Bowler

All this talk about him going for X million.

Is there any sign of this happening? Not heard a peep. So I guess he will be back training with us.

Feels like every chance he could start for us when the new season starts.

Think clubs are reluctant to let players go until replacements arrive,I will be delighted though if Bowler is still here at the start of the season.

I posted the other week on another thread.

The three clubs linked with him last season we’re all promoted so priorities/players being chased suddenly change.

As good as Bowler was in certain games is he ready for the premier league yet?

I read last week Fulham are chasing someone (a foreigner) who sounds similar to Bowler for around £15-18m.

A foreigner who sounds like Bowler? Was it Bowleur or Bowlerski?

Very, very, very early days.

Outside of Cardiff, Bristol City and Swansea there’s been negligible movement so far.

I also think he'll leave before the window closes. But if not I'd like to think he'd sign a new deal where he can be one of the top earners, with a release clause inserted in the contract or a guarantee that he can leave if any club offers x amount for him. Good for Bowler earning more money for a year and helps the club retain his transfer value. Win win.

I wonder if JB will see what Appleton did with Brennan and fancy a bit of that for a year and then do the free agent move thing?

They wanted him in January and they've lost a loanee back to Watford. I'd suggest they are very much in the running.

Watford appear to be quoting about £2m for Zinckernagel, Forest seem to want to keep him, I think that transfer has a high chance of happening.

Forest were interested in January because Johnson was supposed to be going to the PL for £15m+, with Forest now there that move is off.

Forest never really got close to matching the valuation, it was Bournemouth who were close.

He needs to go soon or I fear his fee will be nowhere near what we hoped for and if he's determined to go then you can see £1m doing it come August.

Any news on renewed bids?

Personally think he wants to go and despite him being stellar we need him to go to improve the squad in general.

The Club will need to plan around all that. They cant stop everything just for this. If he wants to leave or refuses to sign a new contract, the Club will know the position and build in succession planning. This may already be happening. The Club should also have a "minimum they will accept" figure, and any offers below that, he wont be leaving in this transfer window.

I heard we accepted a bid from Forest, Josh turned them down because he wanted to go to Bournemouth but they didn't meet our asking price.

There's no indication he'll go anywhere.

"Bowler will be sold in the summer" has been repeated many many times on this board, but that doesn't make it the truth.

There were clubs that were interested in him as a (cheap) January signing to help sustain a promotion challenge is one thing, but those clubs mentioned are Fulham, Forest, and Bournemouth, and they're PL clubs now, and they're now in a different transfer market where the players are all 4x or 5x times the value of Bowler.

He's a fantastic player when he's in the right mindset provided with the right service. We should want him to stay until the end of his contract, and let's see how Appleton can motivate him (and hopefully let him beat players on the outside).

Either offer him a new contract or sell him now if he won’t.
You can't make him leave, he is calling the shots. Blackpool might accept an offer but Bowler might not like the personal terms or just not fancy club trying to buy him.
He has a consistently good season with us he puts himself in a great position next summer and there is nothing we can do about it.

There's nothing the club can do but wait it's not like selling a House put it on Rightmove for someone to come a long and buy,I expect Josh's agent to been selling the lad with clubs.

It may be a case of having to accept he is running his contract down and getting the most from him this year. If it guarantees another year in the championship then probably not a disaster financially, more a missed opportunity.
That said, see the Blackburn winger is being tracked again so maybe they will come in for him.

I've been thinking that, too. There seems to be more interest in a couple of other players.

I got the feeling Appleton thought a few of our players are shite from a couple of the interviews.

I think they’ll be a few players moving on, which is natural of course.

Wingers were key to Appletons Lincoln team, I’d expect CJ to shortly be shown the door, Keshi to be moved into the middle somehow and a couple of wingers to come in. Morgan Rodger’s on loan screams out.

Think Dale will fair poorly from the managerial change but is likely stuck with us for 12 months due to the length of contract and wages.

Ultimately not sure this changes Bowlers position though, as he is a bit of a unique case for us, arguably our best player but wanted to go in Jan and the club will want to make a profit on him. I think it suits everyone for him to leave this summer.

Unless he wants him to act as a free agent in a years time, more money for agent and player if he has a good season.

Who said he wanted to go?

Rumours before Critchley left said that Bournemouth still want him apparantly, they just won't cough up what we value him for right now. Who knows how much that is.

Forrest have just spent 17 million on a striker looks like they are shopping in Booths whilst Josh is more Aldi at the mo.

Hmm, not quite. I believe Josh did turn them down earlier in the window but on deadline day, Bournemouth met the asking price on a couple of occasions but the figure kept going up. Josh was meanwhile sat at the services between here and Bournemouth waiting to get the word to go and do his medical and was very unhappy with the outcome.

See below. Gary knows what he’s talking about.

Wasn’t Morgan Rogers at said service station also waiting for the deal to go through? I’m of a similar opinion as above, sell, replace and take the money- if we didn’t sell and an injury occurred he walks for free.

It’s up to Josh in the end, if he decides to be a bit stroppy because we didn’t let him go he may just play out his contract and walk away next summer. He would still be young enough, could take his pick of offers and demand higher wages because of no fee.

He needs to recreate his form from the second half of the season, his numbers were poor previous to that, and arguably not premier league worthy come the end. Undoubtedly an exciting talent but maybe another season/contract extension would do him some good.

The windows open and the queues for Josh's signature are noticeable for their absence.
I, for one, won't be too despondent. Appleton's a new broom so maybe he'll be settled with us.

He did have his best spell immediately after that though, so whatever happened seemed to spur him on to perform better than ever.

It’s not a terrible position for either club or player on balance. If we don’t get a decent offer financially speaking we keep hold of a talented player on wages which are probably below his true value (comparatively) which therefore likely works out bettter than a loan. We then have a player desperately trying to secure a move and big contract at a bigger club (which should result in good performances) and that bodes well and again is better than a loanee with no real need to impress if on a cushy contract at a big club elsewhere. Also Josh is below 24 and we’ll likely get a decent compensation fee should he reject a contract here and move elsewhere come seasons end. He may even do well, and fancy sticking around if the right deal can be reached and the club progresses in the next 12 months.
