Blackpool's Best Ever Signing

I get where the OP is coming from so fair enough with the choices. I do think though, that the span can be too wide. For example, Stan Matthews never left a legacy that has lasted to this day. Should he have had to? No. Would we have been promoted in 2007 without Joe Hart in goal for those last six league games? Maybe not. The same might be said about our promotion from the Championship without Seamus Coleman. Would Blackpool have been relegated from Div 1 much earlier without Alan Ball? In other words, what makes someone the best ever signing? I don't think I'm able to answer that question.

What about the golden oldies RAy Charnley.for one.
Blackpool's 3rd top goal scorer of all time & cost £750 from Morecambe (wiki). I think he does go under the radar somewhat & before my time. My feelings have generally been that after the halcyon days of the 40's & 50's the 60's (even though we provided a WC winner & maybe even had two if Jimmy had not got injured) was a decade whereby the club were in decline. Maybe that's why Charnley gets overlooked?
The stats would suggest he brought far more to the club than say David Vaughan, but that era is looked apon as over achieving.
Just my thoughts, could be bollocks.

For me...and I came late to the Blackpool FC party.....Brett Ormerod (second time) who was on a free from a dejected PNE
He was a player, who along with Vaughan & Crainey were a major reason why we did so well on the best trip......

Alan Ball wasn't bad. His legacy was tarnished for those of us with a certain longevity by him coming back as player-manager. Without that, he'd be far better appreciated.
'Alan Ball wasn't bad' ...Bloody hell Wiz , whilst his return in 1980 was a flop his performances in 1964/5 and 1965/6 will never be equalled or forgotten by those of us privileged to have seen them.

In my time supporting I would say GTF from Udders. I think we got him for £100k, what a great deal. I would also say Paul Simpson at the time he was signed.

I was underplaying it😉 hence my comments about his legacy being spoiled.

Posted that earlier Fezz. I do find any references to Pool in the 60's interesting & your postings are usually bob on & enlightening. It was an interesting decade, departure from the top flight after many years. Nearly return under Morty & pics posted of a busy Kop with a roof.
Ball & Hughes going on to greater things in merseyside.

Played for us in the top division, played for England at the age of 20, won a World Cup winners medal at 21, was later sold for a then record fee between English clubs. Surely it has to be Alan Ball. All the other suggestions pale into insignificance!
