same neck of the woods in county kildare as my old man.

I think if he'd been here all season he'd be my Player of the Season - very old head on young shoulders if you listen to him interviewed.

yep, think he's still a bit of work to do on the defensive side of his game as he allows way too many crosses to come into the box but overall he looks a great prospect who will only get better. Especially in L1 which won't be as tough.
He's not a defender in a Jordan Gabriel sort of way, and 100% not an out and out LB/defending LWB.

Given how vulnerable we are to crosses it should be the first task to stop them coming in. For me there have been too many times this season when we've just allowed it to happen, particularly the ones where the wide player draws the fullback then knocks it back to someone following up who clips it into the edge of the 6 yard box. I think this has had as much to do with our midfield setup as any failing at fullback though. Defensive shape is going to remain a major work in progress.

In a Team struggling to defend, he’s not looking like the answer tbh…. Needs to improve defensively next season as he’s struggled so far, to say the least.
He’s certainly not an out and out defender but I am sure he can improve , he’s only young .For his first season in the EFL at Championship level I would say he’s looking a very good prospect. He’s shown he can score at this level, and I expect him to excel in L1 .

He really isn't "far" better than Gabriel. He's just a different option.

Both are fantastic and the only area I'm not remotely worried about.
I'm at a loss to understand what Gabriel brings to the team? He cannot defend, hence he isn't a defender and as I said Lyons then is far better. He doesn't score, Lyons does so he's far better. He can't cross a ball, Lyons can so he's far better. His long throw ins aren't long in the slightest. We all want Jordan Gabriel to be as good as he thinks he is. 🤷

Too harsh. I think it was against Burnley away, he made a peach of a goal. Don't judge our players on this shit run in.
