Bowler Set To Return

Kevlar helmet on, not sure bringing him back is such a good idea. firstly he's not played much football in the last 4 months might not be up to speed fitness wise, 5 or 6 games to get going. Secondly despite his trickery, his contributions (goals and assists) are (were) about the same, minute for minute, as CJ. He was such a head down player he rarely saw other players in space despite often taking three players out of the game. Thirdly he was a complete liability defensively he used to give the ball away so much in dangerous positions trying to do something clever, and cost us goals.

Unless he's learnt to do the simple stuff whilst in greece then I'm not sure he adds anything to the squad. If we had a decent head coach who could get him to be more effective as a team player then maybe, but we dont have a good head coach.
It would depend on which Bowler appeared. The one who beats a couple then cuts in & scores or the one who ran into one too many defenders having refused the chance to cross the ball & loses it. He was quite exciting when on form though. I for one doubt he’ll make a premier league player TBH.

The stats on CJ and Bowler from last season are there to be read.
stats never tell the true story player 1 beats 6 players makes a fantastic pass the receiving player 2 knocks the ball 2 yards to striker player 3 who then scores player 2 gets credited with assist player 3 gets credited with goal and player 1 gets nothing in the stats.
I rest my case

The reason why Bowler often lost the ball was because other teams could afford to put three men on him, in the knowledge that we had no other attacking threats. If he played in the same team as Poveda and Rogers, they couldn't triple up on him and he'd have much more space to play in - or else the other two wouldn't be marked properly. I think if we signed him and kept playing Poveda too, we'd see an even better and more effective version of Josh.

I can't help feeling all this about Bowler returning is bullshit Ben just keeping the peasants happy for a while, it will drag on until the last day of the transfer window and we'll be told we really tried but couldn't get the deal over the line.

Absolutely this. Add in the fact we have Patino who would then have 3 players in front with good movement and ball control and it would also improve him too. Especially if we get a new cm in or a fit Stewart or Bridcutt.

I certainly think the club need to get this out to the public as soon as the deals are sorted and not sit on them. It would give everyone a lift. They will be getting space for 2 loans too so 2 would have to go back. I just hope none of the clubs involved want to recall players we need to keep!! Corbeanu and Williams if Fiorini is going to be fit soon, if not Corbeanu and Fiorini. Let's hope Arsenal or Leeds have plans to recall!

Bowler was, in the end heavily marked in games, which obviously reduced his effectiveness.

Yes at times he gave it away but he also made things happen.

If we had say...Bowler, poveda and CJ on the pitch, that would scare opposition, as they can't double up on them all.

If he is heavily marked it should mean more space for Poveda or whatever.

He's also far better than CJ, but CJ can provide assists when on it on his best side.

Different players entirely.

Let’s hope Appleton plays him in his natural position, on the wing. He played him behind the striker in a few games before he left, which basically took him out the game.

That just about sums up your complete negativity. Anyone not blinded by their current hatred of the situation at BFC knows Bowler can only sign for us this season. It's been discussed countless times on countless threads but clearly in your desire to post nothing but relentless negative comments that fact has passed you by.
Pretty negative comment.

As it stands you'd let Fiorini, Corbeanu and even Williams go back. You'd hope to keep Poveda and Patino. But Bowler can't do it all on his own. We still need quality elsewhere.
Given his Prem & Champions League appearances, plus having a Championship loan at Swansea last season, I wouldn't be surprised if Williams is currently our most expensive loan.
In which case he should be a first team regular. But he's not.
As they say in Eastenders, " 'e ain't worf it"

If we can get an experienced CB in January, I'd send him back to Anfield.

It isn’t bullshit it’s been sorted for weeks

Don't need another one. The one we have got is shite.
I wouldn't say he's shite, he a target man and generally does that job quite well, and is extremely good defending set pieces, but I really don't think he fits in to our preferred formation(s). He'd be very useful from the bench if we're chasing a game and pumping high ball forward, which is often what we end up doing, but I think we need to be more mobile and less predictable up front.

i tend to agree that a vast majority if not 99% of blacpool fans would come down on the side of Bowler, i'm not sure i wouldn't do it myself. My comment isn't whether CJ is as good or not as bowler, its about their relative effectiveness as team players, which is clearly evident in attacking terms goals and assists in the stats of the two players.

Was Bowler an exciting player, yes, was bowler a very frustrating player yes again. In a team struggling to maintain possession a player who consistently gives the ball away in dangerous areas would not at this point be a particularly good acquisition, just my opinion which is obviously worthless
Easy to recall you were anti Bowler from way back, so now you've got to stick to your stance and that's by continuing to criticise him. CJ did one great thing yesterday with his pass to Lavery but there were enough times in that first half where it took that long to get the ball under control that their player was able to come in and take the ball off him. Generally his touch is awful.

i hope you're not trying to take my most stupid post of 2023 away from me

I would say a no brainer all round and more by luck than judgement on anyone's part. Just need Forest to stay up, us to stay up so we can buy him back for a nice profit!!
Yeh this will be a decent signing all round. He can’t help but improve us.

I’ve a sneaky feeling from the sounds coming out of the club we’re putting our money where our mouth is and they’ll be a few quality signings.

Remember they were offering big bucks to Drinkwater and another in the summer. Who didn’t want to get out of bed for what we were offering. With the pressure building on Mansford, Sadler and Appleton they’ll be going all out I expect to bag there men.

For what it’s worth I’m expecting an exciting month off the pitch. Let’s hope it translates on to it.

Unfortunately the word on the street is that Patino (I thought he played well today) could be recalled. The Gooners don't want him playing in a relegation team, allegedly. If Rogers and Bowler do sign Corbeanu is obviously surplus to requirements, Fiorini has just been a waste of a signing but we can't afford to let Williams go without a replacement. Don't know if Tharme is good enough back up if we recall him although I think he's injured currently.
Yes, he hasn't been in the Accy squad for the last three games!

Can’t wait to see him dribble down the right wing, cut inside and blast it in the top left corner of the net!

Bowler returning would be excellent if it happens and would give some breathing space for someone permanent to be signed for next season and beyond.

Lyons should allow Connolly to move into midfield as enforcer which is his best position.

A new CB partner for Marv would be good and a goal poacher would be ideal. Charlie Austin has just returned to Swindon I see and he would have been a decent squad booster.

I don’t think CJ is a match for Josh but his performances this season have been good and he deserves to start games imo.
