Blackpool tops post-lockdown footfall recovery list

Good to hear. Blackpool is a great place to visit. Cheers me up when I just see a picture or video of the Town.
I wish I could agree 100% with you. Some parts of the town centre really, really let it down.

The state of Talbot Road & Dixon Road is an absolute disgrace. Smack heads/Spice heads & alcoholics sat dossing all over the place, causing chaos. Saw a woman threaten to slash another woman up outside Herons yesterday, in front of families walking past. The streets around that area are dirty and don't look like street cleaning ever clean them.

Lets put it this way, if I'd brought the missus and my 2 young kids and had to subject them to walk down Talbot Road or Dixon Road, I'd be furious with what my kids would have to see. I work in town so I see this every single day.

Like you, I love to see the town in a good way but it's not always possible. Having said all that town is absolutely rammed today so it's not all bad

Sad to say but yeah it's hard to disagree. Think we've got a promenade to be proud of but you don't need to go far from the prom to see the state of decay basically running from the Pleasure Beech all the way to Gynn Square. It needs billions of pounds investment which will start with demolishing great swathes of it.

Saying it how it is Lytham. I see it every day. If you look I said it was regrettable to say it. The truth hurts obviously.

The council have a lot to answer for.

Correct.

I love what they've done to the prom. Sadly tourists and away fans see what's directly behind it and it's not nice to see.

Yes, we all know, it's not exactly amazing insight and has been said a thousand times before, so why pollute a positive thread about the town with it?

No one is denying there is this element and it needs dealing with, plus other good elements not often mentioned outside those dodgy areas, but this is a thread about the increased footfall and it being good for the town bouncing back.

It’s a shithole, no point in trying to big it up. The front is great, but behind the scenes it’s awful
Unfortunately the worst areas is in a central area so its more visible than most towns. There's also nice areas like near Stanley Park, hospital, area's of FY4 also around Squires Gate etc, North Blackpool areas like near the golf course etc.

The central area brings it down and needs addressing. But lets have the full picture.

Also again were on about the town bouncing back from the toughest times ever and its bounced back beyond its pre covid levels.

I'm thinking nobody is wrong on the thread, just different ways of saying the same thing and we all wants what's best for the town.

Great to see the numbers and still plenty to do.

Totally agree, and glad it’s doing well, but there’s no point in building 5 star hotels and expecting 5 star tourists with that central area as it is, because if they come in the first place, they won’t come back and reviews will be poor.

I’m not qualified to advise how to change it, but something needs to be done.

Take a look on You Tube at Blackpool vlogger A Walk On The Wild Side video The Street Of Shutters to see the ruin and desolation on Bond St. South Shore.

It's a mixed picture but if you compare the allure of Blackpool to most places it still has that bit of magic to it. The tower looked fabulous last night as I was walking back to my car. Earlier, Central Drive looked grim and hopelessly run down, but there again it wasn't that clever when I was a kid in town 50 odd years ago. The chippy near the ground seems to have gone out of business, which is a shame. Hopefully our rise and rise plus the resurgance in UK breaks will help kickstart a better future for the Gold Coast. The other day I even saw an article in the Guardian listing Cleveleys as one of Air BandB's top ten trending destinations! See linky link 🏝️ 🚀👍

Seen his videos many are in a good light hit others show the worst.

For balance on YouTube I'll give you seaside, building Blackpool better, lovely man who focuses on mainly town centre but also other improvements.

The town centre has made many improvements.

Its always been a town of the highest highs and the lowest lows.

Something needs doing about dossers and scum.

But first the town needed to bounce back and be busier than ever. The more money coming in the more can be diverted to improvements and dealing with social problems etc.

When I first took my other half to Blackpool (she's a southerner) we walked done the prom to the pleasure beach. She was blown away by how nice it is. We walked back a couple of streets back and she was horrified. You are right about the scale of what's needed.

Because if you take the rose tints off its not all hunky dory.

I have to walk past the shit staines in society every day. Nothing is done. I read on other fans forums that Blackpool is a shit hole. It hurts and I used to defend the town even though I knew I was never going to win.

Again sorry if my negative point of view ruins the thread (I'm not on my own)

Maybe start a 'only say nice things about Blackpool town centre' thread and you won't get so upset with ones like this.

I give up.

For the best pal
So now you've gone from 'Prophet of the Streets' to 'Condescending Knob'.

Quite the evening.

'Hey, here's a good news story about the town!'

'Wait, the town is shit, I have brand new insights to bring you'

'But we just wanted to read something positive?'

'Tough, for I am reporting never before heard opinion that the town is really rather scruffy, this will blow any good news story away, I take no pleasure in this task.'

'OK, thanks Mr Pullitzer Prize, we were completely unaware and now all good news stories are forever tainted, good job you're here to stop us feeling any warmth for our home town.'

'No problem, it's just what I do, some of us are there on the front lines, for I am Lewis Winthorpe, seeker of truth. I am currently working on a new story that those cute puppies you see actually shit all over your house and chew cables, it will blow your optimistic minds'

The town is busy and doing well at the moment, so fuck right off you miserable twats 👍

Once travel abroad becomes cheaper and more easy, it will be interesting to see if the bounce back continues. Let's hope so.

@Mark_GT completely agree about the tower last night. Fantastic.

If you say so Lytham. If what you say makes you happy pal.

Blackpool has no problems. Nothing to see here

The fact is though if like a lot of towns and cities the worse parts were at the edge of town or somewhere you wouldn't notice it as much.

Because its central its more noticeable.

I'm not sure how to solve it but there must be some ways.

Every town has issues some not on as full display as ours.

With the town booming at least people can get some money back in their pockets. Thats a start. Tackling crime, coming down on layabouts and freeloaders harder to try and make then work, redevelop the centre more and more to try and raise prices there and if not solve the problem maybe move it onto a less visible place. Idk.

But one things for sure, its good people are visiting in numbers.

If we used to have 18 million people visiting, with the increases in % it could be 20 million at this level if it remained consistent for the full season. Thats pretty staggering.

Ok 'pal'

Talbot Road, Dixon Road, Central Drive for example are thriving. No smack heads in sight. Everything is fine.

Blackpool is buzzing. It's like Vegas but posher. Spice isn't a thing. Drugs, alcohol and mass poverty aren't a thing.

The prom is rammed. Everything is fine.Away fans at Bloomfield Road sing 'Blackpool is beautiful I don't want to go home

Happy days. Over and out. Nothing to see here apart from how great the town is. Not in the top 10 doss holes of the country

Agree with a lot of what you say. Thing is how can it be sorted. I love this town to a point. I see how run down it has become since I was a kid and it saddens me. The town has great points to it. Fantastic sea front all the way from Star Gate to Cleveleys but then the good things end.

The back streets are rank. For everything good I want to say there's so many negatives.

We know all this, it was one ** positive story, we didn't need yet another description on how bad the town is.

As I was walking back towards Lune Grove under the out of action streetlights a good pillar of the BFC community leading her kids home shouted "look out - dogshit!" This could not be more timely as I had an 80 mile car journey back to Wirral to negotiate and her eagle eyes saved not only her kids from tramping it through the house, it saved me from one of those dog toffee on the accelerator pedal fiascos that can really put a crimp in your evening 🏝️ 😗👍

Redevelopment, more jobs in the town, policing.

Even a lick of paint etc, make it look better and feel different.

Theres 10,000 trees being planted and they have done some a lot in other areas where there is already grass like verges.

The quick wins for planting trees are easy but some central areas as part of redevelopment will at least look better done up then you work on the social problems. Where its harder and needs more greenery is where they may have to do more ground works.

Weve seen the town crente improvements and they continue.

Obviously there's the central car park chariot of the gods redevelopment.

Theres this one..

Theres been lots of improvements to shop fronts etc like this for eg

The Talbot gateway projects, winter Gardens conference centre.

Also heres a central drive improvements of of those bad areas.

If the club and council do the above it improves the areas round Bloomfield.

Theres tons happening, lots of town centre improvements, it'll take time.

Like I've said a lick of paint to some would improve the image if not the wealth of the area.
Jobs is key and this blackpool airport enterprise zone should help a bit.

So theres a ton of things, town centre based a lot yes but if the town is booming and money flowing we can keep funding more redevelopment in other areas, create jobs and slowly begin to turn things around again.

A few more improvements from a thread a while back here.

Also I've often thought what about a go fund me setup or something or just the council do it, for painting those back streets of Blackpool like this maybe

Does it solve the issues? No. Does it look a hell of a lot better to passers by, yes and is relatively cheap.

The thing that bothers me most in this thread is Dixon Rd.

It's DICKSON.

If it's such a shithole why do so many millions flock here every year.

Because they are coming from their shithole, it doesn’t matter if they are from Manchester,Liverpool, Lancs or the rest of the UK there are run down area's everywhere.

What you get in is tons of great attractions in a short distance and the gems of Winter Gardens and Stanley Park etc.
Blackpool is a fantastic place to live and I wouldn't live anywhere else.
