Anyone else on here been to away games by transit van?

Yes happy days. Sometimes a 4 tonne Luton where we had 40 or so in it. Memorable trip to Swindon where we arrived with only 20 minutes to go.
Our record for a transit was 23 to Walsall and they weren't as big then.

Yep great fun to Fulham, Walsall and Swansea just for starters in the late 80s . Beer and games of rugby in the back.

Dare I say it Levi..... (no you don't).
Port Vale away mid 80's. Night game, returned after the game to find police round it & the van on it's side.
Coming back from Springfield Park Wigan. Back doors opened & a lad had a tom tit out the back at 70mph+ with lads holding his arms. Class 😳
Think I was on this trip also. A load of lads from Staining went in the pub opposite the Police station whilst the driver of the van filled in the details.
It was like the wild west.

The England Holland game. Dutch promising to turn up to Wembley in numbers for whatever. Ended up with less than a thousand sat scared in their seats surrounded by England.

Didn't get to infamous Torquay game but went some years later on Devi coach with the usual suspects; Jenks, Jacko, Status and my late bro. 600 mile round trip to get dumped out of FA cup by a non league side. Stayed the weekend, great laugh but took all Sunday to get home 🤣⚽🍺

Postman pat Jacko, T10??

Ha, yes 53 I was on that Swindon trip. It was I think organised via the Castle Gardens pub. We actually got there at half time and a bald headed guy in an old leather jacket (me) managed to persuade police/stewards to let us in through a turnstile which meant we had to walk through the away end. All pretty pissed everyone was enjoying the walk through. I think we stopped off on the way back near Birmingham and had an almost major issue with a coach load of City fans. A different world nowadays. It was a really hot day and stood all the way between many pub stops.

Yeah I remember the sun front page headlines saying the Dutch are coming over to sort out the English ..... consequently every fcuking mob from all over England was roaming round London looking for the no show Dutch boy's ! ... bumped into a few Rammy boy's including the late Brad RIP mate 🧡

Good to see Jenks and Beattie back supporting their home town club again this season👍

I’m sure now that it was in 88

Yea loads of times back in the day. A few times with Bennys who had the habit of travelling with the back door open , i used to shit myself about falling out on the motorway.

Other times with the “Garstang Mafia” which was eventful. When you got picked up and got in the back the smell of the ole weed used to knock you out or made you physically sick! The driver used to drive with a crash helmet on ?! hahaha. Like someone said the service stations were eventful

We went to Arsenal in one with the Over Wyre lads that was very civilised; chairs, cushions and duvets in the back and lads tucking into their packed lunches along the way!
Several great trips with the 'Garstang Mafia'

That infamous day at Rochdale was eventful as was the Cup match at Bishop Aukland; the locals were certainly game that day.

Will always remember one away trip in a huge Mercedes Sprinter when a certain individual held up a bucket in the back to have a pee. The van suddenly braked and he got covered in the stuff. Vividly remember him sat in the back in his Y fronts whilst his jeans dangled out of the window as we drove down the Motorway! 😂

Two of use went to Torquay in a tranny van with the Lancaster & Morecambe lads during the 81/82 season. Had to blag a lift to the Broughton roundabout for a midnight pick-up. Luckily a regular vistor to our drinking establishment enjoyed his Friday night trips to the coast with his younger lady friend and didn't hesitate, when asked, to give us a lift to Broughton. Overnighted in the cramped tranny arriving in time for breakfast at our digs in Teignmouth while the L&M lads carried on to Torquay.

On the way back the two of us were offloaded from the normalish L&M van into Andy Pitches van for an eventful trip home. Along the way someones clothes were distributed along the service station slip road, AP then commanded everyone to do the dying fly in the services entrance and as alluded to in another post not everyone paid for the food and drink they consumed whilst in the food queue. Pretty sure a hitch hiker was picked up on the way out of the services although can't remember if anything untoward happened beyond the mental scarring of being in a van load of Blackpool.

Arriving back into Blackpool for some strange reason it was thought to be a good idea to drive through Talbot Road Bus Station in a less than sedate manner before being offloaded outside the ground sometime on Sunday afternoon.
Mad weekend travelwise but one that can't be forgotten.

Marshalls of Lancaster - probably done 40 odd games watching Blackpool. Think the most was 21, agony. Jim sat in the front as he could read a map.

I took the helmet to Oxford after the running battle with a van load of Knobbers on the way back from Gainsborough the previous round.
They played Scunny I think and we had a go at them on a roundabout and they scarpered, but the cowardly fuckers bricked us leaving Hartshead services and destroying the van.

I got the hire van back to the place I hired it that night and posted the keys as per usual left some stones lying around so it looked like it had been damaged after I left it. 🤗
On a service station in Yorkshire? Two coaches of PNE and about 20 Blackpool?

Yep - Chester away late eighties/early nineties. Picked up Graham Berry somewhere just outside Chester City Centre. Wasn’t much fun when the driver braked whilst someone was trying to piss in a bottle! 😂😂

It was like the wild west.
That's exactly what happened Seaside. We went in a boozer opposite the police station & a load of Vale came in & started chucking glasses & bottles at us.

Not sure if Jacko was a posty Spion
Mick Jackson (brother of Bov RIP, not one of the 5 🤣)
Oh yeh and it was Statey not Status. Bloody predictive text

When the old Wembley had standing I recall a rush of supporters onto the terraces 5 mins into the game.
I think they use to let some in for free once the game had started back then.
I remember versus Brazil in 87, having to walk on peoples shoes due to no floor space.
People has to piss where they stood and the stairs were just a river of it.
Definitely over 100k that night despite whatever the official numbers printed.

Several times for me, the Friday night Wigan game and Bishop Auckland are 2 that live long in the memory. 😬

Used to run transit and Luton box vans from the Mecca to many away games in the 80s, great memories..remember getting the back of the van being locked by police coz everyone was pi...Ng out of the back on the motorway, 😃😃turned up at the Mecca to pick up for going to Torquay (the infamous game) supposed to have 15in, loads were there and we ended up 28 plus two women in it, great days,

I went on plenty of away games in the mini bus from St Anne's Tavern. Bournemouth Fulham Wycombe Bristol City a few.
Toilet was pissing in the side door step, open door on motorway to flush. Joints, beer, gambling, cards.
Last orders at Walsall FC supporters club. Maybe a stop at the crooked House pub in Warwick.
Horrendous really but back in the day it was brilliant.
