Barnsley v Blackpool Official Matchday Thread 30.09.23

I can't understand why we don't play away matches as if we're at Bloomfield Road. I'm certain it would stop the opposition thinking all they need is a goal and, "That's an easy three points in the bag."
COME ON NEIL. BIG TEST TIME.
Please set the team up like last Saturday, let the lads have a go at them and, SURPRISE-SURPRISE, we can beat Baaarnsley.
🧡UTMP🧡

They are the leading scorers in the division at the moment. Going at a rate of 2+ per game. Though that is skewed by the annihilation of Port Vale 7-0 early this term. Pool are of course going at barely one a game but last weeks thrashing of Reading skews the average too.

Still, could be a few goals on offer here. I've got 2s on my mind. If Pool can get consistency on the go then a 2-0 win may happen. Or if not 2-0 to Barnsley. Or even an end to end 2-2 could be on the cards.

Don't see a 0-0 happening but you never know 😉

Just watching Barnsley podcast Red All Over. Forgot that they signed Cosgrove from Birmingham, the big centre forward we were going to sign. They rate Penny, Norburn & Rhodes (who always scores against them by all accounts)

Just hope critch doesn't change team and go all defensive. If all fit start the same as reading 🤞

Still annoyed he didn't give dembele more minutes as really was a free hit when 4 up.. can't see him playing much sat... but then again with critch watch him start!!

Not feeling confident about the next two games we never beat Barnsley and the only time we ever beat derby it’s in the cup I’ll be happy with 1 point from the two fixtures

We will probably get one point at best but not even Cheltenham would be happy with a return of 1 point from 6.

Sounds like Dougall is 50/50 and Critch implied the side will be different from last week.

“We always pick what is the right team for the game we’ve got in front of us, so the game at Barnsley will be different to what we faced last week. The game against Reading was completely different to the one we faced against Wycombe, every team gives you a different problem and therefore the personnel which you choose can change because they bring their own personal attributes to the team.

“We felt last week, with Owen Dale higher up the pitch in the wide area and Matty Virtue and Kenny Dougall running from midfield and supporting the strikers, that would be the best way to go about it.

“I’ve never been afraid to change a winning team, I told that to the players. Matty Virtue wasn’t even in the squad against Wycombe and then he started the next game, so all of the players need to be ready for selection.

“We pick the team we think is best suited to the game we’re facing.”

In other words, ‘I like to be as random as possible’.

Wouldn’t surprise me if he throws in Marv today for a bit of extra height as Barnsley will have some big lumps attacking set pieces

Kouassi up top with Rhodes made a big difference last week. Whatever changes he makes I hope he keeps those two as starters. I feel sure goals will follow. Will be happy with a point from this game.
More importantly Dale made a difference but let's enjoy a more defensive team today and probably a similar outcome to Wycombe and Lincoln. I am writing this hoping I am wrong.

Good test today, we tend to do better vs better teams who will come at us.

Hopefully we can be more effective with long balls and that'll make it easier to pass it around too.

If we are serious about going back up we need to start winning away, we've had the feeling out and adjustment period, let's see how good we are.

I hope your wrong as well.

Hopefully we will be believe in ourselves and be aggressive🙏

Doesn't bode well but i suppose we can only wait and see... maybe he's just trying to keep Barnsley second guessing... and everyone else!

Yes it's something he says often and he won't want the opposition to know. But he might well be worried about being exposed in the wide defensive areas. It's like playing 3 at the back really worries him.

Anyone know, if you're outside the UK, can you stream the game via TTV? Asking for me dad!

You can indeed. Every league game home or away is streamed except for if we’re on sky. Tenner a single game or you can buy a season pass.

Not much more he could do if they are injured, good job Kenny has come through his injury scare. I think I would have had Marv in for Connolly but it will do. We need to play with the same attacking intent as last week because if we try and defend with CJ and Dale as wing backs we will be in trouble.

I can't see Barnsley not scoring. They have Devante Cole up front. It will have to be Holloway tactics from us.

Anyone had problems purchasing TTV from Spain today?
