Bowler and Rogers is all good and fine, but..

……pool need a ball-winner in midfield. With Stewart and Bridcutt serially injured, we’re going to have to buy one. Every Pool supporter between the ages of seven and eventually knows that Patino and Carey cannot play together. We are continually overrun in m/f. Josh and Morgan will just be another couple of players watching the opposition doing what they like on the halfway line.

Has Barlaser at Rotherham signed a contract yet ? Pretty sure we were linked in summer for him

There's always a but🤣🤣

Headline in Gerrrzet,
Blackpool buy MoSalah

Yeh BUT we obviously haven't got TAA or Robertson to cross the ball to him!!

Gerrrzet,
Blackpool welcome Kevin DeBruyne

Yeh BUT they'll be no one making runs for him.

Read all about it,
John Stones agrees Blackpool move

Yeh BUT Marv was always better with mad uncle Rick at his side!!

I've a feeling (or rather hope) that once Lyons can play we might see Connolly in Central midfield. I thought he was superb there last year. Adds defensive qualities allowing Patino / Carey a bit more freedom

Ah right, we've signed Bowler and Rogers so let's just ignore the glaring gaps we have in other positions. Definitely how it works.

It's the best realistic option we've got in the squad as it is. He's disruptive and got some aerial qualities too. He understands defensive play but has the ability to get forward. I've said before that there's something vaguely Keith Southern in him. He's hard as nails too.

Or we could fuck off defensive midfielders completely and just try to score at least 6 every week by overwhelming the opposition with mobile and skillful players swarming around Captain Gaz who will, with a series of pointing gestures, low fives and encouraging arse taps motivate us to glory whilst intimidating centre halves and officials alike.

Either way, things improve.

Surely Lyons in at right back frees up Connolly for the defensive midfield slot he should be in. One of the gaps we all know about.

Signings don't happen in priority order, they happen when they happen.

At least it's clear that money will be invested in this window, as I thought it would, and that we seem to be doing things early which is exactly right.

I remember barely 5 months ago some people on here were screaming take the cash for Bowler and let him go.

Now it’s looking like the same people are praying he’s going to be our saviour all of a sudden. 🤷‍♂️
tbf Jaffs, they were expecting the fee to be invested in the summer. It should have brought in at least 2 starters.

Yeah it's because most of our fans are ** idiots

"Cash in" were the words they used

It really wasn't rocket science to suggest we would struggle without Bowler

Exactly.
Shocking bit of business allowing our best player to go minutes before the window closed without replacements lined up.
Roll on 5 months and look where we are in the league.
Bullshit Ben has a lot to answer for.

Bowler, Rogers and an experienced center mid and I'd be very pleased, I always thought Bowler alone would keep us up with this squad. He was easily on track for 20+ goal involvements before he left, if he comes back in that same form I think we can do it (not go down).

Also Bowler is the next best thing to a new manager in terms of improving the atmosphere and maybe even the attendances. I know my Dad who lives in Yorkshire was going more often and raving about Bowler "worth the price of admission alone". He's Martin Bullock+ , he's a rich man's Paul Dalglish, let's go.

A rich man's Paul Dalglish!, Love it.

We have to take the cash we can’t afford to throw millions of pounds away, but doesn’t mean we would have him back in a heart beat having banked the readies

Whether or not we had a replacement lined up, it was the right decision to sell Bowler. A club in our position can’t afford to knock back that kind of money for a player who could otherwise run down his contract.

I don’t even get why the subject is even worthy of discussion tbh.

As for wanting him to come back on loan… likewise it’s a non-discussion .. obviously anyone with half a brain would welcome him back with open arms in our current circumstances.

You have a player who wants to leave, who could down tools or even get injured before walking away for nothing in the summer. It puts you in a tricky position where you have to make a decision that is in the best interests of the football club, without the benefit of hindsight.

I don't blame the club for making that decision, we're in a tough spot but it wasn't that long ago some of our fans we're saying Bowler wasn't good enough.

They really can't win.

Ah the classic, lazy AVFTT "Now it's the same people" trope.
Generally, when you actually look at it, you'll find the people who liked XYZ 6 months ago are the same people who like XYZ now, and vice versa. You lot just somehow get more satisfaction out of imagining everybody is a hypocrite.

How dare you try and use common sense as a reply.

No Connolly should be used as the utility player that he is, he certainly isn't the answer in centre mid
Yep spot on. Given our current predicament the CDM is absolutely key to our survival and to stop teams playing around our current midfield, this is where experience at this level is essential and where the money should be invested.

Half this board were ranting blaming Bowler when things weren’t going to plan on the field he was being used as a convenient scape goat.
Now all of a sudden everyone on here wants him back so you need to check who’s playing the hypocrite here.

I think that’s a bit of a porky Jaffa….

I certainly don’t recall ‘half the board’ blaming Bowler…

The overwhelming majority of posters and supporters were disappointed to see Bowmer leave and thought he was class, but also recognised that circumstances dictated that we had to accept the offer.

The owners decided to cash in on bowler, and many fans agreed - it was a gamble and it back fired. 2 mill or a relegation battle as I saw it.. and here we are

He was going to leave for nothing in the summer..Sell him for millions, then bring him back for the 2nd half of the season on loan (even if we are paying £500k+ in wages) It's good business

Their were a good few a know that granted i might be exaggerating a bit but we had an anti Bowler group on here and 20’s knows what I’am on about same people every week we’re having a go at Bowlers performance when results didn’t go our way and couldn’t wait to take the money and run.

It certainly wasn’t ‘half the board’…

We might have had a small number of people though.

Nobody is safe on AVFTT. Imagine if he does come back and takes a couple of games to settle back in (which would be completely understandable), some people would have a meltdown.

Imagine the horror if the Bowler we might get on loan has had the ambition trained out of him in Greece and only wants to lay the ball off and play little short passes 😳

We need full step over, home to the wife to tell her Josh who wants to show Forest that they were grade A mercenary bell ends to send him off to Greece

It wasn’t a gamble and it hasn’t backfired. It was good business and 100% the right decision.

and anyone who can't understand this .... well you are living in AVFTT world, not the real one.

I wonder how the dishes get washed?

Bollocks. Half were concentrating on his selfishness, and saying cash in, the other half were saying he’s the best thing since Wes but for the most part also happy to cash in assuming the money was reinvested. Not many wanted to see him go on a free and have a season forced to stay with us.

At the point he left, there was nobody saying he was shit and happy for him to leave. Perhaps a blinkered few who don’t really watch the games regularly. The caps lock brigade. Some thought he was replaceable though. Arguably, regardless of what happened next or happened now, nobody’s been proven wrong either way - we didn’t even try to replace him.

Now you’ve got half of people saying god yes bring him back ASAP, and half saying well he’s definitely an upgrade but he’s not the missing ingredient in midfield.

There’s a large amount of people that I disagree with on AVFTT, in fact I probably disagree with everybody about something or other, but it’s rare that people just talk absolute shit for no reason. Generally people have strong opinions and stick to them, barring change of circumstance and nuanced context.

Nothing personal, just annoys me how often that gets bandied around ‘the same people were saying X 6 months ago and now they’re saying Y’, and almost never with any backing. In philosophy you have the charity principle - if you don’t know either way and don’t have the time or energy to check, then give the benefit of the doubt. If you don’t want to give the benefit of the doubt, then find the time and energy to go back and check and show your proof.
