Best World Cup ever that

For me

Really enjoyed it from start to finish, probably watched more football these last few weeks than I ever have before

Some great games, fantastic players and some brilliant atmospheres from some of the lesser nations

The greatest show on Earth

Well done FIFA for sharing the World Cup, what a fantastic host Qatar was

Was superb. The football incredible. A real shame some of the games had fewer supporters than really should have been there though. But that final is something we’ll be talking about to younger generations for many many many years to come.

I enjoyed it whilst we were in it, watched from 81 minutes today; pleased to see the rise of an African country into the semis; Messi win his World Cup and the hypocrisy end

Think I still prefer a summer World Cup as it's easier to get the flags out; but all in all, it's been great.

Everyone who played a part from the concept of the big, to building the infrastructure, to the fireworks tonight should be proud

I don't think that's an issue, I very much doubt ever game sells out at ever single World Cup

Intact I know it doesn't

Agree about the football and don’t know why they would want to increase it to 48 teams next time and dilute the offering however the time of year was just not for me - the World Cup is a summer event and should never be moved to this time of year again.

It was like one of those nights out you’re invited on and you really don’t fancy it, turns out one of the best nights you’ve ever had !!

A week before it I had literally no interest, it’s ended up being the best World Cup I can remember, and certainly the best ever final.

Upsets, late drama, fantastic goals, it’s been an amazing spectacle.

I'm a big fan of the winter World Cup.

Players all fit as it's mid season. I think this has a lot to do with the exceptional football we've been treated to.

I'd say it was the best World Cup ever although this might be persuaded by working from home :0)

don't need to add anything. Been a great spectacle and I really don't see how anyone could say otherwise.

It wouldn't dilute it at all there are some great players and nations who didn't qualify

Norway, Columbia, Italy, Egypt etc etc

I'll admit the timing of the tournament didn't sit right with me being mid season. In hindsight I was wrong. We as a team needed the time out to regroup and watching world Cup games whilst it was snowing outside was really great.

Yes, I'll put my hands up too Herts.

All the other politics to the side, before the comp I was of the opinion that World Cup finals should be held in the summer, the summer and nothing but the summer.

I can't say I watched too much of it for one reason or another but it clearly went down well with just about everybody and a great final this afternoon despite it being freezing on the Gold Coast.

Proves that to be truly a WC you have to allow it to be held in winter now and again.
That brings Africa into play as hosts and other south Equator countries.

It's been brilliant and the two best players in the tournament the club they play for is Qatar owned stick that doomongers.

Yep, been brilliant.
I did the forum’s fantasy football, would recommend it to everyone for the next Euro’s, it gives you a vested interest in loads of the ‘lesser’ nation's games.

OP tbf called it from the start even though he got slaughtered by the hard of thinking, the narrow minded, the closet racists, the know alls, the fogeys, the “traditionalists”, the Arab fearers etc etc

It has been great and if you want Football to be spread globally and grow you can’t limit the tournament to OUR Summer …..we don’t own the game

Loved the football and the nuances of the different nations but then again I always do. And Roy Keane. Best final I've seen including 1970. Let's see what comes out of the woodwork regarding Infantino and his crooked chums and let's see what happens to billions worth of white elephant assets built by bonded labour.

I ain’t bothered what happens with the stadiums afterwards mate

Yeah it was a great World Cup. 4 games a day in the group stages whilst working from home was a highlight!! I also enjoyed a winter World Cup where you don’t feel like you are missing a hot day outdoors when watching Japan beat Germany.

Great tournament, fantastic final.

Won't be the first mega sporting event where the infra goes to waste pal. Beijing, Barcelona, Melbourne etc1. This is some scale though. I hope for the next WC we end up in the Mexico based group. Really fancy that 👍

Wish I could have got into but didn’t from the start. tried and managed to get it there for the France game but ever since we got knocked out, I lost complete interest. Roll on Euro 2024 when hopefully my buzz will return as it’ll be summer

it was brilliant Phil enjoyed it from start to finish and what a game to finish!

For me the best football in a final I ve ever seen. Fast fair and furious
I wonder if the air con helped it ?
All we need now is a "Messi" type in the Pool UTMP

Loads of shock results, some great goals and exciting games, and the final didn't disappoint and was probably the best of the lot for drama. So definitely one of the best.
All that said, I definitely don't like a winter world cup.

The one made of 974 shipping containers has been sold to Mexico.
Last I heard Uruguay were having them. Put their tears in them from not getting that Cavani pen.

Watching the final I'm convinced more than ever that international football just isn't for England. But we do provide a handy platform for these teams to send their lads over to toughen them up and learn a trade.

We're still lacking in what truly makes a winner, I think. Fighting spirit and sheer bloody mindedness for the cause of Argentina, strength in depth and technical adaptability of the French players and manager. And two of the best players in the world who you can forget are there but then suddenly make a massive difference in the blink of an eye.

As for a winter World Cup in Qatar. It's all bought and paid for and the media and personalities in the game have been very on message about it. You only have to look back at the jealous reaction locally when they did by those who surround them to see that they were buzzing when they knew they'd stolen a march as the Scrappy Doo of the region. But unlike club football you can't buy what happens on the pitch at international level (apart from some of the obvious artificial help Messi got along the way to get his moments in). So no wonder that football and the stories it can tell when it's just a sport came to the forefront in the end. When it's done well it makes you forget about all the shit in your life for a minute or two.

I haven't got to see every minute of it, but in a time where everything is tomorrow's chip paper as so many things now grab your attention I think I will likely still remember some of it (apart from Kane's second pen) in time and that's good. I'm not sure it inspires an entire region afterwards, but things definitely happened.

Very good World Cup purely from a football viewpoint. The playing conditions have actually looked better than in most summer World Cups I would think.
For me the refs have let a lot go, and have not used too many cards. The football has flowed as a result.
The flip side of that is you can let the cheats prosper and get a lot of injustice, but I don’t think we have seen too much of that.
VAR has been for the most part fairly low profile, and the lengthy periods of extra time have cut out a lot of the timewasting which so often spoils games 👍.

Best final I’d agree .

Best tournament ever? Sorry have to disagree.

Far too many off field incidents linked with the corruption surrounding it all it wasn’t for me.👎

As l said yesterday best WC final I’ve seen but not as good a game as the Pickering hat trick or beating Cardiff at Wembley, just saying!
