Blackpool v Sunderland Official Matchday Thread 27.07.24

More Sunderland fans than Blackpool fans.

Not concerned about winning, team just needs to show they can create chances and score some goals.

It's a day out for their fans. I just hope it's a decent match played at a good pace. Two teams getting up to speed for the season ahead. 👍

Sunderland have reportedly sold out their allocation of the south plus half the east. We've hardly got started going off the ticket map.

I set off at 8.45 to catch a train from Shipley to Leeds and then from Leeds to Blackpool.

The second one of the two was cancelled at short notice and the following one would have been an hour later.

So, here I am back home, not willing to spend an hour and a quarter on Leeds Station and not wishing to chance the return train to be cancelled. Bloody Northern Rail, Bah.

So that is one less in the crowd today.

Was same vs rangers a few years back … massive away crowd and home fans who can’t be arsed supporting their side .
It’s not always about not being arsed for example I go to all home games and quite a few away games and would have been there today but unfortunately I run a business and I have to work 8 till 6
I’m sure others will also have other commitments today too

It's a friendly, they're normally an awful watch. I also think on the back of the Euros, some (myself included) are enjoying a little break before the real stuff starts in a few weeks. No doubt many are on holiday also. If it's a decent game I'll watch it via TangerineTV midweek. I guess a lack of recent new signings may have had an impact.

I think most of our fans buy a season ticket and pretty much stop at that? That's not a criticism! Plus ...

It's on TTV. Many will take that cheaper option for a friendly.
It's a day/weekend away for the Mackems
We don't have a big new signing to go see. Juices aren't flowing.
It's likely to be similar to last season
Summer season is busy for many Pool fans
Money is tight

It's not about "can't be arsed" more likely that tickets cost £15/20 for a friendly at home. I've just spent over £525 on season tickets less than a month ago so the club can do one.

Pretty sure this friendly is more expensive than some cup games.

The club needs to learn to price appropriately, if the tickets were half the price they'd get more people in, more people in means more pints, pies and merch sold.

There's a whiff of protest in the air, over match ticket prices.

Every empty seat at every home game is revenue lost. What is the price point that maximes revenue? I'd say it's almost certainly under £30, and probably more like £25.

It's priced to get the most from away fans. Even at £10 I don't think you'd get that many more Pool fans, but you'd lose money from the aways.

tbh if you've bought a ST it should be free.

I'm not going, but I'm a ST and will be at Crawley (assuming they ever send tickets).

As above it should be free for ST holders and a fiver for others. Ridiculous to charge £15/£20.

I might watch later, assuming it's available.

At least you made an effort not like the fire stick fannies ,don’t forget if you claim on Northern delay repay chose the free travel pass as compensation you get a better deal .

As stated, if we had made a couple of decent signings in this last week there would have been a decent turnout, plus Sunderland aren’t exciting opposition, plus hang over from last season, plus ticket price = very low turnout. Must admit I’ll be cutting my grass!

Looking at the team sheet we are seriously lacking in depth. Nowhere near enough to be and stay competitive through a season. Got to hope there will be 3-4 quality additions.

We've actually got a fair bit on the bench. But everyone knows that more players will arrive. Other clubs are in the same boat.

I must say I'm pleasantly surprised at the overall look of the squad at the moment, injuries aside, that's probably our strongest starting 11 at the moment and the side he'll choose for the first game of the season, unless there are to be other new arrivals.
Fair bit of youth on the bench who you wouldn't think will be making match day squads. A bit of variety up front with Beesley and Joseph to come on, Where's Kouassi? Is he still injured?

We do however look short in the centre of defence, certainly one area we could do with looking at.
