Blackpool v Gillingham Official Matchday Thread 05.04.21

A good back four, and an equally good back four on the bench, 😁 but glad to have Big Marv back in the squad.

I'm surprised he's gone for Thorniley over Gretarsson. The Viking is much better in the air and my MOTM against Swindon. I would also prefer Gabriel at right back, particularly at home. He played that lovely ball for the Simms goal.

I'm pleased with the attacking line up, hopefully we can seal the game and then frustrate them with some of the big defenders on the bench. 2-1 Pool.

The Football League Paper had him as MOTM as well. It must be a slow return after injury thingy.

Anyone else starting to get nervous now before these games? Have to say I’d sooner lose to Sunderland than frigging Gillingham!!

A very defensive bench, I would have selected Husband over Garbutt in defence as I think he's the better defender

I'm still undecided about Embleton. He had a decent game against Peterborough but his shooting over the last four games.. when in good positions, has been awful! He's had around 8/9 shots on goal and not troubled the keeper once. He must be doing something wonderful in training.

I'd definitely go for Mitchell, who I think is very unlucky.

good player for me - clever, decent movement. I think a goal would do him the world of good.

Bit surprised by the line up but by now perhaps should be more surprised by a line up that was expected! Think Mitchell and Gabriel could offer attacking options.

I cannot think of a scenario where we would bring on an extra 3 defenders at home while chasing a playoff place.
If Mitchell is our only attacking option and we are chasing the game we are screwed
Mitchel can come in and push KaiKai up. Also Gabriel offers attacking potential, but not great will admit. Madine is a mystery, i think its good we never seem to leek information on who is injured, we keep it very quiet.

It is a defensive bench, but Garbutt can be pushed forward if Husband comes on, Mitchell plays forward, and even Gabriel can play in a forward role. Not ideal, but there are some options there.

I don't get how you don't get him. BFC probably couldn't afford to buy him if we wanted to.

I agree with you about having Gabriel at right back though.

A striker on the bench would have been nice, but with Gabriel and Mitchell, plus the option of Husband coming on to allow Garbs to move up, we’ve got some decent options to shake things up.
Maybe even go to a back 3 if needed?

No kids on the bench and not much in the way of attacking options.
I'd assume one of the defenders is definitely coming on as part of the initial plan, and Mitchell/Gabriel are about the most effective attacking options we have to bring on from the bench in our current situation.

Vital not to lose this one, momentum is everything. A draw wouldn't be too bad with a solid performance and no injuries/suspensions. A win would be brilliant.

Also let's not forget you get 5 subs literally to deal with covid congestion. Maybe we're planning to start using it... swap the back 4 at half time!

Would be really happy with a draw today. But actually having just watched their last few games, I think their back line is going to really struggle with Jerry Yates.

Come on youuuuu pooooolllll 🧡🧡🧡🧡🧡🧡

if pool play crap and win 1.0 I will take it now
this match and this team Gillingham, think will be pools most difficult match this season , my opinion

Not a great start. Couldn't access the game and have had to pay another £10. Contacted the I follow lot but nothing come through from them. GRRRRRRRRR

If you give them a ring tomo, they’re very helpful and will refund if necessary.

If their plan is just to frustrate and go for set pieces, it's not going to be enough for them.
