Blackpool v Derby County Official Matchday Thread 30.04.22

I think we need to give Derby some credit. Well organised and pressed us very well in the first half especially. We needed to be on top of our game to counteract that and unfortunately we weren’t. Inevitable that we’d concede in the second half with a makeshift defence.

We were decent down the left side I thought Kirk was excellent and teamed up well with Husband and then Garbutt, but the right side was just dreadful, Connolly is not a right back and he and CJ are awful together. We need Gabriel back and another right back of quality as well as an attacking left back although Husband was my MOM before he went off injured.

It also shows how much we missed Marv, we have to keep him and not sell him. I have never been convinced by Anderson, he has some lovely touches but hasn't really got a position in the team where he actually fits, he's a luxury who if we could get decent money for then we should snatch their hands off. I have been critical of Kenny most of the season but he shines when he has a decent more forward thing midfielder next to him, he had to do it all today and I felt sorry for him. I don't know what Madine was thinking today, he had a shocker, the penalty farce was embarrassing and it's no wonder he hit such a shocking pen, I would have subbed him after that. I also don't know how Lavery gets in in front of Jerry, I have a sneaking feeling we may see Gary go in the summer and that would be a mistake. It's funny how we have looked better with Beesley up front, well done to the lad for showing what he can do. I would still like to see a pacy, aggressive striker in this summer but I think one will have to go.

It will be an interesting summer and I hope they are positive with their ins and outs, no room for sentiment, if they aren't going to feature then get them out and get better in.

Well done Derby, I thought their players and supporters were superb today, I hope they come straight back up.
They are surely nailed on for an instant return. Without the points deduction they’d be reasonably pleased with their season

I will. Yes we were crap but this board makes me laugh. Knee-jerk reactions to each game in isolation. We have a bad game and a mass clear out is needed..we thump Brum and we are Brazil 70'.

Maybe it's because I've been watching us for over 30 years now but come on it was a meaningless game.

Look at the bigger picture folks; we have a good side and have comfortably lived with most in this division.

I still think we may find the going harder next year btw, but as long as we stay up that will do for me.

I genuinely take your point & agree with 90% of what you say, but can’t accept it’s ok to put in a faint-hearted p*ss-poor performance like that, whilst taking the full dollar off faithful punters.

Frankly - just say ‘It’s a meaningless end-of-season game - we’ll not be putting 100% into it, certain players will be ‘rested’ for reasons unspecified (😉), so it’ll be 50% off, to all ST holders (And no, I’m not one).

After a really productive season, for me, it’s just a bit of a cheap ending today….

They have done us with apparent ease home and away this season

Be interesting to have a list of who's out of contract - and see how many we want to keep.
In contract players will remain unless signed by another club.

Thorniley, Robson, Keogh, Anderson, Bowler, but the club has an option for another year on all of them, and undoubtedly it'll be exercised.

Kirk is only on loan, but I expect we'll make it permanent, Ward and possibly Moore are the only ones who are completely out of contract, the latter will probably be offered an extension and presumably will take it.

We were terrible today and showed a lack of quality throughout the team. But goals change games and with a missed penalty, good saves from their giant keeper and our horrendous finishing it all could have been so different.
At least for me it once again highlights where our shortcomings are. Overall a great season - onward and upwards…UTMP

Hands up all those who are going to defend that performance
Critchley, we were probably on top, had most possession, didn’t take our chances, blah blah blah. I’m glad we’ve got Critchley and don’t want him going anywhere else, but for christs sake admit now and again we were crap. Don’t keep trying to defend the indefensible.

A really nice day, the only downside the football. Thought Derby were abject in the first half and there for the taking. A throw in they took which went straight out of play without touching another player summed up their half. We did create a few good chances and looked like taking the lead. Credit to their keeper. Thought Madine might have lost his focus before taking the penalty as the crowd were loudly shouting for Keogh. Needs to shut all that out. Several players did have poor moments. In the build up to the goals Hamilton‘s indecision and then Connolly needlessly giving away a free kick.
In all a hugely disappointing result on what should have been a big final home game. How much did we miss Marv? We move on.

Wayne says that is the worst they've played, which shows how bad we are!

Derby fan here, I spoke on your board with your arsehole owners.

Thank you so much, the Blackpool fans have been amazing, and we will never forget this, I wish you nothing but success going forward.

Up the Tangerines.
A class post (not sure what the 1st line refers to).
Your support today was a pleasure to witness and very funny too.
Your manager and players were a credit to your club, they could have folded and had an early holiday - but didn't, and they clearly wanted to win the game out of pride and for you loyal supporters.
Thanks for the respect you paid to Uncle Richard, he and his witnessing family must have been chuffed.
Good luck next season.

Pity we got relegated but hopefully we can get back in the Championship next season eh? 😉

I wouldn't want many of you lot to cheer me up if I was a bit fed up ..ffs, moaning fuckers
I agree, I don’t know how we have the sheer temerity to pay hundreds and hundreds of pounds to support the club and on top of that ee have the cheek to hold an opinion. Absolutely diabolical, we should be banned for life.

You are clearly a right walloper

Lost his focus? Fuck me he offered the ball to Keogh!

Not all of the Derby fans were ‘friendly.’ At the burger stand a guy in the queue was furious because the owner of the stand served some family members (who weren’t in the queue) before him. He was so worked up he even offered the owner ‘out’ 😂

Then.. one of four Derby fans sat in the row in front of us …stood up for the penalty, when the guy behind politely asked him to sit down he refused. Our fan asked again and Derby man completely lost it calling him a ** and squaring up to him. He was ejected by the stewards (accompanied by his family) and was arrested apparently because he was so aggressive….

Just watched the highlights and after a good season it was a shambles of a last home game. Dreadful penalty, Maxwell spilled a simple collect and ALL our strikers were hopeless. However thank goodness Neil & Co have the summer to sort it out.

The usual long winded shite that could probably take a lot less words.
Thanks for giving a true perspective on the game, on the occasion. Anyone reading the comments on here would think the relegated team was Blackpool. I thought it was an odd team selection given the performances of Beesley, Dale and Virtue in midweek but I gave up trying to predict Critch's team selections long ago.

Our guy should have just knocked him out, I would have, I can’t stand aggressive people.😉

Derby fan in peace folks.

I'm not usually one to join in any love fest with other clubs but I would just like to say I was really impressed with your fans on Satdee. Very noisy and great to see sections all round the ground joining in not just a "palace" type corner.

The match was fairly dour and you would have won comfortably if the pen had gone in.

Thanks for the EFL stuff and I'm glad to see you have recovered and moved on from the Oystons era.

Loads of complimentary stuff about you lot and the great weekend many of us had on https://dcfcfans.uk

I would love to want you to finish above PNE except I would be happier if they stopped Middlesbrough making the play offs (due to Steve Gibson's role in trying to kill our club while we were down and nearly out). We still haven't exited Administration yet so he might still have his way.

All the best for next season and keep getting behind your club like you have done this year.

Cheers, only just seen this post yesterday, just a shame the team didn't actually give us something to cheer also, in both games against you now.

We've had some great atmospheres home and away.

I was at the Derby away one also and another dreadful performance really but a great atmosphere from both again.

Seem a decent bunch of fans 👍
