Best team won

Defeat I can accept, but the manner of the performance was utterly shocking and not one outfield player can come out of that with any credit.
We are at home and don’t leave anyone up when defending a corner or free kick…why why why?
Marvin was back to his most uncomfortable on the ball and misplaced passing.
Midfield was non existent and far too static expecting the ball to come to them and not moving into space.
CJ was back to his most ineffective side as well.

They sat in and wasted time and we fell for it hook line and sinker.

We’re also far too nice and soft. Players should be round the ref when their striker (weird **) went into Grimmy after he’s already been booked & flew into a few of them. Their keeper took the piss but we let him. He couldn’t kick a ball properly.

We got completely done tonight by a dogshit team but they played it to perfection and made us lump it.

1 step forward, 1 step backwards, rinse and repeat. Yet people are claiming progress. I was clinging onto some of that belief after Portsmouth but well and truly shattered tonight.

Everything about that performance especially the 1st half reeked of thinking our B game would be enough to beat them.
The Husband fuck up just compounded it, then heads it over the fuckin bar from about 10 yards out.
Utter shite from the start and they deserved to lose.

They didn't have to be good to beat us.

It was a shit performance. We have too many of them in our locker. If we want promotion, we need to do better. Over to Critchley
I tend to agree that we were just poor tonight really. Too many players just off the pace both mentally and physically. A complete waste of a fantastic result and performance on Saturday.

If we are genuinely looking to get promoted then we’ve got to be capable of putting consistently good performances in and not just turning up now and again.

Personally I was disappointed and worried the moment I saw the team sheet. My mate said to me … Is Critchley “bending to pressure from the crowd here” … Very disappointed with that, because we are far better than that!!

Incidentally, I really hope tonight puts to bed any complacency over what is needed come January!!

I disagree as I thought Dembele deserved credit and so did Rhodes for his goal…the rest were pretty poor

personally thought Dembele was poor. Overall Northampton fully deserved their win. Right from the off we were laboured and slow in possession and some of passing all over the pitch was awful. I've said enough times the importance of getting that first goal and we couldn't do it. That said Beesleys attept can only be described as feeble and Dale should have buried that header with the last action of the match.

The good thing is it highlights we need some decent signings in January. No fuckin about.

Left wing back for starters, someone who actually takes people on.

I don't think this has anything to do with the same team playing and us being tired. More to do with a complacent attitude. We seem to have players who would like to win rather than players who don't want to lose. There's a big difference. Also we have 3 or 4 pretty poor players wjo stay in the team cos of the odd good performance.

Irrespective of the result and ok I watched it on TTV every time their keeper was fly kicking out of the box he was actually never in it and nor was the ball….maybe the rules have changed but if so😡
And his time wasting from minute 1. 3 minutes added time at end of first half was laughable.

Hoofball , losing possession really easy , going backwards , bad passes , poor in front of the net . Bad night at the office , let’s hope we play better vs Carlisle who got beat 5-1 away at reading

Please no as that would mean 3-5-2 is here to stay. We will never win promotion playing this formation. Feel free to bookmark
We are not going to get promoted if we beat pompey away and lose to northampton at home. The inconsistency is why we are not in the playoffs with games in hand, Cirtch gets criticized for changing the starting XI but tonight was the ideal time to rest 2/3 from the weekend. We looked completely out of steam for most of the game.

Grimmy got booked Saturday for taking less time than their keeper did tonight, from more or less the start. It obviously doesn't count when the scores are level.

I knew Sam Hoskins was going to be a thorn in our side tonight and he was. The performance was like going from caviar on Saturday to fish fingers tonight!

I thought they played it to perfection, they had a game plan and it worked, they stopped us playing, they played quite narrow and kept it tight. Fair play to them. Our back three looked uncomfortable both on the ball and defensively, our two wing backs didn't create enough if anything and our midfield was poor, we where never able to get control of the game We saw bits of Dembele but i thought he should of done better in the first half when through on goal but he didn't want to use his right foot, Our forwards were poor and to wide apart from each other but they can only act on service given and that was minable, Rhodes took his goal well great header. A mistake for the second goal it happens but we were lucky to get away with the Marvin back pass previously when Grimshaw got injured.
Overall a poor performance. With regards any subs made Critchley could of brought anyone off and no would could of complained.

It’s got to the point where we almost accept these type of performances as they happen so often. I honestly don’t know how Critchley is going to change it.

We just didn’t look interested for 75 minutes just so lacklustre.

1-2 down on 89 minutes and we’re playing the ball backwards from attacking positions. 🤷‍♂️

I must have been at a different game because I think Dembele set CJ away first half although the chance was wasted and he also laid a goal on a platter for Beesley whose finish was dreadful. On another day those two pieces of skill alone could win you all 3 points. It was however an awful overall performance. Brilliant finish by Rhodes deserves a mention also.

yep, he played Beesley in but it was a pretty easy pass to make. Overall he gave the ball away too many times with some shocking passes. Never really managed to influence the game at all imo.

Everyone was off it tonight. Husband and Marv hesitant, Dembele and Dougall ineffective, Carey back to his old pass back first ways and Beesley was all at sea. Bad day at the office all round so let’s not repeat that any time soon

Dembele certainly wasn’t at the races tonight… I’m not sure any of them were to be honest. He looked a shadow of himself…

Definitely. Thought Northampton played it spot on to expose all our weaknesses and their fans who travelled can be proud of the way they approached it and kept going to get the three points.

I didn't enjoy anything about it and was expecting it to be a struggle anyway. Was hoping to be surprised by a quick tempo start but you can tell straight away this season which sort of game you're going to get by how much slow pissing about at the back there is in the first few minutes
