Sage are concerned families playing Monopoly when we meet up with family could be a serious Covid hotspot
Much better to arrange a quiz !
Also we should meet elderly relatives in the garden where they could get hypothermia
They are also projecting a doubling of cases over the 5 days frivolities
What the hell are we doing so Boris can say he Saved Xmas ?
You couldn’t make this up

More fool anyone who continues to listen to these idiotic puritans.

Pin your subutteo onto a level position, don’t drag players, flick em, use your goalies long handle and turn your head away sneezing or coughing

They'll be no Monopoly in this house-it was set alight some years back with all those (verminous) London street names.

In the meantime I've bought a hotel on William Street and Big Vi the barmaid at the 'Stute has opened up her community chest.

As far as I’m aware it’s not compulsory 👍
Playing board games or meeting up with family at xmas? 🤣
Dont think i will be doing either .

Sensible thought is xmas should be pretty much cancelled.
If they are expecting a doubling of cases over a few days is it worth more people dying like xmas turkeys?

Communication has been poor.
Who do you listen to though?

Perhaps we should all listen to some people on an football msg board who think they 'know best'.
There are many voices on here to consider, But who do you take seriously?

Should we choose the guy with a condom for an avatar? 🧐
The one whose username was a catchphrase of the late Bobby Ball who recently died with the virus? 🤪

Are you our fountain of wisdom dear chosen one?
Are you the man to offer guidance to the world in the midst of a global pandemic?
Or are you just some bloke who is rather miffed that the pubs arent open? 🤣

Come on Blood it's bordering on the ridiculous

If it's perceived as ' dangerous ' to play a board game why the hell are they sanctioning it ?

Loving the replies by the way - just been chuckling over my morning brew 😆

Who to listen to? There are a few beacons of light out there. At the mo, I'm enjoying Lord Sumption and the Ivor Cummins podcasts.

Who to take seriously on here? Most posters couch their true opinions through fear of being labelled a granny killer. Too many placate eg. Rule-breakers are "obviously wankers but......". As a general rule, the poster being ganged up on is usually right (seasideone yesterday).

The answer is 'yes' to the rest of your Qs 👍🏻

Certainly some of the replies have brought a chuckle or two over my brew too.

Having said that the “board game“ advice whilst probably given with the best intentions does come across as over the top. What next “ don’t pull the cracker with the person next to you”.
The wisest advice would have been to just be careful and use common sense when you meet up be over Xmas or any other time.

Oh and as one of our gifts to our bubble family ,our cousin and his family, making a max of 6 of us ( though one of their boys may be stuck in Dundee where he is at University) ,will be coming to us on the 27th to enjoy our traditional post Xmas Turkey and Leek Pie is the board game AlphabeticZ (invented by a fellow Seasider ) which we hope ,as long as they bring it with them😳,to play ( for the first time😀) with surgical gloves and sanitisers to hand of course.

That will be our only contact over Xmas as I don’t expect to be at “Bloomers” on Boxing Day even as a ST Holder.

It came from the so called boffins this load of crap Whitty and his merry crowd.
At the start everyone thought listening to the scientists and experts was the right thing to do not now complete tools who constantly get it wrong with wide of the mark estimates, wrong figures and making up stuff on the way like this their no different from the politicians coming out with garbage.

"Nothing would be more fatal than for the Government of States to get in the hands of experts".

"Expert knowledge is limited knowledge, and the unlimited ignorance of the plain man who knows where it hurts is a safer guide than any rigorous direction of a specialized character".

It’s a bit daft really. I mean if you’re going to spend time at someone’s house as per the bubble rules for Xmas then Covid has had the chance to infect you within that time you spend indoors with that particular group - assuming you’re spending a couple of hours together. By that time, playing Monopoly together isn’t going to make a blind bit of difference.

“You have tested positive for coronavirus. Do not pass Go. Do not collect £200. Go straight to your house and self isolate for 14 days”

I think it’s time for a snap election. If they did a bit more exploration into this then maybe we could all go and visit loved ones without too much risk. It’s all right for Boris, ell be having a lovely time in Checkers whilst the rest of the population will go down like dominoes and end up in hospital so every other fecker will have their operation cancelled.

It makes the mind boggle. It’s a game of life and death.

Anyway, I had to get this off my chess as I think this is a bridge too far so I commit this to the board.

How you supposed to eat your dinner we ain't all got the Queens banqueting table your going to be sat next to Granny anyways just don't invite them they'll understand and I presume a lot won't be going around for a start.

Take a chance on your ex neighbour who can supply medical-grade vials for Covid-19 test kits to the NHS in return for millions...do not put to public tender, do not pass up the opportunity to help a mate, do collect a “get out of jail free card” as there nothing to see here. Apparently.

Communication from the government has been reasonably good actually, but then the media and various other parties, such as the OP of this thread, mess it up and sow confusion for whatever reason.

This "avoid board games", for example, seems to come from appendix A of a 15 page SPI-M paper, so someone has trawled through the output of a SAGE sub-group, found literally one line at the end of it and then blown it up into headline news, presumably with the intention of sowing further confusion and ridicule.

So who to listen to? I'd suggest check everything against primary sources, understand the agendas at play and draw your own conclusions.

TAM, I think it ridiculous that people take notice and can’t suss out that if they find that ridiculous as an example they don’t just ignore it and play their board game rather than waste energy and words

To be honest Andy it's not the SAGE guidance that gets me rather the ridiculousness of a situation that needs them to issue such guidance - it clearly isn't thought safe to meet up with your elderly relatives
A 5 day moratorium to ' save Xmas ' will they say double infection rates and is no doubt behind the tough tiering we and other areas will face and the further restrictions we'll continue to face in January as the impact of the relaxation of the rules hits home
Thousands of businesses will inevitably face ruin and gods knows how many people will die just to accommodate it
The question is why are we doing it ?
