Blackpool v Nobbers Official Matchday Thread 22.10.22

Nobody I know agreed with you , but then I mix with people that actually go to the games rather than watch on TV.
Good for you. Everyone I know who go to games will agree with every word I say about CJ. That was his best game by far in two years and a bench mark now going forward, he's a passenger in too many games. Btw if you knew why I haven't been to a game this season you'd be pretty ** embarrassed. Considering I've done 20 plus games for the last 10 years not including COVID or Boycott. Keep your opinion to yourself.

I’ll keep my opinions to myself when you stop dishing out abuse to Blackpool players. I’m a Blackpool supporter not a ‘detractor’.

Thought we played quite poorly today against a team that almost certainly will be in the bottom three at the end of the season. With the current injury/suspensions, and a number of key players on the pitch who are obviously nowhere near 100 % fitness, though it was a gutsy performance and one thing we do have is a goal threat with a number of creative, attacking players who are improving in confidence.

Appleton's style/ethos is starting to show and it certainly appears to be more a Holloway 'we'll score more than you' than a Critchley/Grayson 'stay in the game' one. It can leave us a bit exposed defensively with just the one defensive midfielder and a number of teams have looked to exploit that (Woodburn today was taking that space and leaving Bridcutt with 2 players to watch a lot of the time) and thus needs a bit of flexibility at times to ensure we don't get overloaded in front of theback four.

Comparing the 2 squads today I am certainly more comfortable with ours and the depth we have that has enabled us to still be competitive with a pretty horrendous injury (& suspension) list. When the Nobbers had to bring that carthorse on at centre-back when they had an injury you kind of knew then they were fucked.

How about that run Carey had in the second half?, wish he'd have taken on the last defender but best performance he's had since Reading away last year.

Thought Dougall was immense too, Patino showed his class with two decisive moments. Though he had a very very shaky spell in the first half I thought Marv did well to recover.

Derby aside, we really needed those three points, buzzing.

Nope. Most agreed with me pre match. Had a wicked game but has let us down multiple times and flattered to deceive. But hey easy to criticise after the game..I've been right a million times about players and I don't come on after a derby win acting a tit do I.

Need to bolster midfield - Carey not for me.
Callum Wright needed - then Poveda and Theo - otherwise we are too Div 1 weak.
On hindsight . Hahahahaha 😁🤣😂

Fantastic result and I'm particularly enjoying the battling qualities of this team. They've had numerous setbacks so far this season and even in the last few games, but never let their heads drop and always keep going.

Not going to go through all the players but will mention a few:
Husband - solid and reliable, it's like he'd never been away. Good player and very solid defender.
Ekpiteta - No qualms over the pen, he's mistimed a few in the last few games and not been at his best. But he'll come through this bad patch, form is temporary and he's still our best defender.
Carey - A player that's been underused imo in the last few games. Immense today and turned the game in our favour, I think him, Patino and Bridcutt would make a good midfield.
Patino - Makes it look effortless. He's one of those players that never seems to panic, totally composed in possession. Scored one, set another up. Superb player. Will be an Arsenal regular eventually I reckon.
CJ - Delighted he got a goal to top off a great performance, he deserved it.
Yates - Just fantastic. All over the pitch, determination, skill, bravery, strength, finishing, composure. Is it too early to use the word legend?

I think the 3 points were just as important as bragging rights, it keeps us above the relegation line. But in truth, I don't think we'll be in trouble at the end of the season because we're capable. We had a lethargic game midweek but when we put our minds to it we've proven this season already that we're a match for anyone in this league.

There have been some decent comments on here from the nobbers that contribute to this site, so to them I will say that I thought despite the scoreline, PNE were miles better than they were last season. However, if just one player going off affects you so badly it should be a concern. You could probably make best part of a whole team out of our injured and suspended players right now.

Great day. Really hope this builds our confidence further and we keep this good run going. Hull aside, we've picked up some very good results in the last few weeks.

Woke up with a sore head. Was it worth it? Absolutely. What a day yesterday was - will live with us for a very long time.

Atmosphere from start to finish was immense, even before kick off it was loud from 1210 ish.

Got nervous between 30-60 mins into the game as I thought Preston were looking a little bit more threatening. patinos goal changed the game though.

When it went 3-2, I was dreading and fearing the worst seeing there away end go mental for a 3-3 equaliser. But instead CJ went and got the goal he deserved. Fantastic

Absolute standout performances from CJ, Patino and Yates again. Seriously how did Critch never rate Yates.

I thought you played very well to be honest, the goals came against the run of play and we capitalised on the momentum.

I wouldn’t say questions have to be asked, it was a great game that could have gone either way.

Cheers for the comments. My points were much deeper rooted than yesterday's match. The lack of decent defensive options (Diaby was awful & he's not up to it at this level) clearly cost us plus we have sweet FA forward options other than Riis. We also have no pace driving us forward like Hamilton did. He played well & caused problems. That Patino strike was class! Great goal & great assist for him.

Hope not too many sore heads today!

After yesterday's brilliant 4-2 win, I came home hoarse from chanting. We never dominated much of the first hour, but once Charlie Patino made it 2-1, I contemplated nothing other than a Pool victory. Jerry Yates's great second goal at the end of the move of the match cemented my thoughts. The own-goal hiccup was just a prelude to our burst out of defence for CJ Hamilton knocking home the fourth goal.
Charlie Patino was named Man Of The Match, but, even before his last minute goal, I would've given it to CJ, who I thought had played his best match for Blackpool. He should have had a player booked at the very start for a rugby tackle as he flew past him. Jerry Yates, over the last few weeks has been a revelation and he is, up to now, Pool's player of the season. I'm a very happy fan today.

The midfield 3, when everyone is fit, is a real dilemma.
Carey, Bridcutt and Patino is exciting but King Kenny is so "hard" I'd be reluctant to leave him out.
