Blackpool v Charlton Official Matchday Thread 27.01.24

Very disappointing in the end how many chances do we need to put the ball in the net? I still can’t believe how Rhodes missed that absolute sitter?

We ran out of steam last 20 how is that? 🤷‍♂️

Harsh? We’re making the same mistakes and they are supposed to be professionals. Everyone has to learn but we are over halfway through the season and Sadler has supported him. No importance in being in control because frankly we have not been. They scored. Other teams have scored and we have not been in a playoff position all season. It is not about ability and everything about organization and players knowing what their role is in the team. We are substandard in pressing, in tackling and in closing opponents down. Our mistakes are so glaring that every team must fancy scoring against us and that is on Critchley. I would be livid and want answers if I was Sadler.
You’re talking shit! We should have won that easily but our finishing was poor. We didn’t take our chances. That’s not Critchley’s fault.

Relief to not lose that at the end as Charlton were always going to gain some of their confidence back whenever they scored and Alfie May is a pain in the arse to defend against.

Can't take your opportunities up the other end or if it just won't go in then that's how it is.

He isn’t. Good player who gets unfair criticism from people who don’t understand the game
But people, who do, apparently, have a clear grasp of the psychological condition known as 'ball phobia', which manifests itself by way of certain individuals exhibitating an irrational fear of spherical objects, such as footballs, for example. And, as is occasionally witnessed by the long-sufferring fans of sides making up the English Football League, it's a condition to be seen with increasing - and alarming - regularity amongst certain professional footballers plying their trade on a regular basis in the various leagues comprising the Uk domestic game. Mentioning no names ...

How we never won that ill never know although we could easily have lost it at the end

I thought would have been a gabs for cj but no... how his 2nd love child stayed on all game is beyond me. The simple things he puts us in trouble... so so frustrating..grrr

Bullshit. Look at today or any other game where the opponents have scored. Our inability to defend or score on a more regular basis is on the manager. What do you think his job is? On creating and better finishing what do you think training is for? Should have , could have, is the lackadaisical approach and mindset that got us relegated and wallowing in mid table mediocrity this season. Have some fire, passion and confidence. Reflect, adapt or pivot but don’t go through the motions.

Hit the post, crossbar, one cleared of the line and missed an open goal. But yes, blame the manager.

One of the best performances of the season, at least first 75 mins. Missed too many chances and they scrape a lucky goal.
And there you have Blackpool's season, really good performance and cannot capitalise on others faltering.
Whilst Oxford, who fucked up again throwing away the game, the likes of Stevenage, Pompy, Derby and Bolton all win. Barnsley also ballsed up, so it would have been a great 3 points today as 6th spot is the only realistic position in the playoffs available.
Can someone tell me when Stevenage are going to stumble and fade as they're still in the hunt.

It's ended massively disappointing today, hopefully, next time, it'll go our way🤷

Absolutely smashed them, missed open goal, hit post, crossbarr, one cleared off the line and they scored a fluke. None of this negative nonsense.

Table does not lie, we have given others a big headstart, but today's performance was very good.
if the start of the season your comments would be reasonable but we are over halfway through and still making the same mistakes, A good performance is a win. Nothing less at this stage.

It's been clear all season that we're nowhere near good enough for a promotion push.
It starts with our clueless Head Coach.
For next season we need a more dominant keeper, a centre back (to replace Ekpiteta), a better defensive midfielder than over the hill Norburn, 2 central midfielders (to replace Carey and Dembele) and 2 strikers who score goals (to replace Rhodes and Lavery)

Should have been a cricket score today. Too many missed chances. too much cruising when we should have been going for the jugular. we had decent spell of pressure but it consistently seemed that we still had a gear to step up to. Why take off Norburn on 87 minutes, what was Critchley hoping to achieve with that. Gabriel didn't have time to get into the game and we had decided to stop playing football and go all hoofy hoof hoof at that point anyway, which with a team of firggin giants again that wasnt going anywhere. these are the games that really disappoint me, because even with the decent performance for 60 minutes its still a bit - overly cautious or just a lack of appetite to really go for the kill.

Rubbish we are going up via the play offs awesome today save for the last 15 mins

We got 1 and they got 1 that's how we didn't win🤷

Same mistakes ... Mistakes were the performances away at Lincoln, Wycombe, Cambridge, Burton and Port Vale etc.. They were really really poor.

Some times in competitive sport you can play well, deserve to win and be unlucky. That was today. But of course over the course of the 46 game season the table won't lie. If we don't make the top 6 it will be those poor performances, not missing open goals today and conceding a very unfortunate deflection today.

Sorry, but you’re talking crap. We played some good stuff today and created plenty of chances which we should have put away. Critch can’t be be responsible for strikers making mistakes when they cross the white line! He’s coached them to create the chances and put them in the back of the net!

What happened to us when we conceded. Got to have a stronger mentality than that. Charlton were the only ones looking likely to score. I left on 84 minutes and just didn't want to see them scoring. Thankfully in the end we got a point. So sad after a great performance for the first 60.

Stop being a simpleton. World is full of n’er do well victims. It’s a results game and our table position states the facts. We are neither defending or attacking as a team and that is on the manager. We might still not win but organization and accountability is essential in any business.

You’re a moron if you’re blaming Critchley after that.
No sir judging by your ignorant response any moronic tendencies are clearly yours. I am talking about the comparative achievements of Critchley and Evatt. At the time we appointed Critchley we refused to even interview Evatt which I said seemed crazy at the time .With the benefit of hindsight even crazier now.

Try to engage your brain if that`s possible before coming on here.

Reactively reverting to “we should’ve gotten Evatt instead of Critch” immediately after a disappointing result is blaming Critch and throwing him under the bus.

Why the need to bring Evatt up? Negative, fingerpointing, BS.

“Try to engage your brain” you should heed your own advice, we’re still well in the hunt for Playoffs and just starting to play our best stuff, the world isn’t falling.

Unbelievable. Did we achieve our objective? Oh we missed this, hit that, so what??? Everyone has one of those days but we have had a litany of them both defending as a team and attacking as a team. It is the manager’s failure to address our repeated weaknesses that results in our being out of a playoff position or being undeniable like the table toppers. As a coach he’s not doing what he’s paid to do well enough.

Moan moan feckin moan, sometimes you don’t get what you deserve in a game, look at Ipswich . 4 wins and 3 draws in all competitions in 2024, 7 games in less than a month we ran out of a little steam towards the end today. Hit the bar, hit the post, Rhodes missed a sitter, they committed a foul every time we broke should of had 10 bookings and at least one sent off, new manager bounce for them, 1 point nearer Oxford and Barnsley, 1 point further ahead of Northampton, 3 points off the play offs 17 games to go, onward and upward. 🍊

Generally we were weak as piss after their goal and had to endure schoolboy finishing. A real shame as that was a heck of a good performance and no individual should be singled out. They were all very good.
