Blackpool v Peterborough Official Matchday Thread 28.10.23

They've done us proud?
For going 3 down and making it really hard work for ourselves?
FFS we're at home and let them basically walk all over us for 55 minutes🤦

Sorry but I can't be proud of that. We could have been 0-5 down at one point. All the problems we had last season with sendings-off, you'd think we would learn from it. Some of the players were just awful. Husband, who's had a great season so far, gave the ball away all game resulting in one goal against and could have been three. Definitely a bad day at the office.

Disappointing result for sure but it’s certainly not all doom and gloom despite what some may say on here. Agreed that Critch should have possibly started more attacking but great spirit from the lads second half, we’re not out of this by long shot.
Absolutely we’re not out of it. Entertaining game, of course I’m gutted to lose but as @td53 said a while ago ‘I’d prefer a bit of chaos’ to those drab 0-0s we had at the start of the season.

We gave it a go then Posh started rolling around on the floor. That’s football. I was entertained regardless.

We missed Norburn today but I’m not going to piss the bed over the team selection. Carey isn’t even that bad.

We’re not out of it by a long shot. Believe!

‘If an offside offence occurs, the referee awards an indirect free kick where the offence occurred, including if it is in the player’s own half of the field of play.’

Is that clear enough?
Not exactly, no…

You can’t be offside in your own half…

The free kick was taken a good 5 yards in our half…

So I’m interested to understand how that happens in practical terms…

It doesn’t seem to add up logically

I’ve gone to the trouble of providing you a link to the FA rules and even have even given you the paragraph. Some people can’t be helped

But the event can't happen in the player's own half.

It really can! Lavery came from an offside position in the Peterborough half to play the ball in his own half. He became offside at the point in which he played the ball. He played the ball in his own half. Free kick taken from where he became offside. Which was in his own half. And then you stood up and shouted some absolute bollocks at the ref probably. It’s okay to be wrong 👍

I've just googled it, you're right Doolan and the law changed in 2016.
I hang my head in shame !
Where the law is wrong is in allowing the free-kick to be taken where the offside player receives the ball, even if he has moved back into his own half. That is contrary to the rule that off-side occurs if a player is in an-offside position when his colleague plays the ball forwards. In that case, the offence occurs where the player is offside, not where he receives the ball. If that is not the case then it is the rule that is wrong.

So he was in the opposition half when the ball was played and he’s then moved towards the ball to pick up in his own half after it was played ?

I didn’t shout anything at the ref, I’ve got CoViD, so not been to the game. I didn’t actually see the incident, but Chisnall was waffling on about it.

That makes more sense 👍

Ahhh that bloody COVID. Maybe that’s why your tone was shite when you asked me to enlighten you all.

We gave it a go when all was lost after inept tactics.
Why the hell can't Blackpool play like that for the majority of a game is beyond me, they are more than capable to do so.
Instead they decide to play like some sort of pound land Barcelona.
Posh started to roll on the floor!!
It's called gamesmanship, what did you expect? For them to just capitulate so we could get an equaliser?🤣

Yeh, they did us proud, gave it a go but fundamentally they lost the game, nil points, zilch, ultimate frustration 🤬

Whatever the result this lot have done us proud 2nd half despite Critchleys tactics.

Hope he learns one day that we play best on the front foot. Dont have to wait until its desperate to have a go.
Critch is highly qualified so it must be someone else's fault

Plenty of positives.

Peterborough will be up there and we're getting better. For me, we're noticeably better every 2-3 games.
6 goals conceded in last 2 home games
Sorry but that is not a positive and the match was already lost before we started playing

Glad I missed it (horse-racing intervention) - caught the last 5 mins.
Chasing the game - Rhodes with his arm up on the edge of the box, Carey in midfield hits it toward him - misses by at least 30 ft.
Reckon I'd have more accuracy at 61.
A professional player - let's not forget they get well paid for it.
Am I being a **, expecting too much?
Probably.

Calling it gamesmanship doesn't detract from the fact it's cheating, referees need to be stronger, the arsehole who just say down as he was being booked should have been walked

OK, whatever that last sentence meant!🤯
I wish we would do it more often when winning in a close match it would certainly stop blood pressures going up In the last ten minutes of a match

Yes, I am well aware that rolling around on the floor is gamesmanship, that’s why I said ‘that’s football’ and was swearing like a bastard during the game when they were doing it!

I am frustrated too, trust me, there’s the ‘could’ve should’ve’ feeling after a bitter defeat but there’s plenty of games for us to make up ground.

The key is if our players learn from the defeats, then we can progress.

🤞 but cannot see it when Critchley tinkers all the time!!

We were awarded a free kick, a Peterborough player kicked the ball away and was given a yellow card, whilst being given the yellow card he just sat down in front of the referee and waited for treatment, he should have been given a second yellow and sent off. Clear? Also, I never want my team to resort to cheating.

Another trip back down to earth.
Every so often we are put in our place.
Derby and Peterborough have reminded us consolidation is probably all we can achieve this season.
A marked improvement in the second half last Saturday was tempered by as poor a one on Tuesday and first half this aft.

We never put in a consistent 90 minutes.

With regard to tactics and selection, I realise we don't see, as well as NC, how well individual players perform in training, but I, for one, think the practice of continually rotating at the expense of fielding those who are on form and contributing more to wins, might demotivate some and disrupt performances overall.

Slag off the officials after a defeat as usual; wasn't their fault we lost.
Call the opposition cheats all we want, but they executed their game plan more effectively than us (what was ours, exactly when we had 11 on the field?) and deserved the three points.

Sorry to single anyone out; well ....erm not really.
CJ may, occasionally, put in a shift that helps, but, for me, he's just not good enough to warrant constant selection, whatever our preferred formation.

Finally, scant consolation that Hull won today. We're still talking about a division higher than the one in which, I believe, we'll be playing next season, so we're not in a position to gloat

Oakley-booth doesn't cut it in midfield, with the likes of Albie Morgan and Jason Weir available its just shocking that Critch picks TOB over Morgan. As soon as Norburn gets back Oakley-booth will be straight on the bench or even the reserves.

Alright lovey calm down 🤣🤣🧡

When Carey scored the 2nd I thought "Right attack nothing to lose" and then I've seen Marv make dogey passes and Grimshaw mess about at the back, I was in shock, I was like its 3-2 what are we doing pool. Taking CJ and Killy of were right subs and Dembele plus Dale were brilliant choices, Dale didn't make a impact but CJ was shocking that it felt like we had nine men that's how irrelevant CJs and Dales performances were on the left. We need to give Dembele a run of games I don't think he made much of a difference not taking anything away from the lad he was taking on players and trying to create chances but didn't have enough time on the ball, and then Critch hit self destruct. #operationautmatics more like #operationdontgetrelagated but unlucky today pool.

Hate to be negative but Critch was lucky when we went up, he had an experienced staff and good loanees in the team, but it didn't take him long to get found out! QPR also found out the hard way that his decision making was for shit! I would love to see Sadler's "outside agency" report that repeatedly came back to Critch as the only choice to take us forward as I can't see it myself? Virtually every person in the stand and watching on TV could have picked a better starting 11

Thats a really good find on the laws which I didn't know. I'd still like to see the replay though to see if how you described it is actually what happenned. Its all to quick when you are watching live and bearing in mind how absolutely useless the referee and his assistant down the west were he might have got it wrong. He certainly wasnt looking at the player when he took the free kick. As for his assistant apart for not daring to say what he saw when CJ was fouled in the penalty area he wasn't even sure whether the ball was in or out of play.

Would've been entertaining to have a go in the 1st half aswell!!
So passive from the first minute we just gave half a game up without doing anything, not acceptable.

I don’t know why we start most games so slowly. Maybe the players worry that they will be blowing out of their arses after 20 mins of hard work. Maybe the manager tells us to take it easy and turn it on to potentially Nick the win later.

I don’t know for a fact, but I don’t want us to do it.
