Blackburn goal

Yes I realise that, hence the question. Just watched it back, he ghosted Marvin on the blind side. Williams played him on

A great example of how to break, straight down the middle of the pitch making the scoring opportunity much easier. If it had been one of our forwards in the same position they would have headed out wide as we always seem to do.

If we’d not got Williams from Liverpool he’d be out of the team by now. Aside from his lack of pace, his positional sense is dreadful. Marv is constantly covering him, but it never happens the other way round, with the defence shifting across.

Bottom line we have Thommo, Marv and Gabriel, 3 of the best in the division. The problem is obvious and we have better options at left CB.

Williams is absolute fkn dogshite and I can see now why Swansea hardly played him.
He looks like a rabbit in the headlights at times. His positional play is dreadful. He’s got no pace, makes passes to teammates that are aimed at their weaker foot (basic stuff really). I saw him having a shout at Grimmy on one occasion, then he was waving his hands around like someone having a hissy fit. He also shouted something to some of the fans in the north (who btw are pathetic for baiting him like that).
And he missed the target with a free header near the end.
I would have Keogh, Grétarsson, Thorniley, Husband in front of him. That’s at least a dozen times now this season when he’s played someone onside or been too slow to react to a simple ball down the middle. This is the kind of stuff you see happening in League Two - free 1v1 runs on goal.

It’s bizarre because he obviously has some talent as he’s played for Liverpool… but either he’s got a lack of confidence, or he’s carrying an injury, or he’s just fizzling out like some players seem to do once they hit the early twenties.

We had such a high line, just like against Burnley and Bristol City. I think this needs looking into.

Totally agree and do wonder about why managers dislike Thorniley so much?!
think it's just because he's two or three inches shorter than a lot of centre halves. I'm not Thornileys biggest fan but Williams has had a few shockers of late and so maybe Thorniley or Husband should be given a chance.
