I’m not sure if it’s the system or formation or the players being used but I’m really not sure what we are trying to do?!
Neither wing-back gets wide and past their man to whip crosses in, we have to rely on left centre-half James Husband for that. One of the wing-backs wouldn’t be bothered if he didn’t touch the ball the whole game, infact I think he’d be relieved- I’ll let you work out which one, I’ll give you a clue, he makes Elliott Grandin look like Bear Grylls and it’s not Andy Lyons.
The midfield 3 has Norburn sitting with the other 2 advanced in the ‘8’s’ role but I’m not sure if they’ve been told to not dribble with the ball or just don’t seem to look like they can do it.
We’ve got a 6ft 2 centre forward who rarely wins headers and on the off chance he does, there’s nobody close to him. He’s not mobile either and can’t hold the ball up, just to add to the mix.
We’ve got a centre back who’s being asked to play like Franz Beckenbauer which is highlighting that the ball at his feet isn’t his game, badly. He’s hitting long diagonals to the forward above who can’t win headers.
I’m not really sure what we are trying to do or the pattern of play but one thing is for sure, if the game is to sell Bowler and Yates in the last 12 months and not spend any of this on quality players to be top of the balance sheet league then I’m not really feeling it.
If it’s all being set up to sign Gary Madine for f all then it’s a no from me, although I’d have him over Jake Beesley any match.
The lack of options via the bench highlighted by the 1st sub Matty Virtue coming on to change the game 5 years after we’ve signed him, isn’t where it’s at.
Nobody wants us to go mad on transfers, but we need some quality and we need to spend some of the money we’ve raised by selling to do it. Norburn is quality and you have to spend to get it. We’ve raised money to reinvest.
We need attacking width & physicality in attack.
A big couple of weeks to sort this out or the promotion push as a minimum isn’t going to be happening…
Get that fooking chequebook out.
