Antibody Test Result

Got a text today, negative for antibodies, two weeks after the test, I kind of guessed but thanks for getting back to me 🙄

Strangely disappointed though even though I've not been ill.

Anyone else had one?

Not me... but my step-mother, who works at the Vic. She is also a little disappointed hers was negative as she was ill with COVID like symptoms in January.

Daughter who works at Clifton tested positive for Antibodies but negative when tested for the virus a while ago, she suspected she may have had it although pretty mild.

I’ve not had a test and I don’t think I’ve had it but I’m torn between hoping I’ve had it and been asymptomatic and not having had it as it would be nice to know I’ve had it, got antibodies and therefore immune but there are so many questions going around regarding immunity and potential long-term effects even if you’ve recovered.

I'm just going to keep my head down, work from home, socially distance and avoid the pubs when they reopen.

I know someone like that. Doctor said she definitely had it and that the early tests were very unreliable. Problem was, because it came out negative, she was placed on a ‘normal’ ward in Vic next to a couple of old dears. It was only after she was sent home in a taxi & re-tested at Doctor’s it came out positive the 2nd time. So another trip to the Vic and this time in a Covid Ward.

Our family had some of the symptoms in January. Just put it down to a Winter flu at the time, but will definitely get that tested. It looks like the Chinese Gov were economical with the truth when it comes to the start of this pandemic. Talk of some UK positive tested cases going back to November.

Just had my test awaiting results.
Sorry if I sound like a simpleton, but I’m losing track of which test is which - is this the test that’s being debated at the moment?
Seen some top medical experts, over the past couple of days, questioning the value of one of the tests, pointing out that a positive test doesn’t guarantee immunity.

Due to my age, I wasn’t allowed to work for the last three months, but I started back this week. As I work in a bank I’m considered a key worker, but as I’ve not had symptoms, I can’t get a test. Had a cough for a few weeks in January, but apparently that doesn’t qualify you for a test.

I came back from skiing in mid March and developed a lot of the symptoms. I give blood and saw they were looking for donors for the COVID convalescent plasma trial. They were looking for people who had a previous positive test or who thought they may have had it. I volunteered, but at first they only took those with positive tests. I was asked in 5 weeks ago, and as part of the process of talking the plasma they do the test to see if you have enough anti bodies. It took 4 weeks to get the results but it came through positive. They had me in again last week to donate again.

Would be interesting to get our grandson & maybe us tested for antibodies because he was living with us when he developed a cough fever & felt generally exhausted around Christmas/New Year time, his GF also came down with it (no surprise there) but there wasn't the detail out about it in the UK then, we just thought it was a flu type thing. Only much later when it arrived "officially" did we start to wonder.

The reason we cannot get these tests is we fall woefully short on testing facilities STILL as our starting point was miles behind other countries & they also want us to pay about £70 for the pleasure, sorry but I thought we had a health service!

Do you have to pay for tests? I thought they were free.

What’s the point in knowing if you’ve already had it? Genuine question.
If I’ve had it I should have built up some immunity, although that’s still not clear from what I’ve heard from the medics, guess it’s due to the time it takes to evaluate the stats.

And so it begins!
Just to let you know these phone calls are going round.
“Good morning, I'm calling from the NHS track and trace service. According to our system, you are likely to have been in close proximity to someone who has tested postive for COVID-19. This means that you now need to self-isolate for 7 days and take a COVID-19 test.”
“OK. Can you tell me who that person was?”
“I'm not able to tell you that. That is confidential information.”
“Right. Um... so...”
But you do need to be tested within the next 72 hours. So can I just get the best mailing address so that we can send a kit to you?”
“Ok (gives address)”
“Thank you - and I just need to take a payment card so that we can finalise this and send the kit to you.”
“Sorry - a payment card? I though this was all free?”
“No - I'm afraid not. There is a one-off fee of £50 for the kit, and test results. Could you read off the long card number for me, please, when you're ready.”
“No - that's not right. This is part of the NHS so there's no charge.”
“I'm afraid there is. Can you give me the card number please - this is very important, and there are penalties for not complying.”
Puts phone down.
This is how scammers work. And vulnerable people will fall for it.

Isn't there still confusion whether you have immunity once you've had it?
Initially there was quite a high percentage of dodgy test results, which hasn’t helped
I’ve seen top doctors/scientists on tv over the past couple of days saying the only use for this test is for data collection to better understand the way the virus spread through regions/age groups/ethnicity etc..
According to them there is absolutely no benefit to the individual, as there is no proven link between immunity and having antibodies present.

That’s just Doctor speak to say that they are not 100% certain. There’s also the fact this virus has already mutated.
However, unless this turns out to be different to all other known viruses, and what we understand about the human immune response, the presence of antibodies is usually good news for the individual concerned.

If it's like 99 percent of other similar viruses any mutation wouldn't matter much to antibodies or a vaccine, should still be effective.

One lady on my team in work sat near me was randomly selected by her GP for a government survey. She got test results back Monday and positive for the longer term antibodies 👍
She had a mild cold and loss of taste and smell in March but didn’t have time off work as no fever or cough which were the symptoms required for isolating at the time.

Hurrah for the NHS I hear from the government oh by the way you need to pay for an antibody test.

I had one done at work on 23 June (I work at a hospital and everyone is getting them) but I still haven't had the result yet.

I’ve had 2 now, first I paid for and showed positive that I had antibodies. Second a test at home kit sent by NHS MORI survey that I signed up for showed negative.

Maybe my antibodies have run out or (more likely) these tests are wholly inaccurate.

Just whilst on the subject of phone scams, I received an automated telephone message yesterday saying it was from the HMRC. It said that I have been found to have been involved in a fraud and that I needed to press 1 immediately to discuss the matter otherwise I would be arrested. I phoned HMRC and reported it. The scam message came from phone number 0151 253 4807.

Sounds like an attempt to redirect you to a premium rate line. Think I remember hearing something about this, whereby pressing “1” means you accept the charges 🤬

Why do they still pay these scammers through premium rate surely it could be legislated to only allow payment after a reasonable period of time & to legitimate companies. I don’t get it.

I've just posted about scam calls on the other thread.
A little while back I suddenly started getting calls from lots of people saying they had a missed call from me.
To cut a long story short scammers had used my number to shield the real number they were calling from. On that day they were targeting people mainly in the 0161 area so as I have an 0161 number they randomly selected mine.
Obviously reported it to BT but there wasn't much they could do about it. Fortunately it was short lived and I just unplugged my phone for a couple of days.
