Blackpool v Cambridge United Official Matchday Thread 06.04.24

A win, a goal but that was just more evidence of our failings. Byers was probably the pick but to play a whole 45 minutes against an utterly hopeless side without a single decent effort on target is criminal. Picking 2 of Beesley, Kouassi, Lavery and Joseph is like rearranging broken deckchairs on the Titanic. All of them struggle to read the game, hold the ball up or link with their strike partner. Without Rhodes we are so poor in that final 3rd.
Why 'broken' deckchairs? Sounds rather a damning indictment of such an illustrious quartet. I think 'rickety' deckchairs would have come across as a more charitable reference ...

How do we get Critchley out? Just boycott again?

None of the four above can get the ball under control and as you say, hold the ball up

Glad we managed to win. But against that lot Jesus it was painful. The highlight of the game was the meat & potato pie. Which I was forced to get because I didn’t have time for a sandwich after walking the dog.

Nobody takes any notice of what you say.....you predicted a Cambridge win didn't you? Do us all a favour and take your
relentless negativity elsewhere.

Yes I did. I am actually shocked we won.

You call me negative but do you call the manager who plays three centre halves at home to Cambridge negative? Hypocrite.

I know it's a low bar but I thought first half was the best we've played for some time. Byers was at the centre of everything in midfield, crucially playing in their half. Carey in that inside left position linking up well with Coulson. Dembele looking dangerous getting in those pockets of space. Just a shame Rhodes wasn't available I am sure he would have made more of those low crosses to the near post.

Second half we stopped doing the things we had done well and Cambridge grew into the game. Strange substitutions, taking Coulson off who played well and switching CJ over to the left? I thought we needed Virtue on to reinforce midfield. Lavery is a shadow of the player who gave Championship defences a torrid time when he first joined, he seems incapable of holding up the ball or even running with the ball at his feet! It makes you wonder what they do in training all week.

Not a good enough performance. Some of the link up/build up play was half decent but we couldnt finish our chances Kouassi was horrific same with CJ but i'll take 3 points at home 🍊

2nd half was bloody awful 😞
Same old same old
You can’t possibly have two different halves without someone in the ear of the players.I’m just not buying that at all.

I was nodding off in the second half and half an hour after the game I went to have a nap and woke up 6 hours later. That second half was as bad as it has been, we are so boring, so shit and the manager has the team he deserves. I would love to see how these players got on if we had a manage who had some attacking tactics in his locker. Critchley is sucking the life out of this team, they must hate him as their manager.

Yep

I reckon many think like me, that he did ok - and I mean ok, not great.
But he has potential if coached, trained and developed properly.
He's a real unit.
Agreed. He held the ball up well. He was instrumental in the first goal. He was not given one chance to score by any of our players. When he went off there was simply no one to hold the ball up as he had been doing and we ended up under more pressure. For a big lad he has actually got a good touch .
