How many are out of action? There seems to be a depressing recurrence of last season with lots out when we really need them.
Yes I may be being over the top. I just don't know. Madine, Dougall, Stewart, others? What state will we be in come Saturday?

We aren’t ready. Seems to me we are going to try and play to keep things tight until the A teamers are fit again. We will do our best with who we can put out there.

Stewart played today. We are missing Dougall, Gretarsson, Thorniley, Madine, Virtue. They are all due back fairly soon. Only the first two would get in the XI.

Madine and Thornily are worthy first teamers. Virtue too but he's way off being ready.

It’s not ideal but we were 16 players down this time last week. 5 isn’t great but we were in bad shape last year and people stepped up.

All teams have injury issues. Just got to get on with it for the next few weeks

Bookmarked! Proven Championship centreforwardry!
I was chatting to a Bolton fan a few days ago, he was bemoaning their fanbase and said "they'll be calling for us to bring Gary Madine back next, god he was ******* useless!" Made me laugh, that did. 🤣

Because deep down, you knew how misguided their fan was. 👍

Let’s hope he is as bad for us this season as he was in his last season at Bolton - 10 goals in 28 Championship games and then sell him for £6m!
When he was fit last season he was unplayable. Yates had a great surge in form when Madine took on the workload upfront. I don’t get why he is not liked?

Are there any better target men in the Championship?

In 2007 we said most of the same about Madine towards Ben Burgess. He ended up doing a job at times for us that season ?

There probably is better but he’s good enough for us and you’re dead right; Yates played miles better when partnered by Gary Goals.

Burgess ended up doing a job at times but, like Madine, never really warranted a place. Did we miss Madine when he got injured last season? No, not even slightly, it improved us. He might do a job at times but I doubt that even. He got 3 goals in 16 games for Sheffield United more recently than his Bolton spell and some people on here have credited with getting them promoted!

I think some football fans just fixate about hard cases on the pitch. There are regular threads reminiscing about the hardest players. Let's face it, Yates and Simms was loads more successful than Madine and Yates. We kept struggling to score goals before Simms arrived, it was our defence that improved sooner, with Marv improving rapidly, Ballard, Gretarsson and Dougall arriving. Madine enabled us to go primitive for a while and clear our lines, bit it wasn't a long term measure and it's not likely to be a good approach in the Championship. And it's all assuming he's fit and available for any length of time. Why use a squad place for someone who is so rarely fit? Why hand fine contract when he's been out injured for ages and is still injured and has never done much since he arrived either? He didn't warrant another contract. At all.

He did ok but was not unplayable and there are a lot of better target men in the Championship...off the top of my head Mitrovic, Robson Kanu, Solanke

Clearly Critchley is on the right page handing Gary Goals another contract for a season at his natural level. Defenders will hate him.

I know but you've never given Madine any credit. Bee in your bonnet thst you didn't rate him and yo're not for shifting. Many others myself included were disappointed with him the season before last but when he was given a chance by Critchley he won fans over with a lot of strong performances until he got injured again. But not you eh? You're mind was made up and you weren't changing it. Clearly at the start of last season Yates needed help up front and he became a better player for it when first Madine started alongside him and then Simms.

Not bothered about your views on Voy but I'm with you on the benefits of Madine last season.

He helped out a bit last season and I have said that many times, actually mate. I do think it gets hugely over stated though. And I honestly think we could have used the squad place better, when his contract expired. Of course we could. Especially with his injury problems. I think it's a poor decision that we will regret, personally. Happy to be proven wrong.

20s turns nasty in certain situations. Don't mention Kane.
Re Madine, I'll just give one instance and it's one of my favourite goals last season: Brighton in the Cup. Lots of excellent work by the team and finished off superbly by Madine at the far post. If he can do that in the Championship it'll be a bloody good bonus

I hope he can. I don't dislike him, he's a Blackpool player and I absolutely want every Blackpool player to do well. I just don't think we've had anything like value for money from him and I think some players get hyped by fans without enough justification. Hero stuff that isn't down to footballing contribution. I disagree with those who think he's great. He hasn't done much on the pitch to warrant it. IMHO.

If Madine was available for most of our games there would be a stronger case for his place in the squad but the truth is he rarely scores and is often injured.

not said anything nasty just offering my opinion which is that you've never liked Madine. Why shouldn't I be allowed to say that.
You could rightly argue that Critchley bringing Madine into the team last season when he did kick started our season.

Simple answer to that is that Critchley offered him a new contract. Suppose that was without justification was it? Even now you like to understate his contribution by saying "he helped out a bit".

It will, and it was a good goal, but I think we need to be seeing at least a 1 in 4 goals to games ratio for a big target man like Madine.
What are his stats for goals and assists in a Blackpool shirt, totally different sort of player but my guess is they fall well short of Kaikai.

I see where you're coming from but if he lays off his headers to Jerry, Demi and CJ, then those assists will be just as important.

A big target man like Madine is an asset in both penalty areas, great to have defensively when protecting a lead or holding on to a good point but ultimately the figures for goals and assists are the most important stat and I'm not sure that his and the number of games he plays are even an average sort of figure.

Yep, OK with that. However, when there's nobody else doing that then a half pint is better than nothing.

Can't disagree, the only alternative we have in the squad is Bange and in terms of experience and ability he is a long way behind Madine right now.

of course he needs to be fully fit first but if he is he can have a big role to play either as a starter or as a plan B. A big target man is a vital cog in our squad.
