Blackpool v Exeter Official Matchday Thread 13.01.24

Professional performance, total domination, 4-0 wouldn't have flattered us. Can't ask for much more than that. A very strong bench, Lyons not even on it and Kouassi, Bees and Pennington soon to return. We just need to get this awful away form off our back because it is hurting us badly.

There’s a distinct lack of quality up front dale and Lavery messed that one up between themselves Dembele with a few poor balls into the box Rhodes had a stinker we’re behind on points and way behind on goal difference why take the foot off the pedal? Subs were too late again. Thank goodness for Albie. Bristol have only lost 1 at home all season and we always struggle down there I can’t see us coming away with anything there especially if we go all out against forest the fa cups an unwanted distraction.

Another good home win. We’ve got some ground to make, and would absolutely have to transform our away form, but only 11 points behind Portsmouth and no games in hand for them.
Win our home game against them and then it might just be doable.
Need a couple or more decent recruits.

Glad we won of course. But that was shite apart from Morgan’s strikes. With all the players we’ve got we’re definitely not making the most of them. That’s down to Critchley 🙄 The atmosphere was flat again.

I thought it was OK. Professional is the word isn't it. Coulson looked good, Gabriel was a huge upgrade when he came on. I honestly can't see a spot for CJ personally, thought he was poor again today. Albie was very good again and all round it was a professional job against a poor side who came to sit in and draw 0-0.

Radio Lancs said the first half was boring but I don't think it was. Thought we played well but just lacked quality around the box. If the penalty goes in then maybe that would have opened the floodgates. They were really poor. They had a couple of moments due to sloppy defending but nothing to worry about. Coulson was decent. There weren't really any bad performances but Connolly's distribution was frustrating at times.

it wasn't great, limp is the best word I could use to describe it. three points is three points, but cant say it was convincing and Exeter offered absolutely nothing. I suppose you could say professional performance but it didn't feel like that. I don't understand when we have players who are significantly more suited to playing on the deck at pace, we keep playing a long ball game and percentages for the second ball, and consistently slowing the game down, particularly Connolly and Norburn. im usually a fan of connolly but i do wish he'd stop with the putting his foot on the ball and waiting for a player to come to him, because he makes one pass then it goes back and is hoofed forward, where we lose possession.

for all of our possession today, and Exeter being diabolically bad we still looked a bit ropey in defence, and never had any real control of the midfield. dont like being negative particularly after a win but the whole game apart from the goals and a few moves here and there left me a bit cold.

That was about as comfortable as it gets…..especially when you factor in that Rhodes & Dembele & Joseph all had off days, Connolly was Connolly. Big positive for me was Coulson who looked good on debut & of course Morgan who seems to be growing in confidence . Needs to improve his long passing but I’m sure he will. The rest did what they had to do.

what's the betting that now morgan has played himself into some decent form, critchley will drop him to the bench

I had idiots in the family stand shouting at Grimshaw and the defenders to get it forward. Some people really haven't a clue. Exeter had a bit of pressure and Grimshaw was right to calm It down. The defenders are also right being patient waiting for the right pass. Will never understand the forward shouts when we are winning.

The hopeful long balls forward to no one have been annoying but especially so today when we were comfortably 2-0 up hoofing the ball up the pitch and losing it every single time. I don’t think a single one of the hoofs forward went to one of our players in the second half. Other than that I think generally we played well and I enjoyed the game

Been upstairs today and had a couple but here we go. Exeter were absolutely awful, absolutely the worst side to play at our place this season. Second half they were there to be absolutely mullered, but it seems we were happy to stop at 2 and let them have a bit of the ball.
3 points, but as Albie Morgan said upstairs afterwards, not the best watch.

Maybe people want entertainment for their entrance fee ?

Would have loved to see Rob Apter coming on around now. Perfect type of game to ease him in.
Which player on the bench would you have replaced with Apter? Dale? Lavery? The good news is that we have tied him down to a new contract and he is going to be playing every week with Tranmere.

None, i think that was one of the strongest benches we have had for a long time
