Best city in UK to live

Thats your opinion. I also have mine!
I live in a great part of Manchester. I have Lancashire cricket ground nearby, Chorlton with loads of bars and restaurants, the city centre not far with loads of music venues and other stuff. The places you name are pretty dull in comparison. In my opinion. Nice for a day out maybe. Trip on the river or whatever.

Ahhh Chorlton... used to live there.

Very high % of schweffs.

I would rather live in some of my suggestions and then venture to Manchester for a night or day for the very reasons you suggest.

Chorlton is a place to visit - not to live. You seem to have a proper chip on your shoulder.

Excuse me, what have you got against granola and mom jeans 🥹 both are a staple of mine.

You trouser shaming cerealist. Down with you 😏
Bet your granola fuelled , Lala filled mom jeans are an uplifting site to behold on a fine sunny seaside afternoon 😁

If Chorlton has a load of bars and restaurants why why would you not want to live in that area? I'd have thought that most visitors to Manchester would head to the city centre for the museums, theatres and nightlife that the city centre has to offer. Some experts say Chorlton is the second most desirable place to live in Manchester.

I used to live there. I became irritated by it. If you knew it you would know why. It's walking distance for me.

Do you mind...I spent 10 years living in Chorlton just off Beech Road.....Lovely place
Horse & Jockey, the Beech...some of the best restaurants in Manchester.....

Forgot to say...where else could you see Curly Watts blasted out of mind, propping up the bar in the Bowling Green pub every night....

If that's the case then surely it's you who has a chip on your shoulder.. And it seems your opinion goes against the grain of the experts. No surprise there then.

What? Which experts? Looking for a fight as usual.

You do like that ridiculous and inaccurate word. It seems a bizarre reason for not liking a city. Manchester is a vibrant and multi-cultural city with a great centre and many lovely suburbs.

Chorlton -cum Hardy.. Chorltonville...lived there for 30 years..not a bad place for work..the Meadows, Mersey, cafes,bars,pubs...high crime though..eg not nice having your car smashed up on driveway by balaclava clad thugs...in the end glad to cash in on the ridiculous over priced property prices.. you get a lot more for your money any where else in the country inc some parts of London..

York for me, it's just a beautiful historical city and has such a great choice in bars and restaurants and the shopping is also very good.

I can't believe not one vote for Preston either. 😂

It's a made up word.

How can it be inaccurate?

That's not the only reason.

- schweffs
- extortionate prices
- loads of dossers as well
- and the centre and many other places are dirty

Birmingham, Five Michelin Star Restaurants, Selfridge's,Harvey Nichols. Great transport links, buses , trains and trams. Good hospitals , plenty of parks. Football teams are shite and plenty of rough areas I drive through with the doors locked 😂

been to all three of Manchester, Liverpool and Edinburgh and enjoy the city centre of all three. One of my sons lives in Edinburgh so it's a great place to go and stay for a week. Hopefully off there next month for a week. Liverpool I like and am a regular visitor there two or three times a year and enjoy walking along the dockside there. And Liverpool One is a great shopping area. Not overly familiar with the pubs though. Like Manchester too, perhaps for me the city centre doesn't have a much to offer but there's some great pubs and restaurants there in and around the city centre.

But where would you live? Agree about Liverpool but couldn't live there. Off there in June to see the Pet Shop Boys.

Well just for the record and knowing you live there, I've never been to Birmingham apart from for football when it's always been straight in and straight out so I don't know the City at all. Same with Bristol. I think it would be unfair to compare the three i've mentioned with the likes of York and Chester which are much smaller and the city centres are based pretty much solely on tourism. I love going to London and doing all the touristy stuff too.

Where would I live? Well home is where the heart is and as I've never left home it's just got to be Blackpool.

just one other point to add is that it's stating the obvious that most residents live in the suburbs of the big cities and having a good knowledge of all those areas is no easy task when it comes to deciding as an outsider where to live. Not sure, i would ever want to live in a city centre.

I was just thinking about city centres I'd actually live in and reckon Manchester just about fits the bill as theres only me and the wife. Then again where would the grandkids play when they visited. Sod it we'll move to Spain they can play in the pool 😂

Used to live in Chester and that’s nice apart from the influx of scousers
A lot a shops empty now though
Think York is hard to beat ( and drier )

There are some lovely areas in Birmingham
I was born and lived in a place called Harborne, about 3 miles from the city centre just next to Edgbaston.
Bearwood, Mosley, Bournville are all lovely....but then you have Balsall Heath, Small Heath and Yardley.....Makes Blackpool look like Kensington...

I had the shits for hours after eating at the Horse & Jockey, and it wasn't nice.

What's the record shop in Chorlton called...can't remember....quite famous. Opp Morrisons and up a bit.

Lived in Wells for a couple of years, small but beautiful, a market town really but with a massive Cathedral, loved it 👍.

Must of been similar time to me, curly lived in the apartment below us, Trevor was our go too

Higher up the thread it was the cocky Mancs you didnt like about Manchester.
Nope.

Only every mentioned the annoying schweffs.

Please quote me if you can find the comment about so called "cocky mancs" which is a phrase I'm fairly certain I've never said at all nevermind on this thread.
