Blackpool v Lincoln City Official Matchnight Thread 01.10.24

There is so much rubbish on here tonight. There was one clear reason reason why we threw that game away.We scored and playing against 10 men ffs we complacently sat back with just a one goal lead, and completely threw away the initiative ffs.I commented about it before they equalised and in the end they got exactly what they deserved.
We lost all composure after we scored, i don't think we were complacent we lacked quality off the bench to replace tired players.

We'll see. I think they were extremely poor and smashed and grabbed a point there.

I'd put money on them not being top 6.
Their record since new year's day suggests they know what they are doing, not wise to judge on 90 minutes. I think tonight tells us we are a good side in this league with a few issues to address. Composure chiefly, in front of goal, and in seeing out games. We are a bit headless at times. And lacking replacements off the bench.

I was impressed by Lincoln’s organisation and pressing. For much of the second half it looked like we would cancel each other out before a moment of madness from their centre half and a good goal from us.

Obviously hugely disappointing to not get the win but we brought it on ourselves with our sloppy play at the end.

At least we didn’t lose against a team who I think will be a promotion rival. Hopefully we can get some revenge at their place later in the season.

Their bench was telling their keeper to go down so he did do their manager could talk to their players. Cheating of the highest order from their dugout. Hope the 4th official saw this and it gets reported. Cheating bastards
Fair play to them. We should of done that instead Of running round like headless chickens for the last 10 mins

Sure, maybe, don't buy it personally.

Missing chances puts massive pressure on us near the end of matches. Shooting practice needed.
Fair point but on any other night their keeper doesn't make all of those saves and we're 2 or 3 up and coasting.

Tonight was a complete fluke, it happens sometimes.

On the whole we were great and I'm not going to let that result (as gutting as it is) bring down my level of excitement that Bruce has produced.

Onwards and upwards!

Their whole management/subs quite clearly gestured this frantically. There must be video evidence to support this and a subsequent fine.
Even the whole of M Block were on their feet which doesn’t even happen when we score!

We have a big problem if anything happens to Evans or Morgan, Carey comes on in the centre and we lose all composure.
Agree, although I don’t think Carey is the ball playing centre mid that Evans or Morgan are.

Carey works best in an attacking role with leaders in front and behind him, doing the dirty work.

Yep, ideally you don’t bring either Carey or Embleton when we are hanging on with 3 minutes to go. Unfortunately only Pennington on the bench that is a defender.

If we lose Evan’s we are in trouble.

Shocking to see. I’m fuming with them doing this

Carey is nowhere near good enough to be given a free role in a league 1 side where people around him do all his grafting.
If that's how he should be played then his level is probably Kings Lynn.
Nobody that sees themselves as top 6 in league 1 would want him in the squad and Embleton needs to up his game aswell!

Yep, Evans is a huge positive influence for us at the moment.

Don’t want to call anyone out in particular,
as we were collectively inviting pressure rather than applying it to Lincoln’s ten men.

Saying that, Fletcher bottled the defence of the corner and Embleton doesn’t seem to be doing much since we signed him.

However, I’d put the disappointment of the draw on the fact that we’re just a bit knackered tonight.

Point was probably a fair result - but not quite sure how we couldn’t deal with anything in the last 10 . Carey and Embleton for Morgan and apter was a difficult watch . Coulson up to him goin off was excellent , Offiah again quality , CJ had a good game

It was a great ball in to be fair but yes he got done for the goal.

We just hit the wall mentally and they threw everything at it for the last 10 minutes.

Something for Bruce to address. Subs weakened us and after all the good work we looked shot. I’d have been fairly happy with a draw before the game. Still miles better than Critchball though. Roll on Saturday.

My take on it for what’s it’s worth.

Our failure to score in the first half when we dominated.

When Lincoln got a man sent off it seemed to spark them into life after our goal we just never capitalised playing against 10 men.

Last 5 minutes (injury time) we just sat back and invited them on to us that corner at the death we should have left a man up top which would have needed 2 of their players to mark him maybe even their keeper.

I Just knew they would score in injury time said so to my mate.

They are a dirty physical side but strong at the back and in midfield and play football which isn't nice to watch but they carve results out you can see why they’ve gone so long unbeaten away from home they set their stall out from the first minute for a point and got one.

Still unbeaten under Bruce at the end of the day. 👍

Very tough to take. I feel like we should have implemented more of the shithousery we did at Charlton after scoring. Lincoln were in full ascendency for the last 10 mins and we just tried to soak up pressure time and time again. I'm furious with Carey for giving the ball away when we had a big counter on but ultimately it's not just on him. You've either got to soak up pressure and time waste a bit more or hit them on the counter (which we were probably too tired to do - looking a bit leggy tonight) and we did neither. You've got to break up play more and we couldn't do that and just invited pressure. Infuriating to concede so late against 10 but Lincoln clearly a very good organised side. They stifled everything we tried to do and their pressing made it hard for us to get anything going.

I think it would have been one hell of a result to have seen off Lincoln. But in the end they did show why it is proving so difficult for all teams to do that now. Offer up a weakness they'll jump on it no matter how much you think you've got them on the ropes. I don't think they came for a point. I think they weigh up all their opposition, grow into games and then try to do whatever it is they need to do to try to get a positive result. It's what you need to be in League One if you can't afford to just buy your way out of it. The ability to show up every game and roll with the punches. Having a full squad to be able to do that with. The weekly grind.

We did. Our keeper fell to the ground at every opportunity. Maybe it's just me but I found it painful and now looks very silly after trying to swat the autumn Mozzies.

Fair enough, felt in the ground that we gave it away constantly and they had chance after chance rather than doing what they did and getting the physio on to break up momentum. Either way, we didn't see the game out well enough. Hopefully we learn from it!

Lack of quality on the bench combined with a formation not suiting Carey and Embleton. Bruce will know this. It's frustrating but a consequence of the Critchley era.

That's the point isn't it. We shouldn't have to waste time at home against 10 men and should have a strong bench of fit players raring to go to try and break into the team. Looks like a few need to go on loan or be sold that unfortunately don't fit the style of play.

Everybody saw it.

We gave away far too many stupid free kicks at the end. They were only ever going to equalise with a set piece. Should have defended better had a free header. Also they threw their keeper up another body to defend against but we didn't in the last seconds why not?

Extremely frustrating at the end, but the fact is if you'd said we'd be in a playoff position after 9 games following that Stockport horror show, I'd have bitten your hand off. We're a good side and ran out of steam after a tough run of 4 games in ten days. No much more to it than that really. Loads of effort and desire tonight from our lads, and we played well again.

A special mention to Kyle Joseph. Another goal, and he really put a massive shift in tonight. Cracking player.

Difficult to defend when the goalscorer has both hands on your shoulders to climb above you. A clear foul that should have been penalised.

We are always weakened by the substitutions, we do need some players back from injury and some squad churn in January if possible.

Lincoln forum reckons our goal was offside, which I thought at the time tbh. Fletcher looked offside when the ball was played to him. I was expecting him to be flagged.

I was in line with it and that was my first thought, although for some reason I wasn't paying attention fully at the time.

20's is a good one for these as I'm sure he sits near me and most probably paid more attention!

And their coaches were laughing at the fans in M block. Indeed, at the end, one of theirs turned round an told us all to F- off.

Oy oy oy....

There's a lot more goes in in Block M than we get credit for and it certainly did last night. Their team got a lungful from many sat there at the sight of the management team gesturing to their keeper to "go down". I witnessed some filthy tactics from a bunch of so called professionals and we let them know of our displeasure.

And as for not standing when a goal is scored...well...ok...some don't, but that maybe due to the ratio of false hips being much higher in that section. Give us old boys a break yeah? 😁

We were level with Fletcher when he received the ball before our goal. He was offside, but in my mind, it only made up for the referee missing a blatant second card for their no.14 just before halftime. In the last 10 minutes, what narked me most was, against 10 men, there was 3 or 4 set pieces when they had an extra player on our left hand side. We should have had two fast players up by the halfway line to hoof the ball to, as attack is the best form of defence. . They'd have needed at least two players plus the keeper back, one taking the kick, with only five available in our box. Their goal, which was always on the cards, came with 9 Lincoln players, including their keeper, in and around our goal area, which was very poor game management in my opinion. There was no out-ball for us at all as it stood. I hope that Steve Bruce doesn't allow that to happen again, because, unlike Neil Critchley, he learns from his mistakes. We played some exhilarating football in the first half and Lincoln's keeper made two or three superb saves to save them from certain defeat. Onwards and upwards for The Mighty Pool.

Quite right we thought he was definitely offside.

The problem was Fletcher was playing at statues. If he had gone down the ref would have probably given a foul or if had jumped into the attacker then he wouldn't have been able to get a clean header on it. Bruce will be livid at Fletcher's lack of physicality in defending a set piece.

Having said that we completely lost our composure in that last 10 mins and we didn't string two passes together.

The challenge on Coulson last night kind of summed up the ref. Lincoln player made no attempt to win the ball and just jumped into Coulson, when he was in the air, resulting in him landing badly. Ref didn't even give a foul.

Cost us badly as chance to sub CJ for Hubby and push Coulson into midfield for last 10 minutes was taken away.

Where did I say they were lucky? I said I think that was a poor side. Stats are very padded. That team won't be near the play off.s
Hope we're as poor in our next 10 away games.
Results are all that matters and, yesterday, they got and deserved a point.
Our game management at the end was as dire as I've seen in many a year..... Oh, apart from Cambridge.
How are you so sure they won't be near the playoffs, come May?
