Blackpool v Sheff Utd Official Matchnight Thread 16.03.21

Well I sat and watched it on Sky with my son who was born in Sheffield and is a Blades fan.We seemed to have watched a different game than most on here as we both concluded that it was a disappointingly scrappy game with many misdirected passes . Only 3 shots on target ,2 for them 1 for us ,none of them troubling the respective `keepers.

I must have been at a different game. Didn’t find it particularly entertaining as both teams on the whole cancelled each other out. Barring Bowler, who was entertaining, we put in a shift but otherwise both teams misplaced passes in what was a fairly turgid affair.
Totally agree and my post immediately above was made before I saw yours. We should also bear in mind that Blades had 11 out with injuries and a bunch of teenagers with no experience on the bench. Gibbs -White who has been their best player in the past was poor tonight as he has apparently been in the last three games.

We may have defended well but going forward apart from Bowler at times posing a threat our passing was generally pretty poor which was why there was minimal threat to the Blades defence. We were especially poor for most of the first half.

Think we were at the same game 👍

Cracking game, we didn't actually have that many shots on target though. both teams can hold their heads up there, it was fast, frantic and breathtaking.

We are still in with a shout but could have done with all 3 points and to be fair we were lucky it wasn't 0-1, nothing wrong with their goal.

We are a very good Championship team and some shrewd signings in the summer and players back from injury and somehow keep Josh Bowler and we will be up the top of the table from the get go.

I thought the back 5 were outstanding, Thorniley deserved MOM, Marv is turning into a great captain, I really like Sterling, clever player, could we sign him? Stewart was immense, what a player he is and Dougall had a shocking first half but excellent second half. Madine was really isolated up top but worked his socks off, Bowler was was just incredible and CJ never got the ball in the first half and was okay second, I think Keshi will be back in the position next season. Connolly was superb again, he was all over the pitch.
Good summary. After our earlier disagreement, I thought the same about Dougall. Really improved second half. A big improvement in his passing.

It wasn't a flowing game but that doesn't always mean a poor game. It was two sides giving it everything, there was no quarter given and no fannying around. Which for me can make for good viewing, and it did, in my opinion.

Not a beauty contest, but a good scrap. Pretty physical. We played 8 defenders and Madine. And CJ and Bowler who run with it. So we are set up to either shove it to the wingers to run or hit it long to Gaz. There's no cohesive passing.

Still a pretty good watch though I thought, cos of the intensity.

The goal was disallowed as Sharp was in an offside position directly in Grimmy's eyeline from the original shot. Grimmy wouldn't have save it, due to the deflection, so a bit tough on Sheff Utd but that's the rule.

We are excellent at pushing out at corners and we regularly catch opposition players offside like that.

I was at the match and I really enjoyed the game. I would have enjoyed it more with 3 points though. Sheffield are a good team and are constantly going forward with rarely a backpass. Their passing was good, they had people with speed and the first half was totally theirs. Second half we pinned them back more and started to come into our own. They constantly had 3 people on Bowler and he frightened them to death with his tricky runs. Sheffield had some quality about them and they brought out the best in ours. I thought pre match I would be happy with a draw and I was happy at the end of the match with the point. Sheffield are good but we matched them to show just how good we are as well.

But Sufc played poorly last night with a much weakened squad. My son who watches them regularly said they were well below par as they were in their previous game when they were beaten 4-1 by Coventry in both games without virtually half their squad .

If their goal had been given as it so easily could have been I think the tone on here would have been very different and would have more accurately reflected what actually happened out there.

I should add that one thing Blades were very good at was closing us down which effectively lead to many of our poor passes and failure to keep hold of the ball.

ksteve. Yes, they were the better team by far in the first half, but Madine had two wide open headers, and Bowler hit the bar. We made as many clear chances as they did in the first 45. We didn't need to play a lot of pretty football to do that. Completely agree with everything else.

I enjoyed it
It`s very strange isn`t it how two or more people who are seasoned watchers of football games can watch a game and come away with diametrically opposite opinions of what they have just seen. I suppose life would be dull if we all saw things the same way but having such polar opposite views is hard to understand.

Always happens mate
