Big Sam back at Bloomfield Road?

It goes back to a thread on here from a few weeks back, about the immediacy of everything now. Instant success required, no time to build anything.

All very sad. Capable managers get potted after months not years, and it becomes a merry go round, with the only alternative to go to the likes of Allardyce to mount one of his rescue missions. Achieves it, moves on, someone else comes in then goes again and round we go again.

We should be thankful we're not in that situation, because the majority of clubs - those who are chasing anything - are.

We know Allardyce has a reputation for digging Clubs out of the relegation pit but I think Baggies fans might be a tad underwhelmed with that appointment.

According to fat Sam anyway 😆
And me! 😆

We were great under Sam. And my 'friends' who support Bolton are massive fans - they had Campo! And Okocha, and Djorkaeff. All paid for by money that all got written off for the loss of 15 points!

He is a tit but he's a proven manager and if anyone can drag West Brom out of it, he can.

His style isn't my cuppa at all but I can see why those upstairs at West Brom would fancy him for the job.

What the hell do clubs like west Brom think they're going to do in the Prem?
That division is split into 3, the top 8 will be battling what European trophy they'll play for, bottom 8 will always be fighting against relegation and a middle 4 team that just exist as a premier league club.

WBA will nearly always be a bottom 8 club with a cup run to look forward to, but obviously even that's in jeopardy this season😉

I've nothing against baggies fans but just to shove it up their directors I hope they eventually get relegated this season .

Can’t stand the bloke, really don’t understand the football merry go round for the same old tired managers in this country.
Scara - because you and me, and I'm sure nearly all of us on here, have a good feel for the style we want to see played. Club owners probably do to, until they realise that they're in the bottom third and in danger of losing the untold riches, after which they panic and look for a way to save themselves at any cost. And so they find someone with a proven track record for it, which is fully understandable of course, and Allardyce's is probably the best.

All short term blinkered plastering over cracks in favour of keeping the prize money rolling in. Sad but inevitable, given the disproportionate size of the reward on offer.

The strange thing for me has always been, last 2 months of the season notwithstanding when the team went into its collective shell, the stuff we played under him was quite decent.

I get it, I just don’t like it. I would like to see a chairman just once show some conviction in his decisions even if it means there’s a few bumps in the road.

Lots of sackings, lots of massive payments for jobs uncompleted, and beyond him, and then there is his disgraceful tenure at England were he was in residence for a few days before the FA realised what a dodgy fooker he was. Which he was at Pool according to some. Remind me how many trophies he won with those imports mentioned at Bolton. In face he hasn't won anything of note has he? But yeah I see what you mean 😆

Fully with you mate. I'm one of the ones who hoped SS would stick with NC, for that reason. Get the right person in and see it through, not recycle every 10-12 months.

Bally you're right, and in a way that kind of illustrates how sad everything's got. Allardyce has won very little, and his football brand, at least since he became a top flight manager, is generally regarded as low on entertainment, to put it politely.

But owners would sooner go for that and continued Prem money, than build for long term objectives.

Wizzerboy
I’ll bet a lot of other teams supporters were saying that about us when we get in the top flight.
They got there on merit, as simple as that and any team that gets there through good management and results (as opposed to getting there by default) deserve it.
Bradford, Blackburn, Wimbledon, Oldham, Luton, Blackpool, Bolton, Burnley, Hull, Bournemouth, (to name a few) have all got there and I do not understand the animosity towards these clubs. Good luck to them as far as I am concerned and if Sam Allardyce does take over and saves them then it will be regarded as a good move by the directors.

Did you actually read my post or just the last sentence 🤷‍♂️?

Stereotypical Big Sam analysis IMO. He kept them in the EPL for a good while, regularly turned over the big sides and they qualified for Europe. Notlob!

Bit of a dodgy fooker, obviously. But name an English manager who has won anything?

Allardyce shouldn’t be allowed within a million miles of any football ground.

He’s a self serving git who hasn’t got an ounce of integrity.

I can’t abide the bloke, and would never support a team he was involved with.

Don't beat about the bush. Maybe go and see a shrink?

You did state he was one of the best if not the best of the last 30 years! I thought maybe you were having a laugh hence my comedic response. He can hardly be that can he with his dearth of real success. I think he was found out big time when his Bolton were put to the sword 5-0 by Stoke in the FA Cup semi final some years back. Seemed to change his M/O after that complete humiliation.

Fireman Sam might be able to rescue a club with his tactical nouse for not losing too many with ultra defensive tactics. He may save WBA if he goes there, but his run of playing the reliable saviour of Premier status for the desperate may have run its course. He will still line his pockets whatever happens.

But best English manager of the last 30 years 😮

So you weren’t a Nobber 1986-89 then? Or again in 1992?

You haven't named a better one?

We weren't ultra defensive under Sam. Neither were Bolton tbh. Fallacy.

A certain Brian Clough?

Off the top of my head.

Howard Kendall
Tim Sherwood
Kevin Keegan
Bryan Robson
Harry Redknapp
Eddie Howe
Bobby Robson
Frank Lampard
Not sure how many of those have been better than Sam in the last 30 years? Or won anything? Bobby Robson probably - but with better resources.

Good lad Giro, I take it that means you will be supporting us against the Baggies in the FA Cup third round and don't worry your secret's safe with me.😅

Curryman,

The question is. Will I be supporting either side?😉

PS If I had a secret. It would be safer announcing it on the BBC news headlines, than telling you!😄

Otherwise known as cheating!
Nothing against West Brom but I hope he does as well as that other relic dug up from the dinosaurs graveyard, Pulis.

Good time to bring Allardyce. Long enough for them to sack him in February and bring in Pardew for the run in.

We should have gone up automatically in 95/96 but he bottled it and from Easter on , went completely defensive and cost us. If we'd carried on playing as we had previously then I'd sort of agree with you. As it is, I can't abide him, and his every utterance since has been self serving at best.

PS Jason Euell couldn't abide him either.

I understand that, but he's a better manager than he gets credit for. Much better.
