Blackpool is ‘godawful’

All that levelling up and decades of investment have really helped then?
When London Gov ministers come visiting, you have to wonder what they are looking at to take of US NORTHERNERS, to supplement Southerner's. LOL

In fairness, she also included Birmingham which is bloody awful!
Of course the fact she's done conferences in these places means she hasn't been to places like Burnley and Blackburn which would be lucky to host a virus!

Mrs Wheeler................is reported to have said: "I was just at a conference in Blackpool or Birmingham or somewhere godawful."

If she can't tell the difference between Blackpool and Birmingham, I'll give her a couple of clues.
Blackpool is by the sea.
In Birmingham, everyone has a speech impediment.

I was only thinking how amazing the prom looked these days when it appeared on BBC breakfast news telling me the porcine charlatan was appearing in the locality. Amazing how prejudice sticks when repeated over and over again without thought.

A lot of it is especially round the town centre which is just getting worse. The difference with me saying that though is I'm not the one in a government that has slashed funding and services to the area whilst making big statements about levelling up whilst still cutting even more services.

She looks just like the type you might see down on the prom. Maybe she didn't realise she was looking in the mirror.

She has apologised and said she didn't mean it. Time to draw a line under this and to move onShe is only sorry
"Apologising on Friday, Mrs Wheeler tweeted: "Whilst speaking at a conference on Thursday, I made an inappropriate remark that does not reflect my actual view." But it does reflect your actual view Mrs Wheeler. It is the apology which is disingenuous.

Disrespectful and doesn’t take account of the regeneration and investment currently going on around the town. Not including the work which will start at Revoe and which the Club are heavily committed too!

Yet another out of touch MInister

To be fair, looking at certain areas of Blackpool, she has a point . . . but the same could be said of Preston, Blackburn, Burnley, Bolton or pretty much any large town in the country

This apology once they realised what a ** they are doesn’t wash.

She looks like she's been beaten with an ugly stick all her life

I'm sorry, that's not my real thoughts at all.

Nah she looks a nice bloke tbf.

So, what did she mean ? I want an answer to what she said and why she said it.

And for the rest of the Tories MPs:
1. Why do you support a person 'Leader' who is a blatant liar
2. Same as 1. but is a law breaker
3. Always apologise but never mean it
4. Openly blame everybodsy but themselves for all inadequacies

How the hell can someone keep a job as a politician if they admit that what they say is not their actual view?!!!!

It's not whether Blackpool & Birmingham have run down areas that matters here. She is a Government Minister and must know full well that comments she makes will be reported. If those weren't her views why say them? She's not a novice at public speaking. It looks like the same old story with this Government: an apology only follows after being found out.

Along with many places investment is urgently needed, this Heifer typifies what a lot of sneering Tories & some others too actually think. Put her in the stocks, along with Billy Liar.

Birm

What do you base your view of Birmingham on? Selfridges, Harvey Nichols, four restaurants with Michelin stars

What’s not to like ?

1 Fresh sea air
2.Lovely tower
3.Great beach
4.Fantastic football club
5. One of the most popular towns in the country to visit

She must have got us confused with Preston

Lots of areas look utterly terrible. The reason is poverty, and its two horsemen; crime and drugs.

The state has the ability to fix that, but it won't do so as long as we persist with a liberal democracy that views ordinary people as a resource to be exploited rather than a nation to be cherished, supported and protected.

In the preamble to her speech, she told the audience: “I was at a conference at, I dunno, Blackpool or Birmingham, somewhere godawful,” before telling an anecdote about a hiccup she had with a lectern on stage.

That's a junior minister who should never be responsible for anything more than issuing cloakroom tickets.

Blackpool has been neglected for many years by the politicians. They need to start taking responsibility and properly invest in the town .Her words are cheap and nasty.
We've had our investment in tourism it's about time the council invested in other industries with better skilled jobs instead of attracting dossers to the town to work for £6 an hour. It's not rocket science but labour will be kept in power relying on low paid workers voting for them

This town is transforming and will be a different place in 10 years time with the airport back open, all achieved under a labour council. The town ended up fecked after decades of Tory neglect.

Especially if the Revoe village plan happens.
