Are these the craziest times...

The first few days around 9/11 were really weird though that was at a distance.

I lived in a mining town (Leigh) during the miners strike, but I don't really remember it and I'm not sure there was that much happening in Leigh anyway - but that must have been very odd to be part of in some places as it was more or less civil war, albeit contained to certain pockets of the country.

I've been to Norn Iron once and that still felt really odd even post trouble. Watch some footage of the 70s over there the other night, just everyday stuff and it was mental The Warrington/Manchester bombings were strange.

Can't think of much else.

Those have nothing on this though. Maybe the fall of the Iron Curtain? I was about 10 when the Berlin Wall came down and though I didn't fully get it, it was still a bit thing. Still not as global or as impactful (is that a word) directly on me.

The crazy thing is it's an attempted coup during a massive health crisis ignored by the President who's doing all he can to turn the US in to a fascist dictatorship, you wouldn't write this as a story, too far fetched.

Wonder if the senators who were questioning the right of Biden to be President will still object, in the light of what's happened?

Unbelievable! Where does this end up?
I think America’s place at the top of the table is under threat now.
Joe Biden has an even bigger job on his hands now.
Trump has a lot to answer for.

You've ever lived through?

For me, yes, a virus reeking havoc, stay at home orders globally, an attempted coup in the US....It's just surreal, I can't think of anything that comes close.
Possibly .... but I think Bobby Ewing in the shower probably shades it.

Ever since the day after the Brexit referendum the world has been a crazy place that gets crazier for me - in fact it might be a little earlier than that when Bowie died in the January of 2016 - I think The Thin White Duke was helping the world keep its shoite together, when he went all the strings broke!

I was brought up in Blackpool during WW2 and was unaware until a few years later what could have happened if Hitler had successfully invaded the country, but the scariest moment was October 62 the weekend of the Cuban missile and how close we came to WW3.
Good image to support that call.

The 1970s had an “end of days” feel about. General elections seemingly every few weeks. Strikes, including the miners’ strike (the one they won), power cuts and the lights going off and doing your homework by candlelight, three day week, ex army officers forming private armies, NF marching, NI on the verge of civil war and the IRA bombing English towns and cities. Plus going to football matches feeling a bit scared (and not about the result).

I think attempted coup is a bit strong mate, more like 5 or 6 hundred bellends in fancy dress, if it wasn't for the four deaths it would be quite funny.

First time the building has been stormed since we burnt it to the ground in 1814

Things fall apart, the centre cannot hold, mere anarchy is loosened on the world.

The best lack all conviction while the worst are full of passionate intensity.

Having grown up through the three day week etc, now is without doubt the weirdest of times, without even factoring in the biggest threats which in my view are the geopolitical/economic global reshaping going on and the rise and rise of the climate change threat.
In other news: when I began work in free trade sales for a brewery it was during the Miners' strike. My first territory covered South Yorks, where the miners were on strike, and Notts, where they weren't. Calling on the Miners' Welfare Clubs in the two counties back then was surreal - seeing the difference at the time (food parcels in South Yorks, turns performing in the cabaret lounge in Notts). Then seeing all the clubs end up going the same way.

In other, other news: what about Harold Bishop disappeared leaving just his specs, then came back as an evil Svengali figure?

I can’t believe you think that bunch of reprobates substantiates a coup. Mind boggling

Of course it was an attempted coup, incited by the president to unlawfully seize control of the country.

In the end it was a pretty rubbish one, but all the manoeuverings since the election have being laying the foundation for it.

Why do you think Trump was imploring and threatening Pence not to ratify the democratic election result?

No. He isn't. He was in danger but watched the detectives as they left the tube at Sloane Sq and decided he didn't want to go to Chelsea. How do I know all this? I heard it on the Radio Radio.
Pssttt ... Elvis Costello isn't his real name. 😲
