Blackpool v Nobbers Official Matchday Thread 23.10.21

Derby’s are never straight forward so pointless looking at form etc. I’d like to think we’ve got the better atmosphere in the squad, a manager and coaching staff who grasp the importance of the match and who also possess the ability to drum that into the players, a team full of characters and a stadium that’s going to be absolutely rocking and unlike anything these lads will have ever known before. I think we’ll win. I think Yates will get himself on the score sheet and I think some of these lads will absolutely be desperate to make themselves real legends at Bloomfield Road and tomorrow provides a great starting place for that journey.

Play like we did at Reading and cut out the mistakes from the first half and I reckon it’s 3-1 to the pool.

A draw seems most likely, they have drawn so many games lately, and it's a derby.

I think it possibly means more to them! They have had the upper hand in recent years, thanks to the boycott years etc, and will be anxious about the crown slipping, and falling off. That anxiety may transmit to the players. There will be a lot of pressure on our players too, obviously. As much as we want to beat them, we are a club moving forwards, and the forward progress is actually a bigger thing than this one game. They are stagnant, so winning a one off 'cup tie' is more important, I think, to them. Maybe. I'd like to beat them and finish above them, but I'd rather finish above them, of the two, I think. It won't feel like that if we were to lose tomorrow though, obviously. Both teams had good second halves in midweek, which gives both momentum going into the game, so could be a classic. Or a 0-0 dullfest!

I'll say 1-1.

Blackpool 4 - Preston 1, Yates to score 2 perhaps even bag a hatrick, Carey to open his account, Dale to continue his fine vein with another goal, I reckon Presturd with score from some kind of totally underseved set piece dogshit against the run of play.

I'm itching to see us play 4231 again (or whatever kind of hybrid it was against Reading!), we need to dominate a game and win comfortably - not by just 1 goal - and what better game is there to crush the opposition than when we're against this bunch of totally numb bastards.

COME ON THE POOL!

Matt Scrafton's predicted line-up (4231):

Grimshaw
Gabriel Keogh Ekpiteta Husband
Dougall Wintle
Bowler Carey Dale
Yates

1-1 Madine. Frenetic start then tense and cagey.

Would be happy with this, although I wonder if Critch might turn to more seasoned pros in Madine and Anderson. It's good that we can keep them guessing.

I'd be pretty disappointed if Madine started tomorrow, I can't lie. We looked very dangerous with that front 4 of Yates, Carey, Bowler in Dale on Wednesday. Of course it was late in a game in which Reading looked devoid of energy it enthusiasm, but why not go at PKE with that same combination of youth, skill, pace and energy?

We haven’t beaten Nobville at home this century …. Only been 3 meetings mind!
Hoping we go at them from the off like we did to Blackburn….

Let's be serious, 8 whole years without meeting and 11 years without meeting in the league has only made the hate grow stronger and the build up to this game even more immense, it is 100% the biggest football match in recent memory outside of play-off games for both clubs and the tension and atmosphere in that ground before kick off will be spine tingling..

Which means we're perfectly set up for a nil - nil. Nailed on.

Completely agree, personally I'd go with the same formation with Carey supporting Yates, I was speculating because Critch has been known to mix it up and I wonder if he'll want to hand players full home debuts in such a big game.

With Dale's brilliant cameo we now have great options on the wings, any combination of Keshi/Bowler/Demi/Dale would look dangerous and whoever doesn't start will cause problems off the bench, Gaz also good in both boxes for the last 15 if we're defending a lead or chasing a goal.

Heavy support on the gambling front for PNE 12/5 into 6/4 and pool have drifted from 6/5 out to almost 2s……think we’re a great price but it’s a derby and you can’t really get too involved. Can’t see anything other than a draw tbh

How bizarre. Means bigger returns for our bets. Happy days!

Yeah I'd noticed that. Usually means "they" know something we don't. I'll be ignoring that though and having a wee lump on the Mighty regardless 🧡

Their weaknesses are our strong points and vice versa.
They struggle with teams that dominante the sides like us, and try to work the ball into the box. In turn, they have some big lads and could cause us some big trouble with crosses so I expect a game of who outscores who (a la Ollie)
It could be a big game for bowler/anderson/dale and carey and yates.
Also hope that Iversen wakes up on his left foot and has a nightmare of a game. He seems quality
