Blackpool v Peterborough Official Matchday Thread 28.10.23

Whatever the result this lot have done us proud 2nd half despite Critchleys tactics.

Hope he learns one day that we play best on the front foot. Dont have to wait until its desperate to have a go.
They've done us proud?
For going 3 down and making it really hard work for ourselves?
FFS we're at home and let them basically walk all over us for 55 minutes🤦
Bolton showing how to keep a lead at Charlton
Wycombe showing how to come back from a goal down at Oxford.
Pompy doing what Pompy do🤷
Blackpool, did us proud.

Edit, Oxford get late equaliser, pen

Play your best team from the outset and the result may have been completely different! Critch is fuckin' useless, and the bigger problem is we always play crap against crap teams so the Cods will probably turns us over as well..

Critchley tactics, that the problem

Not so sure they're strange to be honest, Oakley-Boothe is obviously seen as a replacement for Norburn, Dougall has been in decent form and was always going to be in there. Both CJ and Thompson have been good recently, the only slight disappointment is that Dembele isn't in for Carey.

It was the midfield three that looked and felt wrong to me, not the wing backs. Dougall of course has to play, and we will probably never know why he picked that combination, maybe he had no choice, but I think it’s most likely cost us the game.
We might have lost whoever he had chosen though I suppose.

dont know what to say about that, amazing fight back, but to no avail. Play Carey more central you get results, Dembele needs to start,

needed to be more in their face in the first half, we play a flat three in midfield and we end up sitting back and letting teams play in front of us.

absolutely shocking ref today, I should just copy and paste from previous games.

How we played after the sending off going to a 441 shows me that we absolutely should fuck off the 352 shite and play 442. Even Carey and all the sh1te I give him did decent in a more familiar role to him.

we were still playing three at the back we were effectively playing 3-3-3

The manager does my f###ing head in, over cautious is an absolute understatement. Starting a second rate holding midfielder instead of Dembele our most creative player beggars belief.
He worries about the opposition to our absolute detriment. Look what happens when the reigns come off with ten men and we HAVE to go for it. Have a go from the start ffs, play on the front foot, make them worry about us. Tell me anyone who looked at that lineup and the way it was setup who thought, that's our best starting eleven for this game, other than Critchley. 100% his fault today.

Why are people moaning about Carey, the biggest crime is playing Kouassi
kouassi had a decent game little bit of luck he might have had two goals, won most of his aerial challenges, made his presence felt physically, but there wasnt much of an outlet when he won the ball as the midfield three were sat back too much. doesnt get any protection from refs, and every time a pish player went to ground the ref gave a free kick.

We‘ve now scored five, but conceded SIX at HOME, these past two games. The Cods, after drawing away at Barnsley - should be licking their lips - and who could blame them? We really do need some Ollie style ’gung ho‘ performances, from now until the end of the season. Some in your face, full on pressing, with no let up. None of this slow, monotonous build up from the back. I want to watch barn-storming footy - not ponderous stuff. Ah, well. 😕

Football is supposed to be a form of entertainment for the people who pay to watch. And those supporters who've paid out their money want to see their team go all out to win the game, right from the off. Every game. They don't go just because they want to see us go out just to not lose.

Critchley is one of those managers who see not losing as the principal aim in a match. It doesn't matter if it's dross to watch. He gets some kind of result it'll keep him in a job. Forget entertainment and sod the supporters. So he'll play cautious negative football and hope the opposition don't score first. If we get our noses in front then he can continue to play cautious negative football. But if the opposition score then he's clueless about what to do, and in particular how quickly to do it. That's got to change.

Dembele will never be a 90 minute player until he's given a regular chance to actually be on the pitch for 90 minutes. That way he'll get used to it.

If we're to do anything in this league we have to go all out to win every game. Right from the start. Get a goal (or preferably more), demoralise the opposition and show them no respect whatsoever.

Talk about the technical aspects of the game, the setup and the individual performances all you want. But the correct, winning mindset has to be there, instilled in all the players, from the management, everytime they take to the pitch.

And as for those who still go on about positives kindly stfu. You'll still be saying that at the last game of the season when we're down in lower mid-table obscurity.
The time to talk about positives finished in September.

Kouassi showed real promise when we played Reading! He scored one, set up one and found himself on the bench next time out..

How is a player supposed to gain confidence when his inept manager wouldn't know a winning formular if it sat on his face and wriggled

He is nowhere near good enough. You are just waiting for the inevitable moment he is subbed.

Not criticizing him be he literally won no areial challenges.

Peterborough played in a similar way to us but they had it off to a fine art. Hamilton was well marshalled and should have been taken off at half time. Rhodes kept trying his flicked headers but there was no-one there to pick them up. Dale should have been on earlier. Even so, we were well beat.
