Best Pre-season Friendly?

As we're now in the midst of what should be pre-season, what was your favourite pre-season game?

I'll have a think but what was the pre-season game where the Muckers got it called off?!

I always liked Southport away.

In better times it would be great to sort something with York City, as that is the perfect city for a few beers and a bit of football.

Penrith was by far the best day out for me.

My father-in-law has been battling a multitude of illnesses over the years got to meet Daddy Incey.
Being an ex Liverpool season ticket holder in the past, and since an avid armchair supporter simply made his day that day.

He went down after the final whistle to shake hands with random players, then kept turning to me and asking ‘ Who‘s he, because the only player I recognise is Incey Jnr.’

Remember also Craig Cathcart chatting to him, but the others are a blur now.

Ok.....you win. Your destination is slightly more exotic, but Penrith FC did kindly hand out free sausage rolls and pies during half time 😆

Harrogate Town when Tricky Trev made his debut (awaits more knowledgeable fans to point out it wasn't his debut) because it was my home town at the time.

Portadown. It's the nearest I've got to watching Blackpool in another country. I was touring Ireland with my dad and drove from Sligo to catch the game.

Hi shootz! This is a memorable game for me too with being a Harrogate local, u know who I am! Also I remember Pool 1-0 Man U in about 1993. United’s team had many of the ‘class of 92’ in their team. I think the winner came from the penalty spot, Bryan Griffiths?

Agreed - Seem to remember Gnashers had A great battle with Fellaini and came out well on top. Didn’t James Caton score as well? Remember thinking we had found a good one there but sadly didn’t work out in the end.
Thinking more of the general movement of the team. But yeah I can recall Fellani and the fullback with the cultured sideburns.

Hiya, knew you were a lurker on the other site but not sure you had transferred over. Hope your good and looking forward to promotion!

I remember a friendly with Man Utd in the early 80s. A mate of mine who supports the dirty reds travelled over to the game. From memory, the ref for the game was from Blackpool. He gave us a “softish” penalty late on and we drew 2-2 in the end. Mate was outraged at the decision, which was very funny.

The Town End being set alight whilst beating them 5-1 at the same time was a good one.

Edit : not sure if that was pre-season though.

That wasn't a friendly. It was in the very important Marsden Cup, possibly the largest trophy in world football.

Anyone remember when we played 3 Scottish sides every Saturday at Bloomfield Road and every week a pissed us Scot would should us his neeps and tatties by running across the pitch naked!

Not sure why but the club almost killed pre-season in recent years - poor opposition, little in the way of home games and certainly no prestige games.

Played Celtic in a pre season friendly and as usual there was a lot of their fans, but the highlight was a young Celtic player who I believe it was one of his first games.
You could tell he was something special Kenny Dalglish

I enjoyed the Southport & Lancaster away games (local and some good pubs )also Morecambe was good as well.
Both those were great days out having plenty to drink.
At home, I used to go to a lot of pre-season home games back in the late 60's and 70's but can't recall many apart from one against Coventry.
The Everton one mentioned was a great game. Was it Demogtiac[spl] scored early on for us?

Enjoyed Fylde away last season after not going to a game home/away or any friendlies whilst boycotting it was good to get the train have a few pints and see the Pool on a glorious summers night.

Beating Everton 2-1, a sign of things to come under Ollie. 9000 crowd, South Stand going up nicely and Charlie Adam signed permanently the same day.
