Blackpool v Blackburn Official Matchday Thread 02.10.21

I like Mowbray. He was WBA manager when I worked there. Very decent, straight guy.
My best mate in France is a M'Boro fan. He thinks Mowbray is God.

What happened in the H/T Critchley talk?
The team played a different game after H/T.
OK we had a couple of bad injuries, but we'd been poor from the very start of the 2nd half.
Maybe he told them to defend our lead? We should have been trying to extend it.

two dickheads who'd rather have a pop than offer anything constructive..
Keshi played very well today especially first half. Second half was simply about graft and defending what we had.

An interesting but sad piece by our Jack Gaughan about Tyrhys and his friend, Jeremy Wisten, who committed suicide 12 months ago.

Almost brought me to tears, that. Dolan looks a very good player-particularly for one so young. Having read that, I'll keep an eye out for his progress.

That is one tragic story. So very sad. His best mate, who had clearly hoped to emulate a ‘Raheem Sterling like’ career, is released by City. God knows how he must have felt. Clearly, desperately depressed. Life can truly kick you in the teeth at times. RIP Jeremy. 😥

Sterling was fantastic. I thought Garbutt had an excellent game. Two lads who came along with us and didn't know any of our players picked out Marv. Dougall and Wintle are forming a good partnership. Keshi set up both goals, again.
agree. Garbutt hit some sublime passes down the line. Everyone did really well in the first half. Second half was sloppy starting with Marv not dealing properly with the ball by the corner flag. Thought second half he was not at his best and probably missed Keoghs guidance. Second half was really all about graft and to everyones credit we restricted them to very few if any clear opportunities. Thought their only way of scoring would be a set piece.

On radio Lancs commutator just said before start of game that pyrotechnics are being let off

Sniffer dogs must be having a bad day
Prob all the coke they sniffed looking for pyrotechnics. If only they had brought the drug squad dogs too

Dujon MOM for me by a mile. Absolutely beast of a performance. Him, Ekpiteta, Keogh and Garbutt are proving to be a good back 4. Need to get Keogh back fit ASAP. Who'd have thought that a few weeks ago.
At the start of the second half Husband was running around like the proverbial headless chicken. He then settled down somewhat. However, when Keogh plays he is starting to be less noticeable, simply because he knows where to be and when.

Yep. My brother, who goes, says Keogh reads the game so well.

Lavery going off, then Keogh not coming out for the second half was a big blow. Husband is not a centre half, he looked small and lightweight next to Diaz. Marv didn't look quite as confident without Keogh - he's a massive influence( My apologies to him following my comments after the Coventry game) and has really shown why he is a leader. He didn't put a foot wrong in the first half. Blackburn taking the young lad off who had a nightmare plus them upping their game after half-time meant we were under the cosh. Maxwell going off also meant we couldn't wind the clock down with a sub or get fresh legs on.
Second half was hard to watch and it felt like 2-2 was on the cards, every credit to the team for digging in.

they came out fired up, obviously having been read the riot act, got right in our faces and didnt let up. in most respects they did exactly to us in the second half what we did to them in the first, didnt let us settle and fought for everything, the fact that our defence performed so well should be an encouraging sign to everyone. Unlike Fulham Blackburn stuck to the task of trying to play around and through us rather than just lumping balls forward, which is what fulham did and made it easy for our defence that day. Just take it s a very good win.

That is a very sad read, poor young fella! Dolan was very impressive on Saturday

We defended brilliantly second half against a completely different Rovers team. Husband played his part, coming on cold in the middle of a very tough game.

Rovers fan since 1967 , seem some bad , good and great times .

Although I didn’t attend on Saturday my son reported back . Typical of many Rovers performances under Tony Mowbray. Flattered to deceive as we have some very talented players , but TM’s tactics , plan , organisation is found wanting again ( as it was at Huddersfield) . However I’m more than happy with an unexpected return of 16 points from 11 games , so can’t complain

Great to see Blackpool on the up. Good start to the season for you ( probably as unexpected as ours? ) , your manager deserves all the plaudits . Sounds like he outsmarted TM on Saturday, certainly in the first forty five .

I’m one of those old fashioned fans who loves to see the traditional Lancashire town derby games . It’s good that Blackpool , Preston and Rovers are in the same league . I’d be more than happy if Burnley and Bolton joined next season .

Back to the match . Blackpool and Rovers have two of the most iconic and traditional kits in English football and such a pity that Rovers wore their change kit on Saturday. Tangerine against Blue and White Halves on the same pitch , takes some beating !

One last comment , my son was incredibly impressed with the atmosphere your fans created on Saturday, the best he’s heard on his away trips ( since he started watching Rovers away three years ago ) and felt it played a big part in getting your team over the line .

Look forward to the return match at Ewood 👍

Did you not think they were dirty?

Thought they were clever with it but constantly fouling - impeding, pulling, knees,,kicks.
It was throughout the whole game. You only missed out the nudges off balance just before the ball got there, otherwise you said it perfectly.

I haven't witnessed a 45 minutes for years like our first half. It was simply magical. T'rovers piled on the pressure in the second half and the last minute save from Moore was superb. I know that had we beaten Hull, we could have been a point above Blackburn, but somehow, in my mind, I don't think we would have won on Saturday.
Them two dropped points could turn out well for us, and I still feel that we will get promotion again this season. Onwards and upwards for The Mighty Pool. 🧡
