Appleton

My kids under 9's team need a new coach .. and I wouldn't trust him with them!!

Former Tangerines boss Michael Appleton is eyeing a return to the game in the near future. In an interview with the Daily Mail, he has said: “I’ve got no doubt I’ll be successful and as a manager all you want is a chance. I’m not asking for the biggest budget. I know the players out there and I’ve managed in three of the four leagues.
“I still have the hunger and desire to manage, and I’ve been an assistant manager and coach in the Premier League and I wouldn’t rule out those roles either. It will be interesting to see what comes next.”

I think he’ll do ok under the right circumstances (as would a few managers). First spell here can be written off due to what was happening at the club, and I don’t think he really got a fair crack here last season. Fans against him from day one, not properly backed in the transfer market.
He did ok at Lincoln. Im not saying he’s the new Ferguson, but wouldn’t surprise me to see him do ok at the right club in league 1/2.

Same old arrogant, delusional idiot we employed last season. Hopefully one of our rivals in L1 give him a job as that would be one more club we don't need to worry about.

In a game where your stats are everything
If you look at his Wiki page, apart from Leicester and his 100% win rate for just 2 games as caretaker.
His (real) win rate is just 29.4%....His win rate with us was 24.1%

Even with a decent win rate at Oxford of 45.1%....he's either been sacked or 're-organised' into a new coaching role.
As a manager, he's just getting worse and the next appointment has to be his last chance saloon

Anyway, Lowe at PNE will be leaving suddenly in the next few months and Applehead would be a perfect replacement...

So given the above we have to ask how the hell he got through our interview process at the time…..anyway these are better days so let’s not dwell too much….

Aside from not getting on with fans, where there was blame on both sides, he seemed to alienate the players too. Didn't seem to make any single part of the team function, even the midfield where he had good options. Pushed through signings like Bridcutt and was just generally very thin skinned and confrontational, until match day when he was the most passive man in the stadium. All this and he actually inherited a fit and well drilled squad.

I actually find it difficult to comprehend that someone who has been in the game so long is the way he is.

Tactically naive, poor at making obvious in game changes, never coaching from the sides, unable to see what we needed to recruit.

Appleton was a complete disaster of an appointment from every perspective.

I don’t have anything against MA at all he just wasn't exceptional .

With our budget to make the type of progress we want you need someone special.

I genuinely don't believe he thought we could have a decent season. You need to back yourself and back your players. He didnt do that.

The thing I don’t like is the lack of passion fans love a passionate manager dourness never works probably better off as a coach

I didn't like his negative vibe but he was dealt a poor hand with us and the injuries he had were outrageous. I still think he'd have kept us up (just) after getting the couple of players in. He's a perfect example of the wrong fit for our club though. As bad as he was though, it was still better than the dinosaur

Has he been manager at Salford yet? They seem to get through at least 3 managers a season and with his Man accent & Man U connections he would appear the perfect choice.

I actually think he'd be a good assistant manager, he acts like an arrogant player and would probably be a good link between the team and a decent manager. He's still a prick and never in a million years management material

dream on Michael

i genuinely thought at the time that it would work. doing the creatures from the black lagoon at home and coventry away. and then that disastrous run in october. . what would be the odds he is back in management by XMAS. there is always somone out there that will take a punt. or do a grayson and manage mumbai all stars. lol,

His personality might reap rewards in some lifeless drab town.

But I've never seen a manager so devoid of personality or charisma. And to come to a bright, noisy, loud and proud club like Blackpool was a tragic mismatch.

The guy is a tit - he was chite first time around, that was why no one wanted him here when Sadler appointed him. Load of bollocks about him being naive about the Oystons- he fucked off first opportunity when Blackburn came calling- all about the coin.

What was he doing at Chester Market? Selling tea towels? About his level .Nothing wrong with a bit of market trading . Managing a football team, now that sadly is above his pay grade !

Some fans never gave him a chance yes but he was probably the most unlikeable pool manager I can remember.

Of course that’s irrelevant if you’re getting results but he wasn’t and gave off the impression that he thought we were a tiny club punching well above our weight.

Loser mentality from a loser manager

I can't think of a single poster who tried to defend Appleton. Not a single one.....
Although I wasn’t happy when he was appointed, I thought he was doing ok up to and including the Coventry away game when we were mid table. As we all know it then went pear shaped in a big way.
However after the Jan transfer window I thought he would have done a better job than McCarthy in keeping us up

he’s done nothing of note as a manager and is as dour as they come…I wouldn’t trust him to manage his own hairdo and that’s non-existent

I spoke with him last week in the market car park in Chester. Seems like a nice fella. Said there were a few irons in the fire. Was disappointed not to see the season out after bringing in Morgan Rogers.
Was he stood on the curb with his hands in his pockets vacantly staring at a Nissan Micra in the middle distance ?
