As well as the achievements which are objectively the best and most consistent we've had in generations, there's also the context about where we were when he took over.
A squad with holes all over, a lack of quality, systems that didn't suit the personnel, a tendency for players to hide, a reliance on star players to "do something" and most damaging a fear factor about playing for England that created hostility between fans, media and the players.
Southgate essentially managed all these and created a positivity around England for all parties. He'll leave after this tournament (it makes sense whatever we do in it) but he'll be passing it to the next man in tremendous shape and he deserves credit for that.
It's something essentially no-one since Venables has been able to do, so it shouldn't be taken for granted.
