Anyone remember Hednesford Town at Home?

Head back to 1996 when we lost at home to Hednesford Town under Meson in the FA Cup. That was the day Megson lost the fans and I don't think he ever won us back. Wonder how much of a pitfall the FA Cup could be for Critchley with so many 'minnion' teams?

Took my son to this match for his first game . Should have see his face when the Pool supporter ran on the pitch to try to thump Megson !

Megson never had the fans support, the club had a giant hangover from the previous season and made a lousy start to the next. Yes we did pick up and just missed the play offs but Megson was never the right fit for BFC.
Stockport are a bigger club than Blackpool was his parting shot.

They weren't, aren't and never will be....

But possibly showed more ambition at the time. 🤔

Funnily enough was thinking about this a couple of days ago. Sat in a pub in Aberystwyth watching it, was only 10 at the time but remember been gutted. Early teens went out with a girl that family supported Hednesford Town, that didn’t last much longer than Blackpool in the Cup either

We missed some easy chances and in 89th minute they scored from a free kick.
Hit the post and straight to a forward.
Their only shot on target,

Remember it all too well. We were very, very cross after that result and quite a few of us went outside the South after the game calling for Megson’s head, and Gill Bridge came out to try and calm us down!

I think the Hednesford & PNE away game(lost 3-0) were in the same week.. We were probably the form side of the division 2nd half of the season..The damage was already done though. Agree with the above about the play off hangover, Megson didn't stand a chance..

Remember being in South Paddock discussing the expected replay and how to get there when the usual happened.

I went to see the reserves when Keith Russel played his first game , he got struck in the wedding tackle by a proper thunder Bastard of a shot, and I don’t think he ever recovered from it .

We went over to the Tangerine to drown our sorrows and their team walked in, standing ovation from all of us.

I have tried to reactivate this memory in my brain index but it just says file erased. I don't know what anyone is talking about.

Hednesford had finished 3rd in the conference the season before and also beat York 1-0 in the same season as beating us. Went out 3-2 to Middlesbrough in the 4th round.

With thanks to Wikipedia....although I do remember at the time they were an up and coming team.

Was there , was the goals corer name Conner or something like that did a dance in front of their supporters with a big hat on after the game ,i think 🤔.

That was one of the last times I went in the Tangerine club before it mysteriously burned down.

I'm sure there are too many (than I would care to mention) out there who could, rather painfully, oblige with refreshing your memory, bill40. I have to admit (through clenched teeth) I was there to witness what was - and still remains - the absolute nadir for any follower of BFC, although strangely, and for whatever reason, I don't recall being unduly troubled by the result. I was just signed off sick from work for the six months that followed ...

Yes remember it but remember Horden away more !

Joe Oconner I think, I was in the south paddock and joined the ’Megson out’ chant outside. I’m 56 now and Would have been about 29 at the time - I remember it like it was yesterday 🙈

a week later we went away to Tenerife , in a bar was a young lad (probably around 10) with his hednesford shirt on, he spotted my pool polo shirt and for the rest of the weeks holiday we met up with his family, had beers and they were at bloomfield road - they were made up they’d taken a ‘big scalp‘ out 😎 happy days
