Attendances

Just having a general peruse of the attendances for the first and second division . Is it just me or , in general , have attendances improved quite a bit.
Top attendance in div. 1 today , predictably , Derby at just over a ridiculous 27000 . Lowest? Just below the 4,000 mark .
Top in the second division , as per usual , Bradford. Just under 17000 How resigned , ticked off must their fans be ? We've had a middling season and thousands? have burnt next seasons season tickets already..as it were .
Lowest? Not quite sure as very irritatingly , The B.B.C only put assorted attendances up , anyway about the 3500 mark . (Crawley probably )
I seem to recall Rochdale , Accrington , Grimsby et al getting virtually no one though the turnstiles . As recently as 2018/19 average league 2 attendances were seemingly less than 2000 .
Are clubs better run or just better marketing . What is our potential with clever marketing , better communication

Results get bums on seats and not clever marketing or better communication and sadly there's just not been enough of those this season.

And 13th in the league.
It's a totally flawed practice the ground is half empty when Bradford fans can't be arsed going because they ain't losing hardly anything.
Also helps being a big city in itself next to Wakefield - the biggest city in England to not have a football team. If Leeds didn’t swallow up most of the passive fanbase they’d be a sleeping giant.

This is entirely speculative, based on nothing but a feeling.

Football fans are seeing so many clubs in trouble, with clueless owners, badly organised EFL and FA, financial deals selling grounds, etc, they they are coming back to support regularly to ensure their club's heritage continues. In an increasing confused and unfair world, they feel supporting their roots is important and something to hang on to. We have never had so much football (albeit Premier league) on the TV, yet more want to stick with their home club, whatever the level.

I often wonder whether attendances have genuinely increased from the old days or whether clubs were just under declaring the cash taken over the turnstiles for the Taxman back then.

I see Preston had over 20k on at the weekend - over 16k home fans apparently. I wonder when the last time was we had this many fans on, or if we will ever again?

Five figure crowds in the 3rd tier is historically very good for us in the 30 odd year period I've supported the club.

There's definitely potential for us to regularly get 15000 plus in a higher division if the conditions are right.

The nobbers are having a dream season for a smallish championship club, incredibly cheap ST's, were top for a while early on, up level with 6th and going for the playoffs to the prem before their last game, in a derby that means a lot to many of them.

16k is a decent amount for a one off game. But it's funny how they never seem to admit that what they've had to do to get the current crowds.

They weren't keen on comparisons when the average was more even before their cheap tickets. If they were really a big club they'd get that each week under higher prices and no free kids etc, but they didn't, they had under 10k home fans for a couple of games.

If we get promoted and charge similar and are going for the playoffs I think we can get a lot more than we had in the last 2 seasons there for sure. We've proven that before.

I've always said we are behind but not by a huge amount under similar circumstances. There's probably a 10% or so difference on the average under equal circumstances, not worth bragging about really.

Blackpool has a lot more exiles so we won't ever get quite as many yet for 1 off games unless it's an absolutely massive game like the playoffs etc.

We've a lot to do to grow, a trip to Wembley might help though.

They were getting 8k last time they were in L1. Also, they may have had 20k for their big day recently but I’ve seen the video of Sleepdale prior to kick off playing that little song they like to sing - Jesus wept the atmosphere was hilarious ha.

We are 7th in home attendances and 8th in terms of travelling support. We are averaging just over 1,100 away.

I notice they gave the whole of the Kop to Blackburn, bumping the crowd somewhat.

Maybe it’s also to do with population growth. 50 years ago population around 50 million now 68 million. Predicted to be 74 million by 2036.

You used to get dodgy gatemen who'd let you hop over the turnstile for a vastly reduced price. That would be home and away.

Also it has been know for a Club chairman to ask for the cash boxes from the turnstiles to be brought to his car boot. Now a league club.

Yes, in the 90's in the 3rd tier, it was always around an average of 4100. I remember quid a kid, and matches where the attendance clearly was far more, and when the attendance used to get announced on the tannoy, you could clearly hear people laughing :)

See how many they get ON a next season if season ticket prices gonup and under 11s are no longer FREE

We had a ground capacity of 4,800 20 years ago.
I didn’t mean Blackpool just football attendances in general are bigger as there are more people. Also people are counted better due to health and safety and like fcblackpool said, no dodgy gatesmen.

Def something in that I remember being crammed in against Crewe I think it was with Danny Murphy playing and the gate was announced as 3.5k.

Sounds feasible to me. Plus even div 2 isn't exactly cheap but more affordable for a local family that the Prem. Or championship

Hadn't thought of that one. Pits another slant on it entirely
