Beatles new record- Thoughts!

Its ok nothing special it was on an old cassette along with free as a bird and real love which came out during the anthology project none of the tracks were thought good enough for Lennons final album before his death so a bit of prospective needed before judging i guess anything by the Beatles is ok in my book there as good as it gets.
Perspective.

"forget the new Beatles song and have a listen to the new Sufjan Stevens album for example..."

Not the attitude you were proffering in your first paragraph, is it?
Yes it is, don't be ridiculous, I'm just saying open up a nit, the Beatle song will be on every radio station for weeks, every hour so you can hardly avoid it, I have already said I think it's a bit shit, but it's just my opinion, I'm not throwing the toys out of the pram like some are as is always the way on here sadly.

It's just a matter of taste. I don't know the music you like but if I did I might say it's not my thing but I'm not going to say it's shit...unless it's boy band bollocks, which is!

I don't think the Beatles are shit, just read my post above, I just think this new/old song is bang average, but it's for a good cause and it will sell millions so in that way it's great, but as a song, in my opinion, it's very forgettable.

Some really negative comments from the usual miseries on here who think they are experts and know sod all.
I remember when I heard “Strawberry Fields forever” for the first time. Bloody awful I thought.
Anyone who says overated should give their heads a wobble. Just look at their C/V.
The Stones are good but sorry they are not in the same league.
🎣😁

People do like to get a bit ‘up themselves’ where music is concerned.

You should realise that if you don't like the Beatles, that you're a philistine, who knows nothing about music and so you're not fit to be a member of "Music Club".
“Oooh Music Club“

can I join, I really like Dylan Maaaaaaaan!

Of the rescued demo tracks I’d say it’s better than Real Love and not as good as Free As A Bird. But none are a patch on anything they released back in the day as a single.

I’m off to listen to And Your Bird Can Sing which is hands down my favourite of theirs….yet Lennon thought his own song was shit. It’s all opinions … and things float your boat or not.

Reminds me of that bit in Trainspotting when they’re on about Lou Reed and Bowie. It’s not bad. It’s not great. And deep down you tell yourself it’s a grower but you know it’s not.

The interesting bit is how it was made. AI is gonna be a really good or bad tool. I saw a video the other day of Johnny Cash singing Taylor Swift through AI and it’s unbelievably accurate and dangerous
check out SINATRA sing gangstas paradise on TIKTOK. UNREAL

“And your bird can sing” what a great intro to a great song, off my fab and favourite Beatles album.

The white vinyl is 16.99. wow.
They don’t produce a huge run and the cost of producing 45s when the demand for albums is really high and the number or pressing factories is historically very low makes it inevitable 45s will be pricey compared to back in the day.

Newly pressed albums are touching £50 these days with fancy gatefolds so I think the revival is likely to hit a wall if the go much higher.

Aren’t the proceeds going to charity anyway?

Hey BFC,I did recommend to your dream Lytham festival featuring Cold Play, James Blunt and Kylie.
Anyone who likes Coldplay are not fit to engage in any musical discussion. I had a few beers with James Blunt when DJing a festival in Exeter once, he was a lot more rock n roll than his music suggests. As for Kylie, well I would…

George Harrison wrote some of the best Beatles songs ever. Paul McCartney later said they should have given him more opportunity.. On many albums they told Ringo this is your song even though he didn't write it so he would get writing credits

Rubber Soul's better Levi👍🏻

Edit to add, my youngest lads favourite Beatles song is off Revolver, Tax man
Liked Rubber Soul as well Wizzer, but when I first heard Revolver, you could hear a new experimental direction they were taking. “Tomorrow never knows” blew me away, remember thinking what the buggery bollux is this! Backward tapes etc. plus of course a few years later after imbibing microdots, it all fell into place.🤭

Beatles on the BBC on BBC 2 now
WAS living in Ad

looks really smart . wouldnt mind.

The last Beatles songs for me will always be the Golden Slumbers/Carry That Weight/ The End medley, perfect end to their career.
That lyric for The End is magic.
I always loved the fact The Beatles ended their career with the line: "I'd like to thank you on behalf of ourselves and the group, and I hope we passed the audition"

The little joke John Lennon makes at the end of Get Back, the last track of their last album - during their last ever live performance. Even though it was some typical Lennon sarcasm, the sentiment always creates a tiny little lump in the throat.

I didn't think I'd like it,but I do. I also think the 'fakeness' being audible is kind of apt as you can sort of hear what it is. It's also true that the Beatles (George Martin) were all about creativity/innovations in the studio.

It actually prompted me to listen to some old Beatles stuff for the first time in a long, long, long time and to marvel at it. Strawberry Fields.... Wow. Just wow.

I have no time for 'the Beatles were shit posturing ' - some, in fact quite a lot of their stuff I don't like but their evolution is amazing and some of it sounds incredible today, like it's not dated at all. Obviously, they define the 60s but *some* of their work is still mind blowing... 'a day in the life...' as exhibit No1 - if that had never been written and was released today by some random band, my head would fall off at it.

Gash like all their other stuff
Is that ‘Cos there is no reference to food in the lyrics?
Gash, like all their other stuff eh? Is that from your very limited knowledge of the music world Allez?
Lennon and McCartney, the most prolific songwriters of their time and the Beatles one of, if not the most successful groups ever. And that is globally!

I think you have to be really careful where music is concerned and especially making judgements what people should like / what is definitively good or bad in many respects.

From a personal perspective Lennon’s voice just goes straight through me. It’s kind of like listening to someone scratching a knife on a plate☹️ I even struggle with the way the band sound, the harmonies the little infills… it’s a sound that makes my ears bleed.

If anything, I find the earlier stuff that didn’t have that kind of whining Lennon drawl easier on the ear. I can remember listening to imagine as a kid and finding it excruciatingly hard to listen to… in fairness Bowie has a very similar effect I just hate the sound of his voice.

So it’s difficult to get past a sound that really doesn’t appeal.

That doesn’t mean I can’t recognise they obviously had a big impact on music generally or that I would knock their creativity etc.. It just means I can’t get through a full Beatles song without getting a desperate urge to just switch it off ….

I’m sure if some of the stuff they produced was sung by someone else, then perhaps I’d get a more of a sense of their greatness, but as it is I do kind of fit in the ‘this is really shit’ category… and I’ve really tried to like them.

It’s weird it really is, because ‘A Day in the Life’ is literally like Chinese Water Torture from my perspective. I would literally confess to a crime I didn’t commit, just to make it stop.

It’s an easy listen but not a banger.

Nice melody in parts a bit mediocre in other parts.

They had a 20 year career in 7 years. The progression from their first record to their last is incredible.

The idea that they're objectively bad is ridiculous. If they're not someone's cup of tea that's fair enough.
