Bad news or good news.

I expect a mixed response, for me if done right it could be great. I’m not into golf so something different may be good. Enough courses in this town.

The golf course will reduce from 18 to 9 holes with the key principles of widening participation, improving facilities for members, making it financially viable and ensuring any changes are sensitive to local residential amenity, heritage and conservation.

What a joke, reducing a great course to 9 hole improves facilities for members !! Really?????????

Clowncil strike again!!

How many entertainment centres and much holiday accommodation do you need?

Why not knock down the slum areas off the prom and rebuild there near the beach and existing accomodation and entertainment areas rather than destroy some of the last greenery there is in the town?
Maybe for once the clowncil are thinking outside the box, have a touch of imagination.

Dreadful idea, Blackpool council have been trying to rid themselves of this great course for years. Ivan Taylor was one of the first to comment on the ‘snobs’ who play golf. The long term plan will be more houses when this ‘ concept’ fails - shoot the lot of them !

Looks good, but what about access?

Already a very busy road used by emergency services, will only get busier.

It's the quality. The Park is the only one designed by Alistair Mackenzie, the doyen of course designers.
I suppose you can only appreciate that if you enjoy golf. I’m not disagreeing, it’s a lovely course, I live 2 minutes away. But the towns motto is progress. Wh6 not try something different.

Sadly, the ‘Mackenzie’ course is no longer there, that left when they reworked the holes at the rear of the hospital. That point alone is one the Council is using as justification for removing the other holes across the road.

So they're getting rid of the end of Salisbury Woods where the picnic area is to put an access road in while not improving any other access at all, basically spilling all their traffic out on to the zoo roundabout at Woodside Drive? They've skimmed over the increased traffic concerns of an already bloody rammed East Park Drive (main route to A & E) by suggesting their customers will only use the roads out of peak hours? What a load of bollocks.

Did I miss the mention of massively improving drainage as that area is the main drainage for all the surrounding park and houses, which is why it's a quagmire all winter? Where's that water going, back to the park and roads?

Yep could be a decent thing in general, a good addition to the town.

As for why can't they do it near the front well they'd have to grow a woodland, doesn't favour near the front and the cost would be significantly more I'd imagine.

The green space is not going away just changing.

Shame for golf fans and the history but not the end of the world for me with a decent replacement. There is a golf course right next to it.

At least its a positive replacement and not a bloody car park for once..... 🙄

That’s the problem, they have slowly removed funding and allowed the course to fall into the state it is, pity they didn’t think about that when the course was funding various Council ‘projects’

I assume your not in favour 😂

There is a golf course right next to it but out of the price range of many.

What about north shore?

As a thought about some of the run down areas nearer the front we've seen luxury apartments go up near the solarice centre.

Would more apartment blocks in these areas be welcome and also free up some space for greenery?

Also with this in mind with limited space in the town is building upwards a bit more the answer?

I've lost you there.

The whole thing about Stanley park is it’s an accessible full length course that isn’t too intimidating to inexperienced new players (usually younger people) and is available at reasonable cost. A lot of Blackpool’s courses are proper challenging to novices. Losing the 18 hole experience is a backwards step in my opinion.

Starve it if funding for years, piss about with the layout, get numpty private companies to run it into the ground, see numbers drop, then say it’s ripe for Re-development. Classic council.

North Shore should relocate to the Park, invest in the course and free up the land which it currently occupies in that area.

Everyone has the chance to go onto the website and fill in the survey raising your concerns.

My three main gripes are...

1. Loss of more green space in a town that is already under the national average.
2. Affordable golf for both local and visitors being retained in the town, thos course is the only municipal in the town.
3. The dangers of increased congestion of traffic around the east park drive area making it harder for the emergency services to access Victoria hospital.

I have had my say on this subject many times on other threads during the last year , I just have very little confidence in this Labour council , what with Simon Blackburn being allowed to be a councillor for Brunswick ward , whilst living in Devon, plus this terrible decision regarding this fantastic golf course…….very sad times for locals.

Sacrilege, they should be shot!
It may not be one of his best but still a MacKenzie course and should have been preserved!

A bit of positivity required, chaps.
If you fall off the high ropes, you’re in an excellent spot, for a trip to the Vic!

I'm not interested in golf, but not that selfish that I don't think affordable golf should be available to all & not just the rich as has been the case up to 30 years ago or so. Also I'm not against improvements, providing they are above board! Make of that what you want.
