Appleton not clapping the fans

So people are up in arms about him not applauding the fans today. I know he's shit but is that a reason to want him out? Or is this a new thing?

A lot of fans on here need to grow up if they’re really that bothered about a manager not clapping away fans who were chanting for him to be sacked. Pretty pathetic really
Comes down to leadership for me.

He’s shown us sod all really up to this point, and whilst he’s been served a bad hand the results have been terrible so in a position of leadership he has to take that on his back, front it out and bring us all along with him. He’s in a top job in the footballing world and is remunerated for it for times like this. Again, he’s shown zero characteristics in this area. A major gap when you consider there are only 92 of these jobs in the country probably about 50 really top ones.

Those fans travelled an 8 hour round trip, to watch a game they knew would be low on action or quality spent hundreds of pounds when the cost of living is crippling many. All because they love the club.

Fans will always be irrational in some of their outburst but people such as chairmen, captains, veteran players and most importantly the manager need to lead the club, the team and the fans.

He’s shown scant care for the fans.

Quitch gets derided for a lot of things most deserved for the way he left. But why were we all so hurt by that because we all generally loved him and appreciated greatly what he’d done for us.

I remember WBA away last year, heart breaking last minute loss. The 800 or so travelling fans stood and sang the team and Critchey ( by name ) off the pitch for 10/15 minutes. The bond was incredible tbh.

This is shite.

I’ll add that the shit show at Peterborough last game of the season was a disgrace and the team selection that day was unbelievable, but even though we got tubbed 5 nil that could easily have been 9 nil we still chanted and applauded Critch and the team at the end! How things have changed 🤔

Spot on MBH,
I might stop at a Blackpool hotel and drive all the way back to Cardiff. If it takes 4 hours - Blackpool was great. If I left my phone charger and the M6 was snarled and it took me 7 hours then Blackpool would be shite.

The club is going through incremental change and a rebuild. As the Italian fans at the World Cup would have mentioned, Rome wasn't built in a day (but a similar number of Jewish slaves died in the building as have in Qatar).

Appleton is, and ever was his own person, I suspect Paul Scholes loved Appleton being around to make him look a great social creature.

This season is bonkers because of the WC and the longer outwash of financials for the hospitality industry (as football at Championship level is). Look at 'Udders plight and the number of 'choice spend' businesses that are clinging on. There are 'other things going on in the world too.' Players were/ are knackered because of the compression of the season. Fans are having to choose between basic choices. Cardiff away before Christmas would have been an 'in the diary' match last August for me but the financial fuck-up that the world is impacts on everyone so I didn't go. The Championship is a thrash and work league this year. We deserved to beat Scumley and T'Blades, yet they top the league.
I'm not defending Appleton, nor am I saying he should go. However, those shaking a verbal rant at Sadler/Appleton; 'Sacked in the morning' - go give your head a wobble as you look in the mirror to congratulate yourself on a perfect life.

The sooner we get someone in who pats the badge, makes nice heart shapes 🧡 and waves to the fans after a game , I'll then rest easy👍🏻
Last one that did that went well didn't it🤭

He got told he was getting sacked in the morning at Wigan & clapped the fans, where many told him to fuck off and accused him of clapping sarcastically and staring 😆

Then he gets told he doesn’t know what he’s doing and doesn’t clap and that’s still a problem.

Let’s get it right, whatever he does people are just going to moan and create about him.

Embarassing. Just let the fella get on with his job ffs.

Weve got some proper soft arses supporting the club at the minute.

"Oh no int it awful Appletons staring at us ."

" Int it awful Appleton not clapping us."

"Critchley should be hung drawn and quartered for not saying bye bye"

Ridiculous

That’s a long read. However, I agree with it all. There’s so much truth in it that the MA out numpties could never understand

Can’t say I am surprised. Not every manager does it, nor does it have to be done. He probably doesn’t want to go over there and get abuse

Its not about the clapping (although he did show a lack of statesmanship that I think is expected), we looked like a pub side for much of the game. The quality has deteriorated this season. The mood of the away following yesterday was grim and you could hardly blame them TBH. We are a poor side and our tactical set up was weak (I will credit Appleton for the introduction of CJ and Beesley that changed our approach).

Basically shows a complete lack of respect for people who have dug deep, paid good money and taken the time to watch his team.

To not even acknowledge that is woeful and I’d hope that Mansford or someone at the club reminds him of this.

Respect is a 2 way street! Would you go over and clap someone when they are calling for you to lose your job? All this negativity is just damaging.
The football isn't great at the moment but there are mitigating circumstances and we are not adrift at the bottom by any means. Support for the team including Appleton may be the difference between us turning it around or not.

Scraftons take...

Worrying signs remain

Just two points have been picked up from a possible 18, which is as worrying as the startling drop in Blackpool’s performance since the return from the World Cup.

While the four straight defeats before the break were certainly cause for concern, the performance levels have somehow managed to get even worse despite the results appearing more positive.

Fan disconnect

Appleton is coming under serious pressure now from the fanbase and matters weren’t helped when he opted not to head over to the away end to applaud the small but loyal band of supporters who had made the long trip down to South Wales.

Given the chants of “you don’t know what you’re doing” that greeted his double change in the second-half – a change that ironically almost won Blackpool the game – you can see why Appleton might not want to show his appreciation.

But Pool’s head coach, who was also targeted by chants of “sacked in the morning” for the second away game running, won’t help himself by making the current disconnect feel even worse.

An ‘us-against-them’ mentality is the last thing Blackpool need at this moment in time when it looks for all intents and purposes like they’re going to remain in a relegation scrap for the foreseeable future.

The first-half was that bad you couldn’t help but ask yourself whether he had lost the players, but the reaction they showed in the second-half suggested otherwise. They were certainly fighting for the cause.

Does this draw only serve to paper over the cracks? I suppose we’ll only find out at Hull on Boxing Day.

A points tally of 24 points at the halfway stage isn’t exactly going to fill fans with confidence though, injury crisis or not.

I wouldn't clap our lot either bunch of self entitled pricks
Disagree about pricks, our fans have been brilliant in the past, especially when they’ve felt a connection with the manager etc, but are also human like any other set or fans when things are going badly. Some clubs are far worse and on managers backs after 1 defeat.

That first half was awful, I think any set of fans would be unhappy about that after the break where we're supposed to be improving.

I haven't chanted against him as pointless but it's easy to see why he's not liked after people's initial feelings and the season so far. People made thier minds up after Wigan.

He was never wanted by the majority and the board fucked up in summer, then didn't back him, also put prices up, since then the atmosphere has been largely sucked out.

If things went wrong this was always going to go this way, which makes the boards decision against fans will at the time even more stupid IMO.

I don't recall you're getting sacked in the morning chants at Cardiff? Maybe I'd nodded off 🤔

I until he gets his own players in yes.

We’ve been competitive with the shite players we have so add some quality and the narrow defeats will turn to draws, draws will turn to wins.

The way this league is this year if we get three wins on the bounce and we’ll be back in the hunt for the playoffs.

You do realise we can’t buy a win? I’ll have £100 with anyone that with Appleton incharge we will not win 3 games on the bounce this season. He can bring in who ever he likes, we will not win 3 on the bounce
