Big call from Big Mick.

I think this goes to show how vital pre-seasons are. Changing managers mid-season and post recruitment is always risky. I just hope the board are already narrowing down the candidates for next season to ensure that person gets in early enough.

Master stroke second half .... we were getting over run until those changes
Well done Big Mick
Your joking right? 🤔

Idiotic changes from McCarthy!

We got over run for the rest of the game AFTER the changes! Brings on three defenders FFS leaving no outball. Just inviting waves of Stoke attacks!

If he's taking off Poveda and Rogers then he has to bring on Bowler at that point (or lavery) to support Jerry.

Those substitutions were ridiculous, could make a case for Thompson but Garbutt in midfield??? Makes no sense all goal threat from us just vanished at that point and yes I know we hung on but bleeding hell. And that was on 60 mins!! Poveda and Rogers weren’t knackered they were playing well but if he was that desperate to get a back 5 ok bring Thompson on but why take them both off? Stoke weren‘t great at the back but blimey CJ at centre forward give me strength. He got away with it Big Mick, I like the bloke but god he’s negative in his substitutions and obstinate in not playing Bowler

I liked his substitutions today. I thought all of the subs contributed and we looked more solid after they were made. Tactically, even moving CJ up alongisde Jerry could have been a masterstroke if Jerry had got a basic ball right late on when CJ was sure to outpace the defender. I also thought our game management was spot on for the last 10 minutes. Today we saw exactly why MM can deliver the great escape...

nope, Stoke were far more dangerous before the subs. And having CJ alongside Jerry meant there were two out balls even though CJ was poor. Was baffled when I saw who the three coming on were as they were all basically full backs but the manager got it spot on with Garbutt sitting out wide in front of Thompson and same with Gabriel on otherside.

I was fuming when i saw those subs at whenever it was, 60 minutes ish. I said immediately it was asking for trouble and way way to defensive considering how much time was left.

I was wrong and happy to admit it. Wherher you agree with big Mick as an appointment or not what he does have is an in depth knowledge of this division. You dont manage for that many games at this level if you don’t have a certain amount of nous and acumen.

He made subs today that solidified pur position and pretty comfortably held on. Credit where its due because i imagine he would have known the reaction from supporters if it went wrong.

I’m actually happy to have a manager who has the balls to make big calls. Credit where its due.

I love how people are saying he removed all our attacking threat when he made the subs.....exactly what threat was that? It's not like we were knocking on the door was it? We didn't need to have much of a threat, we already had the lead. I know our fans aren't used to that, but we needed to protect what we had, and it was totally justified because we won. If he'd left it and we'd conceded because of Poveda or Rogers not tracking back, MM would've been given dogs abuse. We all know it's true.

At the end of the day it worked, so well done to MM on this occasion
onwards and upwards!

The attack was none existent when the subs were made . Bowler has been clocked not coming back as much as he should and we were winning the game for once . You must be blind if you think we were still looking like scoring . The right thing was done and the result proved it. We had luck admittedly , but keeping ineffective forwards on when winning is just silly.

Pretty much our only threat after our goal was the sitter which CJ missed. That threat came about because we had two men up front down the middle. Jerry on his own and that situation would have been dealt with comfortably.

You are kidding

They were getting on top

He made a big call

He got it right

Had we not had 5 defenders on they would have equalised

Totally agree, we won despite the subs not because of them, credit to mick for the team selection at the start though, imagine this board if we’d have lost after taking off 3 of our best players

if,if if, but we didn't. The changes worked today so credit the manager. I've given him enough stick these last few weeks but today he deserves credit. Stoke weren't the threat they were prior to the subs and we created our only chance after the subs were made.

I thought they were idiotic subs ..... I was proved wrong that's why I'm sat in the stands and MM is managing the team, we were a lot better after them.

Maxwell was phenomenal today by the way...

I would say we played better after the subs, and we even had more chances which is ** mental seeing as it was 5 at the back!

The subs worked in the circumstances, just.

The main thing is that result.

However we have to find a way to relieve pressure and have more of the ball and more of our own threat if we are to keep winning games.

Clueless armchair manager, we have a lot of them don’t we?

I’m giving him credit and the if, if, ifs are just personal opinions, it turned out well but it seemed Graysons tactics were back, also I disagree that stoke weren’t as much as a threat after the subs, I felt more nervous

I’m sure we won.
Yes We did, but it could have been a disaster. We were playing the best football since the early goal. And he takes off 2 front men and a midfielder for 3 defensive players.
Normally I'm all for making early substitutions in the hope of changing games. And moan like mad when the substitution is made with 10 or less minutes left. However today winning and being on top at the time with 30 minutes left gave the initiative to them. But we got the win and a vital 3 points, still don't have a great deal of faith in the gaffer. UTMP

I think it only natural to feel more nervous the longer the game goes on and the closer to the final whistle you get.

Yes we did. But come on, you know I know you do 😀5 mins to go fair enough but 60 mins had gone. And any chance of scoring again went at that point. Yes we hung on but the substitutions weren’t the reason
Not strictly true we nearly broke away through Jerry and CJ twice and should have actually won 2-0 in the end

The subs were a masterstroke. Stoke were absolutely dominating out wide and bringing on pacey full backs who can make a header and adding another body in midfield in to put themselves about helped to nullify that attack and forced Stoke to play long balls from deep.

McCarthy was spot on. Before those subs I thought a Stoke goal was inevitable. Afterwards they still dominated the game but looked a lot less threatening

Looked like we had a lot of tired legs out there and the subs brought more energy to the side. We will have to utilise a lot of players for the remaining games.

None sense Poveda and Rodger’s were done in. Sooooo obvious

Agreed but it wasn’t to shore things up with 10/15 minutes to go, it was half an hour, typical Grayson tactics but all that matters is the result obviously, I just felt that 2 defenders and bowler would have been enough to get us through with at least an opportunity to get the second goal

Yes we did. But come on, you know I know you do 😀5 mins to go fair enough but 60 mins had gone. And any chance of scoring again went at that point. Yes we hung on but the substitutions weren’t the reason
CJ should have made it 2

When I saw that triple change I thought WTF are we up to here. It worked though.

Luke Garbutt in a left of central midfield role…

All that mattered was the 3 points. Big win that today.

Not sure on CJ as a Centre forward though 😵‍💫

Correct. Amazing people go and watch football and can’t understand basic tactics
