Beesley

Did everyone enjoy that classic centre forward performance? Didn’t give their central defence a moments peace, was a non stop physical presence, worked the channels constantly, quick footed, intelligent flick ons. Marvellous stuff
Not. Good. Enough. We need to move on from Beesley being the answer to anything.

He was jumping up too early to win the headers most the time.

He tries hard but he’s not good enough.

He’s fine maybe as a backup but we need another striker with more of a physical presence who is more ruthless in front of goal.

Bees ain’t that.

I’m not sure what Beesley is. Seems to lack pace and skill so thought he was a target man. Not sure that’s his bag either. Confused about his role. Probably need to look to bring in an extra 2 strikers that are a bit more dynamic

Actually you can. What about Apter or Holmes? Surely they couldn’t do worse???
Apter isn’t a striker. I would like to see him get minutes, though.

Holmes just isn’t ready for regular starts in the senior squad, it wouldn’t be fair to him and it wouldn’t be the right approach to help develop a young talent.

Beesley doesn't look to be either but he's getting picked! At least give Brad a chance.

Absolutely give Brad a chance if and when he is ready.

Beesley is imo physical enough to handle this league. He has returned from a long term injury and the season is only just beginning. Maybe give him a chance?
How do we know if he's ready if we don't give him a chance to prove it? Some people look like world beaters in training yet are garbage on the pitch, and vice versa. Striking is more about instinct than anything else, you can't coach instinct and it only really shows in games. Give him some minutes at least!

While you make some good points, I’m going to have to disagree again. If you have a strong natural instinct as a striker, it shows in both training and games.

Brad will get a chance if he deserves one. Dobbie will make sure of it.

Do we know that it's not showing in training? Captain careful doesn't appear to be one for taking a punt, does he? He may be crap, who knows!

He returned to Blackpool, I’d say that is taking a punt!

Joking aside, Brad will be showing in training that he is a young player who has the potential to improve and earn a place in the senior team, but is not currently a better option than what we already have up top.

It’s a bit like a couple of seasons ago when some fans really wanted Stuart Moore in goal.

As much as I’d love to have a 6ft3 forward on our hands who bosses a defence and makes life easier for our little Irishman we just haven’t have we?
He’s lightweight for his size and I don’t really care if he scores a few in the efl cup (or whatever it’s called) he’s just not the answer and never will be and his stats at lower level tell us that.sorry Critch 👎🏼

If Beesleys showing more in training than Brad, we should probably let Brad go as well as Beesley!

I appreciate the Moore scenario but then fans called for the bang average Grimshaw to replace the bang average Maxwell when I was calling for a keeper that was better than both of them! 😉

Well, getting a decent goalkeeper in on a budget like ours is tough, as they are a lone position so there is a much smaller Pool to choose from!

Generally I just hope we move on soon, I don’t care who starts scoring the goals- even if they do it with their arse, and as an aside, thank fk they didn’t get that penalty shout.

He's not good enough to be starting every game for us, but we do need a tall striker to play alongside Lavery. Beesley isn't strong enough. Also, when he does win the ball, his knock-on's seem to go all over the place, instead of where we want them to. Definitely room for improvement and hopefully we bring someone in of a similar ilk but stronger and with a bit more quality.

Beesley isn't great, but frankly if it wasn't for him today, we'd have created even less. It's hard to believe that's possible, but it is. He was our only outlet in the whole game, because the midfield just isn't functioning at all.
yep, well said. Midfield is very poor at the moment. No one seems to be capable of wanting and getting on the ball and carrying it forward. There is no link up play between midfield and forwards. Inverted wing backs isn't working especially Hamilton. Yet Critchley seems obsessed with bringing midfield players in but seemingly doesn't know how to use them properly. So many fans seem to be on Mrvs back for his passing but when you see how little choice he's got it's no wonder he's making too many mistakes.

He’s poor. I personally think, and may be wrong, but the main issue is that he’s not a target man. I think he sees himself as more of a Lavery type player - playing on the shoulder of the last man and poaching. When you think of his goals for us, a clever finish against Derby, two poachers goals against Brum.. no towering headers or anything like the sort. When Husband played that long diagonal ball first half yesterday Beesley and Lavery made identical runs and Beesley got a foot to it when really Shayne was in a better position due to being that bit quicker. He probably does a good job at that sort of role in League 2 but in this league he’s miles off it.

Perhaps unfair to single him out but his lack of quality showed more than most yesterday. Tries hard but we need better, much better.

Completely agree 20s, I feel a bit sorry for Marv. He's waiting for the midfielders to give him an option and it rarely comes, meaning he either loses it or hits it long. Both Port Vale and Leyton Orient passed it from defence into midfield much more successfully than we did. We desperately need at least a couple more in before the end of the window.

As for inverted wingbacks, I'm stumped as to what this gives to us. A player as quick as Hamilton can comfortably get past most full backs in this league, so why not just allow him to do that on his strongest foot? I thought we looked better when Lyons and CJ swapped around in the second half. Lyons certainly did.

I must have been at a different game yesterday. I thought Jake won a fair percentage of his headers, but with midfield missing in inaction there was no one to pick them up. I wonder where this safety first approach sits with the owners intent to bring us attacking football?

Thought he did OK with dismal service. I blame the system not the personnel.
👆🏻 This.

How many times did we play out from the back and those trying to do so were waving their arms / shrugging shoulders at the lack of options. The team had been told to play a system that obviously was not working and the only plan B was to hit long diagonals in hope.

It was not attractive, and was barely effective. It’s going to be a long season.

Am afraid Jake Beesley is this season's Joe Nuttall - as much as everyone wants him to do well, deep down I think we all know it ain't going to happen.

You give them a chance to prove it at a lower level, like National League North, if they can do that then you move them up a level and repeat until they've proved it at a level at least close to where we are today.
